I keep mine behind my pistol. After 4.5 years in LE, I used my baton for the first time the other day when a dog ran out at us and I think the baton scared it away more than anything else. It was the first time I legitimately pulled it out

As armed security, we rarely use it, there arguments that batons arent a great options for most things anyways, so input it on my vest, because it's basically only a telescoping back scratcher for me.

I think expandable / telescoping batons for security are great for utility use. Destroy windows, hit people who are not a lethal threat immediately, general pushing, hitting things, reaching things, animal problems, and anything else a gun won’t help or OC won’t help or your bare hands are too at risk. Snapping turtle here got inside, deployed baton, dragged him back off the walk way and away from people. Couldn’t do that with anything else, without serious risk.

I have my baton at 11 o'clock at a horizontal angle with the grip towards the buckle. I do unarmed security in Sweden so that's all ive got so i make sure i have full control over it. Been meaning to swap over to a straight stick baton for a while now. Since its our only self defence tool i'd prefer one that actually works when shit really hits the fan seeing as we are alone for the most part.

Always carried my baton crossdraw on the front of my belt. Never used it in anger (except to pick up and move things that I absolutely did not want to touch even with gloved hands) but that always seemed like the "least worst" place for it.

I’m going with a stiff, slim, durable holster. Just something to hold it in place, slim so it takes up as minimal space as possible; and it’s just there as a utility item and backup to my hard hands skills. Also a decent window breaker in a pinch; good to poke things or people with.

Long story short - wear your equipment where you feel most comfortable and, are able to be able to reach for quickly without thinking about it. Practice drawing it out of your holsters from many angles and see what you like best

Back in ancient times when I was in a state police academy. Baton goes on the weak hand side thus saving your strong had free for your revolver remember I an older than dirt or pistol now called a sidearm. Flashlight goes behind the baton. Oh yah we either had wooden or plastic batons times change in 40 years. Riot batons were 36 inches with a 1 inch steel ball on each end used to split ribs. Hurts don't. Ha ha laugh at us old guys we was stupid but we got the job done. By the way do it to them before they do it to us God be with you young man. Have a great day and a better tomorrow

I too am an older cop from the dark ages and when I saw you mention the steel balls on the end of the 36" baton reminded me of mine, plus my duty baton by Monadnock Lifetime Products had the ball on one end as well. I also wore my duty baton on the weak side in a ring and usually had my hand on it ready to draw with weak hand for a punch to chest etc. then two handed. Mace "gun" weak side front for quick cross draw. Good ol' days eh!

It's really simple firearm on your strong side. Secondary weapons taser, bat, chemmies weak side. Also put at least one set of cuffs up front in case you're rolling. Good idea to carry at least one set of oversized cuffs. People are getting larger.

I had my baton and extra mags on HSGI pouches on my plate carrier and my boss told me to put it on my belt and when I asked him why he said, "Because someone can reach for it and also LEOs keep it in their belts." 😑 As if putting it on my belt somehow makes it unreachable... My ASP scabbard is so tight I cannot pull it out with 1 hand. I cross draw it because I need to hold the scabbard as I draw it. I do have a sidebreaker but it's still pretty tight. I train in martial arts. I am not absent minded enough to draw it out and hit someone next to me. Also ASP trains to extend it upward or downward only and not sideways.

So for me the cross draw got it done every time because I could deploy with either hand. So if you’re fighting and get your arm injured or pinned, it remains an option. I want to keep every option on the table for as long as possible. It’s the same reason I had my cuffs up front. If I’m jamming some guy into a wall or the ground, either hand can get the cuff and I can block, parry, grab and strike. If I reach toward my back, I increase my response time. All bad. Once again though in the real world, not every trade off can be optimal. Different bodies, equipment, belts and ponies conspire against that.

Opposite the gun is the way to go, but not crossdraw IMO. Best to access with the off-hand. I try to keep lethal force on strong side and less lethal on weak side and use that respective hand to work that equipment. You can always transfer the baton to strong hand after the draw if you need to really deliver a beat down. This belt placement also balances the weight of the gun better, being opposite from the gun. Best baton IMO is the RCB Peacekeeper, best holder is the 951 Tactical RCB holder. ASP is flimsy junk by comparison to RCB, and any of the 'no-name' ones sold by Galls and stuff are even worse.

So I've carried both in the ASP style (gun side) and the Monadnock style (weak hand crossdraw), and both work. Behind the pistol as far back as you do, is a problem though, as drawing is a problem if you do use it. To each their own, though.

I keep mine in front of the pistol and have it upside down in the holster (it opens up). So when I draw it I can simply go up where it opens as the arm stops and goes for the swing. i do hospital security, unarmed, just baton, oc, and cuffs, as opposed to law enforcement, we actually use our batons quite a bit. its been a minute since anyone i work with has used it to strike anyone however, working in East Portland you’ll get a lot of people who try pulling knives or other sorts of weapons like that, the audible and visual of a 21 inch asp baton opening seems to intimidate them enough for them to just back off, oc has proven to work in a different way. we use pepper gel due to several incidents where spray was deployed and got back spray on the officer or other observing parties, however most people dont seem as deterred when you pull your oc from your pouch so most of the time when dealing with an aggressive person with a rock or knife, youll end up spraying them simply due to a baton being more audible and visual than a can of oc. i personally carry my baton for a right hand cross draw, my oc goes on my vest almost in the middle but a little to the left. cuffs, one pair on the right side if my back and one pair on the left of my vest, almost where my belly is and the rest of my belt is for a glove pouch, flashlight, keys, some anti, stab and slash gloves on a strap etc.

I have the ability to use any holster that is level two (2) or three (3) for Glock 17. I am right handed & inside 95% of my shift.

This may be a dumb question, but would you be able to put the baton on your shoulder and cross draw that way?

I carry mine in my duty bag.. my policy states if we take a taser we don't have to carry one on us and vice versa. I use to carry it where you do however when I first started. My belt is as limited as it can be per policy. 24 with a 44 year old back😂

I carried a PR 24 on my left side with rotating holder when I was a Security Officer

Used to use a mononock rotary holder and yes while walking I would hear a clank sound of baton hitting sidewalk. Finally bought a PR-24 baton and it on none dominate hand. Yes, I get lots of T.J. Hooker & L.A.P.D. comments.

Hy. What is the baton model and manufacturer? Thanks

For my firearm I'm left handed, so my taser is crosdraw and my baton is behind my taser so It doesn't prevent me from accessing my baton.

I see one problem of behind your gun. Some behind you grabbing it and wacking you from behind with it. Having it on your leg where you hand touchs give you an advantage of having it handy but not showing you are going for your gun with your elbow bent. It can surprise the hell out of someone and make then back off quicker because they are not expecting it.

I’ve always kept it behind my gun. And now that I’m retired and working security I just keep it on the right side because I’m unarmed.

I had a baton taken from my belt at a night club , I retrieved it by letting the oc fly , but is there a level 2 type holster for baton or are there only open top. It’s never my go to but it’s best for breaking up brawls in the night club

If you happen to find level 2 type baton holster could you post a link? Also just curious for your night club security detail what else do you carry besides the ASP?

All I know of are ones that utilize a snap cover, similar to the old style of magazine holsters. Here is an example www.asp-usa.com/collections/baton-cases/products/new-cover-t-scabbard-60cm

I have a level 2 baton holster, I don't remember it's name. I think it's an ESP something with a 55, it has a safety that you push down.
