I just did this service on our 2018 Chevy Equinox. Drain & check level plug seem to be in the same place. Just for kicks, I pulled the side plug out first to see how much fluid if any came out & WOW!!! There was a lot of fluid that drained out. Probably a quart. This was the first service from the factory so it was insanely over filled. Kinda makes me wonder a bit?!?!?

I heard, if I remember correctly, that if it was not hot enough, then something is closed in the trans which means that less oil can get up in her and therefore more comes out, as in you think it's overfilled. So now that some has drained out of yours, when it gets to operating temp you will be under level. Something like this anyway.

Forgot to mention the car needs to be running to get proper fluid level. Also you should drain and fill, drive a few miles and do it again…
@DominiAeternum
@DominiAeternum 2 года назад
Why would you do that first?! Of course it would do that since the fluid was cold was not cycling through the transmission & lines!! I bet if you drained it first you would have got the correct 3.5-4 quarts out.

How much Qt you added to your trans, you replaced the filter ???

@@aleaguilera2993 I believe it was 4 quarts. Please do your research.

Why add 4 quarts when you drain to specific order and add and drain again am I missing something 🤔
@fluxcapacitor05
@fluxcapacitor05 Месяц назад
You're not filling to any specified amount, because unlike the engine oil auto transmissions hold onto a lot of ATF that never gets totally drained. The 4.2 quarts is the recommended MIN specification (ie, lets you start the engine/transmission without too much risk of overfill, but will still rise to high heat because it's technically 'low' on fluid). You finish the job (aka, filling up the transmission) by opening the check plug (not the drain plug) and filling until it runs out. The transmission will only accept a certain volume of fluid at the specific temp of 185-203*F before it runs out of the port, indicating you have the correct amount designed for the transmission. tl;dr: The initial fill is only to get the transmission operable so that you can fill it to capacity.

There is no transmission filter in this vehicle?

You’d have to take the transmission apart to get to it. It’s basically not serviceable.

Здравствуйте. У меня chevrolet Cruze 2012 года. Коробка 6т40, греется до 115градусов! Это, норма? Или дополнительный радиатор ставить? Подскажите, пожалуйста. Спасибо.

Transmission fluid gets very hot. That’s more than acceptable.

My advise. Never change the oil just pull some add some always better. Pull 200 ml and 200 ml. Every month is better then once.

Not so true, I flushed my 2007 equinox twice! Had it since 15K, it now has 235k and tranny is still shifting smoothly.

You sort of left out one of the most important parts of this process: you're not supposed to open the check port unless the transmission is at a very specific temp, between 185 and 205 degrees F. ATF volume changes dramatically with temperature, so if you don't do this process you will overfill or underfill the transmission.

@@fluxcapacitor05 how do you find out the temp of the transmission
@fluxcapacitor05
@fluxcapacitor05 Месяц назад
@@uhhhu9563 The only way is using a live odb reader. They're like $700. But surf around, there might be a better way. I heard from somewhere that you can use an android phone and some odb app to read live data that is a lot less, but don't know anymore than that.
@fluxcapacitor05

@@uhhhu9563 I use XTool XT70 if it matters. But because of the price it will be a steep barrier for a lot of people. Honestly, it probably better to put the minimum 4.2qts in and snail crawl to a dealership.

THE FLUID CHANGE TEMPERATURE RANGE IS 185 F - 203 F FOR A PROPER FILL LEVEL
@AntWSF
@AntWSF 6 месяцев назад
How do you know when it’s at 185 f- 203 f ?
@2bnax
@2bnax 6 месяцев назад
I USE THE TEMPERATURE PROBE ON MY MULTIMETER (I CREDIT A RU-vidR WITH THIS METHOD) JUST EXTEND THE FLEXIBLE WIRE PROBE DOWN THE FILL-HOLE AFTER THE ENGINES BEEN RUNNING ( ENGINE OFF), CHECK FOR PROPER RANGE (MAY REQUIRE REPEATED ENGINE WARM-UPS). SOME PEOPLE CHECK THE TEMP. AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CASING HOWEVER, YOU'LL GET AN INACCURATE READING DURING IT THAT WAY BECAUSE THE "HOT FLUID"HEATS UP THE CASING- IT'S HOTTER. TOO HOT FLUID WILL RISE HIGHER (HEAT EXPANDS IT) & DRAIN FROM THE DRAIN PLUG WHEN THE FILL- LEVEL MAY STILL BE TOO LOW - RESULTING IN A LOWER "TOTAL VOLUME" NOTE: I'M NOT A MECHANIC ..JUST REASONING IT OUT.@@AntWSF
@fluxcapacitor05
@fluxcapacitor05 Месяц назад
@@AntWSF Must use a scan tool that reads live data. You're supposed to only open the check port/plug when the transmission fluid temp is between 185-203. They kinda left that important bit out.

and congratulations on braking your gearbox!! Fluid level in 6t40 gearbox needs to be checked ONLY when the fluid temperature is 85-95*c !!! Otherwise you will either under or overfill it!

@yodead369

Caution: Use Dexron VI transmission fluid only. Failure to use the proper fluid may result in transmission internal damage. Note: Ensure the transmission has enough fluid in it to start the vehicle safely without damaging the transmission. With the vehicle off and the transmission fluid temperature at approximately 20-25°C (68-77°F) there must be at least enough fluid to drain out of the fluid level hole. This will ensure that there is enough fluid in the sump to fill the components once the vehicle is started.
@yodead369
@yodead369 11 месяцев назад
You still need to check the transmission fluid while the motor is running and the fluid that is hot! transmission fluid expands! Do the same procedure at the appropriate temperatures once warmed up, all you doing (this video) you’re doing is filling up a drain when the engine is off and the transmission is not moving.

Ok so in this video you did show how to check trans fluid on a cruze. Had i not searched again i would have missed this video. Your team, as you are a team of people making money, need to be more complete in your posts. I searched how to check trans fluid on sonic and the cruze fluid maintenance video popped up but just skipped over trans fluid check. I found plenty of video posts by average people showing how to check trans fluid on both sonic and cruze. If you are posting videos on youtube to entice me and others to buy your product dont tease show the procedure you list in the description other wise you are wasting my valuable time in what amounts to me to be a commercial not a diy help. To be transparent i have purchased Haynes manual's for every car i have ever owned totaling 10 manual's and have always appreciated the fact you target diy folk's like me . Your new way of doing things is, in my humble laymen's opinion, not helpful. Feels like bate and switch. Wasting my time. Please if you are using RU-vid acknowledge and respect people like me search youtube for diy help not video's that are more about advertising your product than for the actual purpose of helping the diy person.
