How to create a PPTP VPN server in Windows Server 2012.This video tutorial will show you how to install a VPN Server on Windows Server 2012. Written Tutorial: www.avoiderrors...
Small comment here, if you want to setup a VPN which allows clients to also have internet access then you need to select the "Virtual private network (VPN) access and NAT" option - see video around ~2:31.
Hi, we have one server in my office, and its loaded windows server 2012, and we are using 4G router for innternet connection, could you please explain how to configure the server for remote access, thank you
is it possible to not use a username and password that's already created in the server side or for EX: use the same user and pass from different computers because i want to provide a free VPN Service for my community clients and if it's possible to limit the duration of the connection time because i only want them to use it to connect to the TeamSpeak 3 server and bypass the ISP BLock rules ,thank you .
Thanks for such great tutorials. I am trying to configure Port Forwarding in my router(D-Link DWR-960 4G ROUTER) for my VPN but the port forwarding setting page has the following fields Local IP Address: Local Port Start: Local Port End Remote IP Address: Remote Port Start: Remote Port End: Could you please me with out.
Can this be done without Active Directory being installed? I have Server2012 r2, but I don't want to install/run active directory. I always get authentication errors like ... CoId={44527D5F-5B6A-40E0-8FA4-2EE9BB1BF139}: The user connected to port VPN3-49 has been disconnected because the authentication process did not complete within the required amount of time.
Hello, I got some questions maybe you can help me. I have a backend-server (rented dedicated server) and a rented VPS. They both are on completely different locations (even countries). I now want users to interact with my backend server through that VPS, and their IP adress should be sent aswell to the backend (so i guess VPN tunneling is best?) your help would be much appreciated.
Failed to apply IP Security on port VPN0-48 because of error: A certificate could not be found. Connections that use the L2TP protocol over IPSec require the installation of a machine certificate, also known as a computer certificate.. No calls will be accepted to this port. I have this error log when try to coonect to the server

Hi, I'm using separate VMs for Domain Controller and VPN server and so I used your guide to setup my VPN server but I cam across a message box saying that before I can use the server for remote access, my Domain Controller needs to perform the task first. What does this mean??
@8:45 you should not select connect even if no encryption, you should select the bottom option Maximum. Had someone follow this and now I'm fixing it because they are failing PCI compliance. In other words it's not secure. You should also create a Private LAN port on the server for shares and RDP access.
Thanks this was great. Running Windows 2012 sErver and Windows 8 Clients One user complained that when he connects to VPN he can't browse internet through web browser. Any ideas? I asked if he has any weird proxy internet settings, nothing. And another question: Is this secure? How hackable is such a solution?
This one didn't quite work for me. I had to go into NPS & configure the policies there to match the encryption options you'll see under the properties of the VPN connection on a client machine (I was using Windows 7 Pro for a client). I did MS-CHAPv2 just to get my first one running but of course wouldn't recommend that for good security.
Can you help me or give some instruction how to set up VPN using google compute engine/vm instances win server 2012? I really need it badly. sorry mate...
Can you tell me why it's no working on Windows Server 2012 (Virtual machine) on Azure? :( I can't connect to VPN net (to the server) - on the last thing... there is any diferecne? Maybe firewall or something?
Is this safe to use? "PPTP is (as of Oct 2012) considered cryptographically broken and its use is no longer recommended by Microsoft." en . wikipedia . org/wiki/Point-to-Point_Tunneling_Protocol
***** why don't you recommend using the DHCP server to allocate addresses to the VPN clients. Surely this is better, as you can see all your address allocations in one place, as a opposed to a separate pool in a separate place.
first sorry for my bad English second thanks for this video for me i'm trying to make vpn site to site in real not in lab environment for my case i have problem with address because my first site the vpn server is behind a Firewall ASA and the second is connect to adsl im using windows server 2012R2 to be more precise im confuse about WAN address of both site can u help me plz and thanks

Hi, I have windows server but i am not able to access the router. how do i set port forward. I need to connect a windows 7 machine to a windows server 2012. how do i do that. I have done all the parts you have shown in the video except the port forward.
hi, i have a question i have create thevpn server on my windows server 2012 server my server have real ip Dynamic IP but when i connect with my computer with vpn the the connection is made but i have internet limit acess
Ripon Rajshahi A true VPN requires VPN capable routers at both ends of the connection. Anything else is just a software based VPN and they are super SLOW.
Corey Bryant I just add Chrome as soon as I login the first time from USB. No more of that issue. I heard Opera can run as a standalone so I'm looking into that next.
Hi, I have made all the configurations on both sides and router. I can connect from cliente to host. The problem is when I try to access the files on server. I make \\servername and it just says it can't find the server, even if I make PING (by name or IP) for exemple, I get no answer. Any tips for it? Client: Windows XP Server: Windows Server 2012
Adjust your local host file on that workstation to reflect your local server name or IP. If no adjustment has been made on the Local host file on that machine then I usually have success via IP instead of Server name \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Thanks a lot for the tuturial.. very clear.. I couldn't get this to work however.. I get the following error: Error 800: The remote connection wasnot made because the attempted vpn tunnels failed. The vpn server might be unreachable if ... Any idea?
Ok.. Just figured it out... When I did the static ip pool selection.. I thought I was supposed to select which network card on the server would be used for VPN... changed this to DHCP and it is working!.. Thanks!
You use a tool like "noip" it will convert your router public ip to a public domain name, then from a remote site, you can connect VPN to that public domain name.
Good video. I have a question, in case I purchased a public IP from my ISP that I configure in my router, I will have to enter this public IP in my client computer when i will connect it to the VPN server ? As in the Port forwading option, I will put the local IP address of my server, it won't have any problem i will try the connection by using the public IP, isn't it ?
Don't need to put the public IP on client computer. Make sure ur server have the Public IP or Private IP mapped thru NAT which can be accessible worldwide and put server IP in port forwarding option. Now u can connect VPN thru Server's IP in which VPN server is configured.
Hi I get this in the server event log: "The user xx connected from x.x.x.x but failed an authentication attempt due to the following reason: The account does not have permission to dial in." I don't have active directory installed on the server, is there a way to enable this without AD? Thanks!
***** Ok, asked and got answer on Serverfault: "Use compmgmt.msc. Select System Tools > Local Users and Groups > Users. Right-click the account properties, and select the DialIn tab."
I have 2 networks. One of the network has server with a web based application on it. The people on that that network access the application locally 192.168. . . .How to make the other network access the network with the server on it with only one computer that have configurated vpn, not all of them. Can I use only one computer to connect to the network with the server and share the connection with all of the computers in the home network (without the server one)? Can you make it to to forward traffic properly inside your network avoiding configurating vpn on all computers
miguel my names is Cesar and I have been curious about learning and using windows server- what videos do you recommend me to start watching and learning more about this system. thankyou? once more thing, this VNP set up exactly what is it for?
Hello! First of all, great tutorial, exactly what I needed. But one question: How to enable encryption ? I assume that you used none since you selected "optional encryption" in the options menu.
The part of the video on the port forwarding is the critical bit for this. Make sure that is done and done correctly, otherwise the WAN side connection won't work. Also, you will need a static IP or a no-ip service set up so that the connection knows where to connect. If you have a dynamic ip, it will change every time your router restarts, which makes it impossible to know where to connect to. So look at no-ip services to resolve that.
@@ahmadammar2939 just saw your message. This was 4 years ago lol. At 5:11, it is the servers firewall, then after you do the servers firewall, it seems like you have to type in the IP address of your router, to make the changes he tells you to there. I might be too late on this you probably already got it
