this is the video tutorial on changing the CMOS battery that worked for me: • Como Trocar a Bateria ... (it’s not in English but you don’t really need to understand what he’s saying)
i used the guitar pick to pry the two frontal clips open (the ones on either side of the faceplate).
another thing you might want to do while you’re inside is remove any lint and dust that may be trapped between the filter of the heatsink (that’s the big copper L) and the fan. just undo the five screws and gently pull it up by its copper neck, then peek where the filter was. this laptop is prone to accumulate a lot of debris in that area, stopping the airflow and causing overheating. it’s also a good idea to use some canned air to clean the filter of any further residue.

Well done...just to add, the AHCI mode for the SSD is actually recommended - and will work fine - if you have a more recent version of Windows installed - Windows 10 works. But note that if the machine used ATA with the old disk, and you change the setting to AHCI when replacing with an SSD, then Windows won't restart, so you should back up all your important data and reinstall Windows 10 after the change. My laptop has Windows 10 32 bit installed and it runs smooth with the 240GB SSD I installed, using AHCI mode.

Thanks for the video, both the advice on the SSD connection and BIOS setting solved my problems during the upgrade of the same laptop.

That is a really useful tutorial, just what I was looking for, I want to try an SSD in my old 1525. good information and well presented, and no distracting music. well done! How is that SSD, is it working well? P.S. the video was a little quiet volume wise. 🙂

i'm very pleased to hear it! thank you :) the SSD is still working amazingly well even after some fairly heavy use (i must've filled and deleted its entire capacity in ISO files some two times in the past month), their parts seem to be indeed legit also thank you for the advice! i'll watch the audio level next time hehe

Great tip, thank you! For the record, I didn't have to change Flashcash or SATA options from default, on BIOS A17, a Crucial MX500 500GB SSD and Windows 11.

my bios isn’t up-to-date because i don’t have a battery anymore, that’s interesting! i’m curious, though, how slow does windows 11 run on your computer? i’ve had… pretty unbearable experiences with it running on CPUs over a decade newer than that

mine does not boot? is it because I use windows 10?
@gtkruntime5520

i’m not sure, but i think that if you have a preexisting install on the ssd made on a computer with UEFI enabled, you’ll have to reinstall windows 10.

Can I just buy and use a regular SSD or do I need a specific size or something (im new to old laptops plz help)
@petermolnar8667

You can buy a stick on spacer. Some SSDs come with them, for example Adata used to include it in the package with the SU800 if I remember correctly

as long as it’s a SATA SSD, it’ll work (not NVMe)

How did you disassemble it?
@gtkruntime5520
@gtkruntime5520 9 месяцев назад
the bottom cover is held in by captive screws, so you just unscrew them until they are loose in place and/or clicking every turn. the cover might be a bit stubborn even if fully unscrewed, so i just use a staple extractor to lift it off once all screws are loose.

you'll have to remove the four screws holding the HDD in by the sides, then screw the SSD in its place

What is specifications
@gtkruntime5520
@gtkruntime5520 2 года назад
are you asking about 1. the stock Inspiron 1525 specs, 2. the minimum required capacity for the SSD, or 3. the specs of my unit specifically? 1: when the 1525 was being sold, users could choose the specs that best suited their needs, so there’s a lot of variations knocking around 2: it depends on the OS you’re going to run. i use Windows XP because i like the versatility and how fast it runs on my PC, so a 120 GB SSD is more than fine for me, but you should probably pick higher if you’re running anything later than Windows Vista 3: Intel Celeron @ 2 GB RAM, iirc. as i mentioned in the previous answer, the SSD is a Goldenfir 120 GB, but the HDD it came with was a dreadful Fujitsu 120 GB that died as soon as the warranty expired.
