This was such a great video. I’m shopping for a device for my 8 year old son primarily as a means of contact in an emergency or monitoring location during field trips, tutoring, etc. I love that the Apple Watch can grow with him versus a kid-marketed alternative. I think it’s so important to introduce them to technology and responsible use!

Great video. Glad to see all the safety features built in to the watch settings. Totally necessary these days. You have convinced me that purchasing one for my 9 year old for communication will be sufficiently safe without the worries of them gaining unfettered access to the Internet and all of its innocence-ruining content.

I really like your philosophy of introducing tech to kids in a gradual and age-appropriate way. Thank you for that. We just purchased my preschooler an Apple Watch, which I would’ve thought was a crazy idea even a couple years ago, but we want her to be able to send an SOS in case of emergency and just generally have an added layer of security when we’re out in public. Before we purchased the watch, I planned to use the Notify When Left Behind function to alert me if the watch was left somewhere, either by accident or if, God-forbid, an abductor removed the watch. However, I didn’t see that function available for the watch in the Find My settings. Any ideas?

As a parent whose kids are quickly approaching this maybe they'll get an apple watch age, I'd love to see a follow-up video about how your kids having cellular apple watches has or has not worked for your family. All the family setup videos were tested when it launched, and amid a pandemic. Now that the world is getting going again and it's been over a year, I'm curious how it's going?

Thank you for explaining this beneficial feature for a non phone option. Do you have any upgraded information as to how to use this feature? Also how do you call each other? Do they have their own phone number or is it under your phone shared line?

What happens when someone outside of their contacts calls or sends a message? Will we have a way of knowing this happened so we can evaluate whether or not to add that person as a contact? How to restrict outside contact knowing there are lot of scam call going on?

Once I restored the watch again and setup I was able to access and install apps on the family members watch.

Do you happen to know if the child can send a GROUP TEXT to the entire family from the watch? This is really impt because I am looking at getting all 3 of my kids a watch with a cellular plan.

Yes you can if all members are in their contacts.

When you set up a watch for a child with the friends and family member option does the watch get all the messages and call and pictures that the parent phone does at all times?

No, the kids watch does not get any of the parents messages, messages, or calls. They will get their own messages and calls from those they are allowed to communicate with.

@@christinewaters5068 I'll save you some time...YOU CANNOT! Which is why StateofTech's video is basically useless! :sadface: Other yostubers who did thorough reviews stating that Apple released an unfinished product didn't get as many favorable likes boosting the algorithm but they were right. It's absolutely frustrating. My child can only get an app, by using the App Store on the watch, which he must manually scribble his password. Want five apps, scribble password 5 times. It's ludicrous.

@@christinewaters5068 I think the only way that's possible whatsoever, is 1) you have setup an age limit restricting the apps 2) you have restricted the app altogether in your appleID>Family Sharing>Screen Time 3) you have restricted the App Store app in the watch app (on your phone when her watch is selected)

Kind of. They can send text and make calls over iCloud using iMessage and FaceTime Audio, but you need a data plan or that will only work over wifi.

I have a very simple question if you could help me Jerry if the address doesn't wanna have a smart watch like a Apple Watch but still want the kids to be connected to the iPhone and have maybe a cellular option or whatever do we have as adju you have a knife watch ourselves set up on the iPhone to have a family member I did or could we add a family number on the own even if you do not have an Apple Watch ourselves and my second question is when you get the child a cellular option do you have to get them like a number like a monthly yearly like contract can you add on top of your contract for them to have their own contact number that's all thank you very much and I absolutely love this video and your work here

Good video. You should note that there’s no reason to spend the extra $200 for a Series 6 if Family Sharing because the functions exclusive to it aren’t available when Family Sharing. Such as Blood Oxygen or Sleep. Neither are ECG, irregular heartbeats, high or low heart rate, etc. You might not care about those for a kid but Apple also advertised “watch only” for a parent or grandparent, where you would definitely like to have those functions. It’s extremely disappointing.

It took me a while so if u add them photos and go in the watch to photos on the bottom left corner you click on the one you want and it will at it to the screen
