UPDATE! We just released a video covering all of the gear and accessories that we consider ESSENTIAL to having a successful RV trip. We talk about a few of those items in this video, but there's a lot more on our list! Check it out here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f0MWmVdPfvo.html

Hey! Great video! Just a quick tip, I always set my parking brake, especially when towing the rv because eventually it will eat up your gears. All the weight is sitting on the gears when the truck rocks into place. So if you set your parking brake while in drive and foot on the brake and then shift into park, the weight of the truck/trailer will be on the parking brake and not your gears! Happy camping!
@Five2Go
@Five2Go 5 лет назад
That's interesting, I had never heard of that. I always use the parking brake when hooked up and stopped, but I've never engaged it while in drive. I normally put it in park and then stomp the parking brake down with my left foot before coming off the brake pedal. It may do the same thing?
@patricksmith2
@patricksmith2 5 лет назад
Yup! Same thing as long as the parking brake is engaged before taking foot off of the brake. I was just commenting because you mentioned that you kept trying to get the trailer in place and it was rocking after in park. Always a good idea to put the weight on the parking brake and in turn the truck will hold its place while unhooking. Happy Camping! @@Five2Go

Parking brake is the way to go. Note- it's not "sitting on the gears" on an automatic. Its resting on a pin in the transmission.

A very nice and informative video I enjoyed watching it... one thing I would like to clarify is a weight distribution hitch does not transfer the weight to the back of your trailer, that's actually a bad thing, a weight distribution actually applies Leverage to push more of the weight of the trailer onto the front wheels of your truck to distribute the weight more evenly across both axles of your truck.

Just found this video.. good job, but I was scanning the comments to see if anyone else caught this. I have had a trailer roll on my even with chocks on certain grounds. Its a great idea to NOT unhook the chains until everything is stable. Also, stand clear. The chains will catch and keep the camper from rolling too far on you. Just a good safety idea and something I always follow. One other little thing.. run your water before connecting your hose just to flush out the line.. your filter will do the job, buy why add in extra junk and maybe even a wasp... Nice job and enjoy the camping!! We have been glamping over 4 years and 2 trailers... love it! enjoy!

Lurching while parking is resolved by placing the truck in neutral, then engage the parking brake. Then shift into park. This takes the stress off the parking lever inside the transmission.

Good to see you've got a F350 for the proper payload capacity.
@Five2Go
@Five2Go 5 лет назад
We started with an F250 and it towed just fine as well. In fact, we still had that truck in this video. There are folks out there that tow these around with half tons, and while the numbers are technically ok with the right configuration, I just don't think they have the stopping power for an RV this heavy.

Is there anything you can't run in your trailer by going 50amp to 30amp hookup? Does it limit anything?
@Five2Go
@Five2Go 4 года назад
Yes. If you have two AC units you can't run both at the same time on 30. Depending on the cycle your AC is running in you may not be able to run your microwave at the same time, though that's kind of rare. We have a convection microwave oven in this rig and we can't run a high-temp convection cycle while the AC is running too. It really centers around the AC - those units eat up a lot of amps.

How do u set the regulator at 40 I'm sure it's not set on that from factory......do u hook it up to hose bib and just let the water flow out of it till u screw it down to 40 or do u cap it to regulate the pressure so the water isn't flowing out of regulator
@Five2Go
@Five2Go 2 года назад
The pressure will read low of the water is flowing. Hook the regulator up and cap the other end with something (a sprayer nozzle, a shut off valve, etc). When the spigot is on and the water can't go anywhere, that will show you the true water issue. Turn the screw to whatever pressure you'd like (40-50 is OK for most newer RVs) and that's all!

We lived in that RV for almost two years and towed it for about 20,000 miles and never had a leak anywhere. As long as you take care of the slides and make sure the seals stay clean, don't get damaged, and flip properly you should be good. They're definitely a thing that can fail though, so if you're looking at used RVs you definitely want to pay special attention to the slides and how they're operating.

I'm just curious why you have a gap at the top of the receiver when your weight distribution hitch is still attached. That tells me it's not doing anything at all. The gap should be at the bottom of the receiver as there is tremendous upwards force when a WD hitch is used.
@Five2Go
@Five2Go 5 лет назад
That's not physically possible. Even with weight being "shifted" by the hitch, there's still a net positive load on the receiver and truck. The only time there is a gap at the bottom of the tube is when there is a negative load on the truck, which obviously can't be achieved with any amount of weight back there at all. That only happens when moving the load from the truck to the tongue jack.

Cool hose priming tip! We just went from a Travel Trailer to a 5th wheel but still got a good tip from your setup. Can I suggest placing your wood blocks long ways front to back at the tongue jack. This will provide better stabilization. In the event your trailer had any front to back motion the blocks could easily tip forward or back and the jack would land on the ground when you have the blocks side to side like in the video. Enjoy your time on the road with your family!
@Five2Go
@Five2Go 5 лет назад
We actually picked up some larger square blocks recently and have been using those. I've thought about those other blocks going front to back too, but with the chunky rubber blocks and the x-chocks, there's zero chance of this thing moving forward. Great tip though, thank you!

Thank you for remembering the wheel chocks! We only use the X chocks. We also have the same husky hitch. Thank you for showing me some points to notice to removing the sway bars. Love your pup! Our Rottweiler is city-fied too. Enjoyed the video!

I remember watching this video before we got our travel trailer but now that we own one, I'm watching everyone's set-up and dump hook ups. Comparing what products you use and how you use them. Thank you for your video!! It is great helpful tips!! Yes, chock before you unhook is a really good idea! 😊 Question, when using your Lynx leveling blocks I see you only had them on ONE side. Is that normal? Do you only put them on ONE side? I guess with the levelmate pro you go by. The set of blocks comes in a set of 10. Do you only have 10 or do you get 2 packs? Our stabilizers are manual as well as our tongue Jack. We have sway bars which were given to us with our purchase of the t.t. I know you sold this camper and are looking for a class A but if you could reply that would be appreciated 😀
@Five2Go
@Five2Go 4 года назад
You only need to raise one side to be the level of the other side. If you put blocks under both sides it kind of defeats the purpose! 👍😁👍 We did have two packs though because we used them under the stabilizers too so they wouldn't sink into the ground.

I’ll echo the great informative content especially for newbie RVers! Never thought to prime the water hose! Great tip! My wife has a checklist for everything just so we don’t forget anything. About wheel chocks, I learned the importance last summer. I backed up our GD Imagine TT into our seasonal spot alongside our 10’ x 30’ wooden deck. I had a heck of a time getting it close to the deck but did finally after a couple of hours! When I went to put down our manual stabilizing jacks between the the deck & the trailer, I had to go under the trailer. My nephew turned the wrench from 6 o’clock to noon & I turned from noon to 6 o’clock. And yes I forgot the chocks! After a couple of turns, the trailer rolled backwards. Pinning me under the hitch I beam. Resting on my right arm across my chest. I thought I was going to be crushed! Luckily there was a lot of campers around who came to my rescue. The longest 2 minutes of my life! I ended up with 5 stitches on my wrist where the I beam pressed my metal watch into my wrist. I went to the hospital as a trauma alert & walked out 5 hours later after all the testing to make sure my heart & internal organs were ok. And a big lecture from the ER doctor, Lol I’ve learned my lesson for sure & realized how very lucky I was! Thanks again for all you do making your videos and look forward to seeing more of your videos!

Oh no! That sounds awful! With as heavy as these things are, safety is key. The last thing anyone needs is one of these rolling around without permission!

These folks are so friendly and not preachy - just showing what works from them. I could sit down with a cup of coffee and just enjoy learning from them. So this RU-vid is sort of like that. Thanks!

Nice video.on your hitch you might want to put some grease on your ball an sway bars.it will make it easier to backup.an truning.the app is cool.for a quick way to check your trailer is to put Level on the front an side.on driver side. For your water hose get an extension cord. Most of them are orange.the way I did it I left. Enough hose out to hook up the faucet.then just roll the hose up on the extension cord spool.

My 8 year old daughter came across your channel while searching for camping hack videos. I'm now binge watching all your vlogs. Love them! What fun experiences you are showing your kids! Just one question I haven't yet been able to figure out...what happened to Pixel? Did she decide to stay back with friends or family instead of making the road trip?
@Five2Go
@Five2Go 6 лет назад
Pixel stayed home with my mom. She doesn't travel well and barks at everything, plus mom lost her dog last year, so it was a good fit.

Great video guys. Been following for a while now on IG! Great practical info. About to buy a 5er so disconnect will be different but all the hook up stuff is awesome. 👍👍
@Five2Go
@Five2Go 6 лет назад
Yeah, 5ers are a bit faster with the disconnection. We saw a guy in Austin hook up incorrectly though and as he rolled through the campground the rv slid backward off the hitch and destroyed his truck bed and tailgate. Scary stuff!

100% And when it breaks or wears out I'm buying another one to replace it. It's seriously the best hose ever. 😂

We are newbies who are awaiting the arrival of our rig, Lord willing, next month. I love your videos which are so informative for those of us who have never had a rig of our own before. We will be camping close to home in PA to get "the hang of things" before heading to FL for the winter. Your Wintering in FL video was awesome too. There are things that you don't think about that you talk mention and explain. It's just awesome. Thank you so much! Stay safe and continue to send us information to help us "down the road" Blessings to you and your family!

Congrats on getting your new rig soon! It seems like there's a ton to know and do, but once you've done everything once or twice you'll see how easy it really is. Just take your time and don't be afraid to ask for help online or in campgrounds. 👍👍
