I have always been fascinated by mechanical timepieces - not just clocks but watches too. This is a great advice on how to set up a French Mantle Clock.
And if it doesn't tic evenly then what? I think if your going to make a video on how to set up a French mantle you should also show how to put it in beat.
From the front, gently lift one corner of the case ~1 - 2 mm unt until tic is even. Set it down and rotate the works in the case the same amount. Confirm the even beat.
...and that suspension is VERY DELICATE. It's a ribbon of shim steel between brass ends, and is easy (for me, at least) to kink. Also, since the works are just clamped to the circular opening in the case, it can be put in beat by s-l-i-g-h-t-l-y rotating the works in the case.
I have got a black marble japy freres mantle clock and the movement is working fine but it doesn’t have a gong , I don’t know much about the topic so if you have got some time to get in touch with me and then I’ll show you the clock and I would really appreciate some advice from someone who is knowledgeable about the subject, thanks Tom
