I've had a few requests to show how to set privacy codes into the Midland GXT1000 two way radios. Menu navigation is a bit dated but once you see it done, its not too bad. Let me know down below if you use "privacy channels".

Yes, I use this exact model and a Gigantic Thank You !, and For this extremely well done video! I had purchased these back in 2021 and watched this same video to set them up. They " were" mainly used around the property here as my wife is a disabled service connected Air Force Veteran and if I'm out of the room ( I'm her caregiver as well) its much faster and more efficient than a cell phone. I had to re - buy them 2 weeks ago as our home burned down and we needed the same devices as we had before the fire. ( not a pity party) I got my wife out, first my throwing her over my shoulder and then went back into to get our dogs. The greatest takeaway is preservation of lives, mainly hers and the two dogs. It ( the fire) happened at 12:45 am on 31 July. We were asleep at the time. We woke to a raging fire in the back part of the house, spread quickly to the attic. At that point is when we woke to 3 small explosions and the rear French doors' glass breaking. Initially I thought someone was breaking only to be horrified of the ceiling beginning to fall in. Firemen and women here in Chandler, Arizona did a fantastic job of containing the fire and prevented it from going unto our neighbors property. Love your channel ! Excellent, informative and very interesting. Big Time Regards from Arizona !

Good video and explanation. I find the use of "privacy" codes frustrating. I hear people talk and they never respond due to the use of these codes. There is a possibility that occasionally they are out of range but not when the signal strength is high. One of the advantages of these radios is being able to communicate if you need help, privacy codes negate that useful advantage. As far as the channels above 22, they are just the same channels as the first 22 with codes "baked in".

We have a pair of rechargeable Midland x-talker walkie talkies. We use them to communicate with my mom who lives right behind us. that way if there is an emergency she doesn't have to dial the phone she just picks up the walkie. Sometimes we can hear people on the channel, not exactly hearing what they say, but we would like to choose a channel that is less used. Do you have any idea what would be the least used channels on a walkie-talkie? She has the exact same set of 2 walkies.

On my Cobra walkie talkies , when privacy codes are set on the Cobra radios, someone not using a privacy code still cannot hear someone using a privacy code. Are you sure on the midlands someone not using a privacy code will still hear someone using a privacy code? I will need to test them I guess, but be sure to test at some distance, if in the same room, yes I can imagine that they would hear. Anyway, thanks for the video, I will test that for sure, I hope they would not hear anyway.

The radios will limit the power to the FRS channels. So less range potentially. But technically to use the "higher" power GMRS channels you need a license. Also terran can have some effect if hills or mountains obstruct line of sight. This is probably why CBs are still popular on road travels.

Which channel/ code channels is best for long distance. Do the radios need to be set up close to each other, or say can someone 10 miles away set the same channels on their radio and they should connect? We have the midland GXT, I have the 1000 and my friend has 1050. They are supposed to have 36 mile range, obvious perfect conditions. We tried the same regular channel, without any privacy channels and they did not work. The instructions say be on a GMRS only channel. Do you know what those channels are?

ROTFL . The Cobras can stay on scan , for up to 3.5 days , without being charged , the MIDLANDS , while out fishing with a friend, you're lucky to get 7 hours of use even just being on the same channel with your fishing friend.. There also Is a way to boof the MIDLANDS , but I probably shouldn't go into it on here ..
