My mom told me if I could do research and help pay I can get a chameleon! I’m researching a ton, dont worry. We will probably get one in like a year or a couple months, but this video helped!thanks!!!
ive been planning on getting a Veiled Chameleon for a while now. Im getting mine in 2 days, currently reviewing what I know and finishing up the cage. He is about 3-4 weeks i think I cant wait Wish me luck!
KbugzS I hope you’ve gotten him by now! I’m getting another piebald soon which will be my 3rd. Keeping them separate will be a lot of work but honestly chameleons are worth all the work
I'm assuming you already got it but if u haven't I'd highly recommend getting it from a experienced breeder they will be in good health and age 9 times out of 10 if u get a cham for a store they will give it to u way too young and too skinny or just not healthy
In a dark room would the light from a TV stress the chameleon? . I am wanting to get one for first time but want to make sure i do everything right you know. You are very beautiful by the way and so is Bamba : )
This video was very informative. Definitely subscribing! How do I know what species of chameleon I have? I took over a chameleon from my sister. She wasn't taking care of it and had the chameleon in a glass tank with just a wooden purch and one small plastic plant.
I was wondering are Outside terrariums recommended ? more if you live in a tropical environment? That way it gets the light it needs and also having another Terrarium inside the house for raining days what are your thoughts to it? I'm quite interested in chameleons but wanna be very prepare (likely will get a little more time and keep searching info)
Steven Irrizarry Outdoor setups can be amazing if you live in an area that supplies to proper temps. If it gets too cold outside, it maybe best to bring the animal inside and use heating and uvb instead. If you live in a tropical climate, it can majorly benefit the chameleon to get that natural sunlight and uvb! You’ll still want to make sure to mist the animal down on dry days and keep it hydrated!
@@reptiliangarden Ho yes i like the idea and the best of all is that I can enlarge it's territory so it can have more space. Also since I live in a tropical island I think it will work very smoothly. Obviously I will have his own Terrarium inside the house for those raining days. But for now I will keep searching more information to be prepared on care and tips to give them a good life. And thanks for the reply :D
This answered a ton of questions I had. I fell in love with a veiled chameleon at local expo and my mom really like him too but I didn't have very much knowledge about them so I decide not to get him. I am doing a ton of research and maybe at ths next expo I can get one. I was wondering if you could keep them outside in good weather. I live in Louisiana which has super high humidity and for a large part of the year stays at 80° or higher. In the winter it will get to about 40° some days but I could bring it in then.
That should be okay during the day with supervision. You want to have a basking spot about 85°-95° and a cool spot 72°-80°. At night a temp drop is good but you don’t want anymore than below 40° preferably no lower than 45°. If you can roughly manage these conditions with either supervision or a very secure cage to prevent predators like birds, cats, coyotes anything like that from getting to them. When/if you do get a Cham I hope you enjoy them!
I had one for about 8 months and he passed away. I still don't understand why. I had him in a tall screen enclosure. I had a mister that misted a few times a day. He had vines and branches. He was warm. He also ate like a champ, he'd eat just about anything you gave him. I also made sure his food was dusted, he also had uvb. I really have no idea what I did wrong. I did so much research. I haven't been able to get another one since. :(
I use moss at the bottom, and I just got a chameleon he’s a baby and now I look at yours thinking “ damn that’s huge “ and we have the blue light sadly. I’ll change it or look into it
If you're talking about the blue heat lamp light chameleons do need a heat lamp and then a UV lamp as well so don't get rid of the heat lamp he needs both!!!
Moontail Animations. Update 6 months later. I’m building my chameleon his own enclosure he outgrew his, he got really big and I got him the proper uv light. Thanks for helping! ❤️
Nyomi Mae It could be. I would first of all recommend a long tube uvb, as they work much better. Also, make sure you get a tropical 5.0, anything more than that can cause irritation
Hi, I'm just here to say that I keep my veiled chameleon in a glass enclosure and it's been like 9 months and he's doing just fine, no shedding problems.... Just to say that you Can keep à veiled chameleon as long as it has ventilation at the top and bottom
thank you for giving proper help, i’m experienced in leapord geckos and bearded dragons and i’m rescuing a neglected chameleon. i’m uneducated on it but you gave me some real help. everyone else just tells people not to unless their super experienced
You are the kindest in explaining stuff… people often assume oh all people jus tho rushing to get a chameleon. NO! I happened to come across a chameleon that needed rescued so here I am!
She is very wrong! You can totally keep a chameleon in a hybrid enclosure (where a least 2 sides are open screened in , top & a side. It's preferred in colder northern climates all the time. You do have to watch out for mold conditions. Proper heat, light, ventilation, and humidity conditions must, be met to achieve this.
hello! i just got a veiled chameleon. everything is telling me not to handle the chameleon too much because it stresses them out, but he comes to the side of his cage to stare at me and i try to mist and he’ll run onto my hand and sit there for hours. i cant tell if hes stressed or enjoys it 😣. i feel like a new parent LOOOLL someone give me tips plz
If he goes near your hand then it means he’s cool with it lol chill out he’s just vibing with you. Every chameleon is different and if yours keeps going to your hand then it means he likes it, consider yourself lucky as some chameleons can be nasty.
Nice video! An easier way to tie foliage up is with twist ties. Strip the plastic back to expose the thin wire, it goes through the screen with ease. You can cut them to the lengths you need. My fat fingers aren't good with fishing line lol
This is One of the Best channels on RU-vid information and everything good wise, keep the videos coming I can see this channel getting very big! Sending love from Brooklyn!
Hi, right now, I am having the problem in my enclosure that I have a bunch of good foliage in the bottom of the enclosure, but on the top there is nothing there. What do you recommend to really cover the whole cage?
I have a very important question 😅 I know you said that you could go with a bigger encloser for a small chameleon as long as you have enough foliage, but what if the baby falls? My friends sisters chameleon has all four of her legs broken because the previous owner had a big enclosure and it fell. Do you know how I would prevent that? Should I get smaller vines if possible or just enough foliage so the chameleon won't fall and hurt itself
Thank you for your time in making a very well informed video on this magnificent animal. I have that same type. He comes from a beauty named Jethro. Just received him a few days ago. Hes considered a Juvenile. And he Loves to eat. Im thinking I need to be giving him other slightly bigger insects with more goodness to them. I make sure that I handle him at least once a day to help him feel safe and relaxed in his new home.
Hi loved your video. Just curious where you purchased your cage from? I found one the same size from reptibreeze but I want to make sure I got one that’s a good quality.
I’m going to have to disagree with your statement about soil pests. Green aphids and other plant pests exists naturally in the wild. So I’m 90% sure they are part of a chameleons diet if they wanted to eat them lol I don’t see how they could be toxic. It seems like a natural food web
She didn't mean that the bug itself is what's harmful, it would be the fertilizer that's in the plants soil that the chameleon could potentially ingest while trying to get the bug that is harmful.
TiaraMarie Thats suggesting that the fertilizer she’s using for her plants is synthetic. Most soil nutes are organic, unless your growing hydroponically or something.
Wow there is so much involved with those beauties! They require so many things for their picky needs lol. That is a beautiful enclosure! And he is super gorgeous lol and was very active at this point XD
I put an aerator in the water bowl so i somtimes see him drinking that. But not that often he usualy just drinks off of the leaves. And if i got him a misting machine i would have nothing to do😂
I just converted a 36x40x18 inch entertainment center into a tertium an i am ready to introduce my new enclosure. She now resides in a 40-gallon enclosure. It has mostly live plants, active bio substrate, misting system, t6 5.0 UVB lamp and of course a heat lamp, My issue. WILL SHE BE ABLE TO FIND THE LIVE FOOD, I HAVE BEEN FEEDING SMALL DUBIA ROACHES AND MEAL WORMS IN A CUP AND SHE EATS WELL. WILL SHE BE ABLE TO FIND THE FOOD IN THIS NEW CONO PENTHOUSE?????
I love this video so much and have been binge watching them because I have a baby chameleon and want to give him the best care that I can. Please help me with these two questions because I have been researching and getting mixed answers: 1) I bought my chameleon a linear light, because I heard this was the best one.. but do I also need a basking light for him or is the linear light alone fine? 2) Do you believe that it is better to not include any flooring in the bottom of the cage because of respiratory issues?
1) yes a basking light is also required even if you have an uvb bulb, uvb give off minimal heat but it’s necessary for the chams to absorb calcium and help their bones grow to their potential size (: and then 2) soil substrate is optional, I just think as long as you have the time to clean it and make sure the soil isn’t moldy or just becoming really messy then it’s ok. I have a bio active enclosure with soil but I set aside a couple hours every week to maintain it. The respitory issues only come if the soil is too wet and soggy
I’m getting a chameleon this is what I’m getting Heat lamp UVB lamp (not the double dome) Leaves (probably pathos or however you spell or fake) Climbing stick Food bowl for if I give worms Misting once a while Screen cage Im getting And I’m probably forgetting some but I have pictures on my phone of everything I need
hi im going to get a vailed chamelon do you think that 18"x18"x24" size of enclosure but im working on a smaller budget like around 450 euro for the whole thing does anyone have reccomendations?
We were given a veiled chameleon (guy that gave us him said he was maybe 6 months old but he was really small and has doubled in size in the 4 months we've had him.) We noticed after a month or so that he doesn't drink from the dripper or drops on leaves. We would change the dripper daily and had it dripping on leaves and vines above a small glass fish tank. He would head straight pass the drip water and to the standing water he pooped in to drink. We still try to use the dripper, but he will still head straight past it and drink out of the 20 gallon fish tank we put in. (Added a filter, no there isn't fish in it)
Hi! I’m looking into getting a panther chameleon by spring time hopefully, I want to be as prepared as possible before I get one tho! But because I’m new to researching, I just found your channel and love your content!! Exactly how do you clean off the plants and how do you feed them so nothing is toxic to the chameleon? Also do you use a substrate?
I recommend getting some books and read through them for all of the info you need.... they do not need substrate unless you have a female and she will need a nesting box for egg laying they still lay eggs even if they haven't been bred
Is it true even tho you can give a veiled the nutrients And calcium it needs the head Will Curve just a small bit? Im asking because my veiled has a slightly curved head
I made one and colored one out of coloring book cut it out and taped it on my concrete outside my backyard lizards are interesting imagine world without them
It is so funny that everyone in america saying how hard it is to keep chameleons and in my country its btw in mid europe its one of the most common lizards
The only thing that's not true is the mister makes lots of moisture on our foliage in our huge terrarium for Veil. I also have a waterfall in there for him w/leaves in it.
This one was from curious creatures in Chicago. My panthers are from @framschams_chameleons on Instagram. You can use my discount code: reptiliangarden and save $25
I successfully keep panther chameleons in a glass exo terras with small computer fans to encourage air flow. Screen cages are fairly new and chams were kept in glass prior.... I also open the doors when I’m in the room to allow extra air exchange.
I just went to pet co and found a super shy chameleon I’m getting my cage Tuesday and if that chameleon is gone I’m gonna be so sad I don’t want anyone to get him and kill him because they bought crappy uvb lights and feed him potato chips 😭😭😭😭
