In this video we show you how to properly set up and use your weight distribution hitch. The goal of using a weight distribution hitch is to keep the trailer and the vehicle it's attached to, as level as possible by distributing the tongue weight of the trailer across the vehicles frame. Make sure your weight distribution hitch is properly set up to ensure that you have a safe and efficient towing setup.

Finally a video that explains what the pin adjuster does and how to increase or decrease the transfer in combination with the chain. Thank you. now i can adjust my new trailer correctly after getting it loaded down at home.

Hello, After watching the setup video I noticed a common mistake that should be addressed so others will not repeat it. When he slips the chain onto the lift chain attachment hook @ 4:48 he lets the extra link stay between the actual link he's intending to use and the hook, That's a big no no when using a chain in any circumstance. Just thought I'd let ya know, Thanks :)

Dude awesome video, I had absolutely no clue how to use this weight distribution hitch. And now I'm pretty sure I could write a book on it. Thanks, man!

"Also make sure to stay away from the pivot zone of the spring bars for your safety at 4:30". Best piece of advice I've seen for years and sad to say I haven't been following it. I will be now. I have a different weight distribution hitch (husky) but your info was very helpful.

After several weeks of deciding which hitch ball to buy, i.e., weigh-safe, I come across this. I have a 6x10 foot aluminum utility trailer, so my needs are not intended to be significant, but this device is a no-brainer.

Great video. I inherited a competitors model. But your info here was thorough and concise! It also answered a question I've been researching. Why do I see so many of the hitch balls tilted aft a few degrees? The ball is installed initially perpendicular, but then adjusted back a few degrees to enable it having the 5 link minimum in the chains. Thanks for the help.

Great work on the video guys! Very informative and well written and shot. I do this for a living so I don't say that lightly. Unfortunately I got another guys distro hitch when I got my camper but I was sure to get your products with my new tow rig. Whoever did your video work did a great job! If they ever go out of business give me a call:)

Hey "jiggajaw" helper springs are designed to help hence the name "helper". Weight distribution balances the load between all eight tires for better braking and handling. Helper spring can't do that, they just make the truck taller under load. Using weight distribution keeps your headlights from shining the clouds. It also allows for higher weight capacities on both truck and trailer cause you're using all of your suspension not just the rear axle of truck.

A weight distribution hitch provides improved vehicle and trailer stability by leveling the trailer and more evenly distributing the weight. When you tow what you love, you have to do it right. Tow safely!

Okay, what if the truck/trailer setup isn't perfectly level? For example, the vehicle front is a little higher or lower than the rear. I find this occurring as the trailer load changes (more or less water, junk added or removed, etc) as we're traveling. At what point am I pushing it too far and should readjust the hitch?

So with this system there are no holes drilled into the frame on the trailer for the bracket? The one bolt holds the bracket securely enough? Nice video and thanks.
@curtmfg
@curtmfg 8 лет назад
+priushater Yes. With this specific WD system that trailer frame brackets do not require drilling. The bolt on application is secure. The product shown in this video is a CURT Trunion Bar Weight Distribution Hitch. Another great WD product is the CURT TruTrack WD Hitch with Integrated sway control. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3Fd16VARabA.html

Great Video. I have a 1/2 ton 2014 toyota tundra and am towing a Big Tex Trailer with a GVWR of 10,000 lbs. There is currently significant sag when the trailer is fully loaded. Will the CURT 17007 address the issue? Do you think that additional products are needed such as "add a leaf" or airbags to address the SAG? Thanks in advance!
@curtmfg
@curtmfg 9 лет назад
Robert Fausto Great question! Mr. Fausto, our 17007 was built to specifically address that kind of situation. Being that the 17007 can handle up to 14,000 GTW, the sag would immediately be eliminated. Be sure that your trucks trailer hitch can handle that trailer weight. We offer a extremely tough Class 5 hitch upgrade for the 2014 Tundra with the TRD Sport Package. The hitch is built to handle 16,000lbs. Leaf kits and airbags would not be necessary. We would recommend a CURT Sway Control. Trailer sway can be an safety issue with a trailer that size and the tow vehicle. I have linked to both hitches below. The 17063 is exactly the same as the 17007, but includes a Sway Control. Good luck and always tow safely! www.curtmfg.com/part/17063 www.curtmfg.com/part/15398

We recently purchased a Forest Rain Wolf Pup 16FQ travel trailer with a GVWR (w/Brakes) of 3954 lbs (2950 dry weight) and 454 dry weight tongue weight. We have a 2016 Honda Pilot (w/transmission cooler) that has a rating of 3500 lbs towing and tongue weight of 350 lbs. Now I realize I will not be able to tow the Max trailer weight and don't ever foresee any reason to travel with all the liquid tanks filled so we will always be somewhere in the vicinity of 3200 lbs towing. Now our concerns are with the tongue weight since the trailer is 454 and the tow car 350. The dealer who sold us the trailer installed a Curt Camping World Round Bar WD Hitch 1000 lbs. Tongue weight and assured us that we should not have any problems with the tongue weight concern. Understanding the importance of packing all items on the trailer evenly is important and also not going over the 3500 pounds of towing. Should we be overly concerned about the difference in the tongue weight? We towed the trailer over 150 miles with no issues and the Pilot maneuvered smoothly. Any thoughts?

+Ruben Hernandez Mr. Hernandez, you need to follow the weight distribution ratings for your vehicle provided by Honda. This will identify what your vehicle's tongue weight rating would be with the use of weight distribution kit. This is very important. Your Honda dealer should be able to provide you with this information or it may be listed in your owner's manual. In addition, you may want to look at upgrading your 2016 Honda Pilot with our #13146 hitch. www.curtmfg.com/part/13146 This hitch is rated for a 6000lbs capacity and 900lbs tongue weight, which is more than enough for your setup. Towing safely is your number one concern. If you still have questions, please feel free to contact us at 800.798.0813.

Generally speaking, tongue weight capacity goes UP when using a WDH because frankly, the wdh 'lowers' the effective tongue weight. Example...I have a curt hitch thats rated 350 tongue wt, or 500 with wdh. Good luck getting info from Honda, all they say is "we dont recommend a WDH BECAUSE if installed INCORRECTLY you can damage something. Theres a picture of a highlander with the unitbody frame twisted into a pretzel because someone went nuts overtightening the wdh

in the video you said that the more links (chain) between the bars and the brackets the less force is applied and vice versa. say you had a chevy 1500 (1/2 ton) and had say 4 links between the bracket and bar. Then you have a chevy 3500 (1 ton) and you use the same 4 links between bar and bracket. can this have an adverse effect on tounge weight and cause the trailer to fish tail (in the 3500 chevy situation)
@curtmfg
@curtmfg 8 лет назад
+Brandon C. You need to setup your WD system accordingly for any and every type of tow vehicle. This is not a 'set-it and forget-it' system. Different tow vehicles have different ride heights and wheel bases. Tow safely, every time you tow.

I have a 2012 Toyota Tacoma that has the tow package rated at 6000 lbs installed from the factory. I recently purchased a 2011 Forest River SP186 Surveyor travel trailer that has a dry weight of approximately 2600 lbs and a hitch weight of approximately 300 lbs. Included with the trailer was the Curt system similar to that in the video that is rated a 10,000 lbs. When I set it up using the description in the video it seems to ride pretty rough when the truck is level, when I add more links between the trunion bar and the adjustor the truck then sags noticeable in the rear. Can I adjust the ball height to account for this and produce a smoother ride for the trailer? Or should I replace the trunion bars with ones of a lighter rating? Thanks, hope I made sense.
@curtmfg
@curtmfg 7 лет назад
Hello Don. Great question. It sounds like you may need to adjust your ball height. With your trailer sitting level, the top of the ball should be one to two inches higher than the lip of the coupler. If you need more help, please call our tech support line - 800.798.0813. We have a staff of highly knowledgeable folks who are willing and able to help you with your set up if needed.

Question, if the truck is still slightly sagging, do I give it more links or less links on the chain?
@curtmfg
@curtmfg 9 лет назад
aPopeye2RZ HitMoB You would want to have less links in between the spring bar and snap up bracket. There needs to be a minimum of 5 links. If more tension is needed, tilt the head unit down a little more.
@noneya1539

Ok thanks, im still sagging. I guess I will have to raise the ball hight more. Because I am at 4links.
