Thanks! I’m planning to make a dedicated dither video with audio and visual examples. Dither, or a lack of dither, isn’t going to make or break a song, but it’s still somewhat of a mysterious topic due to how quiet the noise is.

I personally don't touch the attack and release on the Pro-L2. Every time I mess with them, I realize I like the default settings better. I also keep the lookahead at the default. The one thing I do change is the algorithm. I like "Transparent." One confusing thing is that you kept turning up the gain right when the distorted part of the song comes in. It took me a while realize it was supposed to sound like that and wasn't high levels of distortion from the limiter. I was a little confused why L2 would have that much distortion on only a couple db of gain reduction. I think the source material could have been chosen better.

awesome, what is your take on placing two limiters in serial on mastering chain.
@BlackGhostAudio
@BlackGhostAudio 3 года назад
Go for it. I’ll sometimes use one limiter to bring a mix up in level, applying barely any gain reduction, and then I’ll use a second limiter to apply heavy gain reduction. When I do this, it’s mostly so I can benefit from the flavour of two different limiters. You could also potentially apply moderate gain reduction with both limiters. Just go with whatever you like the sound of!

I have a question about applying dither. When I turn on dither in Pro-L2 to 24bit, and then I go to export in Ableton, do I keep my .WAV export settings at 32bit or do I also need to apply dither to 24bit in Ableton’s export window?
@BlackGhostAudio
@BlackGhostAudio 2 года назад
Good question. Basically, you have two options: Dither Using the Pro-L 2: Within Ableton's export window, choose a bit depth of either 16 or 24, depending on the destination format. Most music distributors allow you to upload a 24-bit file so that's what I choose when exporting a song that's going to end up on Spotify, etc. Then, disable the dithering option in Ableton's export window. Instead, choose a 24-bit dithering algorithm within the Pro-L 2. Dither Using Ableton: Within Ableton's export window, choose a bit depth of either 16 or 24, depending on the destination format. Select a dithering option in Ableton's export window. Then turn Dither to "Off" within the Pro-L 2. You don't want to apply dither twice so you need to choose to apply dither using Ableton or the Pro-L 2. I usually keep the Pro-L 2's dithering algorithm turned off and apply dither using Ableton because, in some odd situations, a limiter isn't the last plugin in my chain. Both options I mentioned work and sound perfectly fine so it's just a matter of preference.

Wat abt DC offset sir
@BlackGhostAudio
@BlackGhostAudio 3 года назад
You only need to engage the Filter DC Offset feature if the input signal contains a DC offset. When a signal’s waveform is asymmetrical, the mean amplitude of the waveform isn’t zero, meaning the signal contains a DC offset. In your DAW, you’re often able to visualize this if the problem exists; the peaks in the waveform will go up noticeably higher than the troughs in the waveform go down. When you play a signal like this, it can clip prematurely. To remove slight DC offset, you can use a high-pass filter, which is what the Pro-L 2 appears to do when you engage the Filter DC Offset feature.

i have a question, you have on the right a section that I don't have when i open Pro-L2 that section with the LUFS, how do I open it?
@BlackGhostAudio
@BlackGhostAudio 3 года назад
Look at the bottom-right corner of the Pro-L 2 for a button that says "TP." To the right of this button, there's a squiggly arrow pointing at another button that has either a dB or K-weighted number value on it. Click on the number value button and select "Loudness" from the dropdown menu that appears; this will display the loudness meter!

Where do you adjust the threshold?
@BlackGhostAudio
@BlackGhostAudio Год назад
You don't :) The Pro-L 2 has a fixed threshold level. Rather than dropping the threshold level to apply compression, you increase the input gain to "drive" your mix into the Pro-L 2's threshold.

The concepts that I mention in the video apply to any genre. For more information on how much gain reduction to apply, I suggest watching the LUFS video that I refer to in the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_rKCmXIoygg.html

@@BlackGhostAudio iwill watch it but my question is when my when i raise up the volume to have the reduction it is now to loud how to have -13 even though i raised up the limiter to get the reduction
@BlackGhostAudio
@BlackGhostAudio 3 года назад
I’m not entirely sure what your question is, but the amount of gain you apply is not the same as the amount of gain reduction that gets applied. For example, if your song contains 12 dB of headroom, and you apply 13 dB of gain, only 1 dB of gain reduction will be applied.
