This video is perfect! Thank you so much, was struggeling with tracking, but now my camera is working just as i want it to! Thanks for spending your time educating others!
Hi , yes, the 2DE4A model has basic smart tracking whereas the DF models have been updated to Smart track engine V2.0 , which has target classification and you can adjust the confidence settings to keep it tracking certain objects
Hi Dave. Thank you very much for all you videos, they are really helpful. I have a situation and I would like to know if you can give some advise. I need to buy a PTZ camera with auto tracking and/or small tracking but exactly what I need is that the camera had the ability to perform a patrol but at the same time during the patrol movement be able to detect targets and track them (doing the zoom also, stopping the movement tracking the target and later back to continue to the patrol movement). I can see that the PTZ cameras (like in this video) are able to do the job when it is parked in a position, but, those features work also during patrol movement?. All the Hikvision PTZ cameras with auto tracking / smart tracking can be used in the described scenario? I really appreciate your advise. Thank you very much
Hi. Thanks for the guide - it works great! I have far less false alarms. The only problem I'm having is setting the record duration for intrusion... on two cameras it only records for 10 seconds, even though the smart track feature indeed follows the target for the nominated time. Any ideas?
Great videos and thorough explanations. All my gear is Hikvision so when setting up events which piece of equipment takes precedence? For example if I set up a Intrusion Detection event on the camera do I also have to duplicate those parameters in the NVR and IVMS-4200 or does one of them over-rule the other? My config: Cameras>NVR (for recording)>PC (IVMS-4200). Thanks
How do you stop it from hunting once you leave the area is there a way you can set up that time frame so it doesn’t keep hunting for five minutes and then it goes back to its position can you change the time frame so it only hunts for 30 seconds and then goes back to its set postion
Thanks for another great video. I love this camera and have become quite familiar with most of its settings. The only issue I continue to have is that it takes so long (10 seconds or so) for the Auto-tracking to actually engage and start zooming in or panning. I have been through every setting but can't find a way to make it respond any quicker. This delay has kept me from capturing critical moments. Are there any tips you can share relating to this?
Hi , it works the same on any VCA to be honest , its just more parameters inside that intrusion compared to say line cross, essentially you could use region entrance, there very similar ~VCA types
Hi, great videos and thank you very much for the info. Can you please tell me how to make the PTZ to resume its pattern motion after I have moved it manually from my Hik-Connect app on my iphone?
You can set the scheduled task , web login to the PTZ and under configuration and PTZ , set the schedules task for say 24/7 and then select the action patrol or pattern , and delay time of whatever is required say 60-120 secs , that should do it
This is a good way to use smart tracking . Thanks . I have a fixed hikvision Camera above my front door with it set for intrusion detection. I also have a Hikvision ptz pointed at my car . I set the door cams linkage to ptz but how can I set the duration that my ptz looks at the door and how can I make the ptz resume monitoring the car . The ptz turns to the door when intrusion is triggered but stays there . Have you got any suggestions ?
Hi , thanks for making contact, the best way is login to the PTZ via the web browser , then under configuration and PTZ menu , set the pre-set as the home position which would be the overview of the car , Presume pre-set 1 is used for door linkage? , then you will see option on tabs for park , enable this and select pre-set and number 2 , and time of say 20 secs , so if you move the PTZ or alarm linkage moves the PTZ , after 20secs it will return to its home position to look at the car, will that be ok for you ??
@@DVSLTD thanks for taking the time . wow it worked . i spent three hours trying to do it before i messaged you and eventually had to lie down my head was spinning . thank you
Hi there Dave , i have set this up as you have , but the camera will hunt when it has tracked left and right of its target and doesn't return to the center line automatically it just sits hunting, is there another setting or do i have to setup a preset first,, thanks great video
Thanks for the feedback , regards the PTZ hunting its looking for the target its lost , you can set a home pre-set and time for it to return , like 60 secs, under PTZ menu set this function , under smart tracking you can also set the maximum tracking time , default is 300secs , if using a home pre-set then worth setting that as same value
i have a DS-2DE4A225IW-DE. the picture is nice and clear until it starts to follow a target in smart tracking mode, the picture becomes noisy as thow the bitrate is set to a really low value. after the smart tracking event has passed and the camera returns to its initial position the picture is still a messy one. i have to reboot the camera to get the picture quality back to normal . if i operate the ptz function manually, the picture stays nice and clear . the problem starts as soon as the camera starts auto tracking a target . have you any idea what the problem is and how to fix it . thanks for all the informative videos by the way.
Hi , that is very strange, have you tried to update the firmware on the camera to the latest ?, and if so try a default but keep username and IP option
Hi Dave. Very informative. Question if I may. I have just bought one of these PTZ's and it is brilliant. Only problem is in my menu I do not have the PTZ sub menu between the image and event sub menu. I have a new 16 channel NVR 7616NI-I2 with firmware V4.1.64 190726 and am wondering if Hikvision have removed the PTZ option.I can do presets, patrols etc, but can't do smart tracking. No where in the menu can I find this. Thank you for your time Dave. Hope you can help.
@@DVSLTD Hi Dave. Thanks for your help. I sorted it out. The PTZ menu is in the camera configuration not in the NVR configuration. Again, great videos.
DVSLTD I have DS-2DE4A225IW-DE I don't have that option "detection Target". My camera tracks people walking in front of my house but if a car goes by while its triggered it will follow the car.
hello, do you know if this models allow smart tracking : DS-2DE3A400BW-DE ? you say it must have DS-xxxxAxx ref, but there is nothing in the specs talking about smart traking. Thanks.
Hi dvs, can you please clarify which hikvision cameras support smart events? I am looking for two outdoor ip camera (bullet) with wifi but unfortenatelly the cameras i found they are not supporting smart events. thank you
keep on feeding this channel. thumbs up! -- What if there are multiple Persons in the Region of Interest? Wich one does the Camera follow? Or is this too much for tracking?
Hi , we can only track one object , sometimes it does change to a new object but the V2.0 smart track function on new firmware allows you to adjust the tracking confidence in colour before and while tracking to try to get it to stick to the same object , hope this helps and thanks for the thumbs up 😀
Unfortunately this method does not work with the DS-2DF8236IV-AEL. The results are just as bad as the Smart Tracking option under PTZ. There is no option to specify Detection Target. The camera gets confused at any intrusion and is very unreliable. I tried the face detection which works but unfortunately it does not support the Smart Tracking.
So would this work with a Turbo HD Hybrid DVR pulling the PTZ Camera through the internal network or does it need to be directly into an NVR? And should a DS-2DE3304W-DE 3Mp work?
Why would it be that when I enter the IP address in explorer I don’t get the Hikvision settings page. I’d love to follow your instructions for setting up Tracking
Hi , if you enter the IP address of the PTZ then you should get the web page, unless the port has been changed for some reason or the page has been blocked by your IT , what address are you using?
@@DVSLTD Thank you for the quick response! I feel a bit foollish right now - the camera I thought was the Hikvision is actually a Yucheng (Sony 335 5MP) - My NVR wrongly identified it as a HikVision (I do have one of these but it does not have tracking). I was hoping to be able to set up a specific area to capture movement and tracking on the Yucheng like in your demo, but guess I am stuck with the factory option. It does work but quite often, when returning to the pre-set the lens has a habit of pointing at the wall - great for watching the odd spider! Really appreciate you help, thank you
Hello thank you for the great video. I have set up my Hikvision DS-2DE4A425IW-DE exactly as you described, however when a subject stops moving it returns to the initial position after only 5 seconds. How can I have it stay on the subject tracking in case they start moving again? 5 seconds is too short. In your video your say 60 seconds but I cannot find this in the configuration. Thanks.
Hi and thanks for the feedback , under the PTZ menu when in configuration , under smart tracking sub-menu , is the smart track time set to 300 or 0 , 300 is max time, 0 is track as long as possible , try that 1st. ibb.co/0F32b9K
@@DVSLTD Thank you for the response and the picture. I have tried changing smart track time to different values and it still returns to the initial position after only 5 seconds of no motion. Could this be a firmware issue?
@@DVSLTD sorry I did mean the web interface. Turns out the camera, DS-2DE4225IW-DE, doesnt have smart tracking so i think this is why the portal isnt showing the smart tracking function.
Hi, Can the smart tracking area set differently from each preset point ? so the scenario will be like, - VA from other camera / photobeam trigger - then will trigger the PTZ to point to one of the preset location - do smart tracking Thank you
Technically yes , in theory it doesn’t work , smart tracking is the lowest priority and when the alarm input triggers it then goes back the pre-set position , so I would say after multi times of trying we have had it working but most of the time it then doesn’t work in the real world ( sorry ) the new PTZ have Version 2.0 and its more stable when tracking humans / vehicles , but same would apply
@@DVSLTD Ahhh I see, so the preset trigger will have higher priority than the smart tracking. So even after its successfully do smart tracking to the object it will be override by the preset triggered. Because our scenario is putting few camera to protect the fence with with VCA or photobeam, if its triggered make the PTZ go to that preset zone, and track the object that trigger it. during idle the PTZ might be doing patrol or guard tour. anyway thank you for your info.
Hi, what is the cheapest version/lowest models with smart tracking? And next cheapest/lowest with classification and smart? (I would like to filter by this feature on Hik site but can't :( )
Hi , I have a hikevison PTZ poe plus camera and two static cameras running of a hikevison poe switch as the power and data source... I have cat 6 cable installed and its good quality cable . The ptz is around 20 metres away , the static around 30 and the other also 30 Every couple of days the cameras go offline and reboot a few hours later??? Any ideas? Am I expecting too much from the 4 port swith that it actually knocks off all 3 cameras ?
I have just purchased a DS-2DE4A225IW-DE which apparently has smart tracking however there is no PTZ option from configuration on the menu to go forward and set up Smart tracking on my NVR (DS7016 NI). Can you assist please Dave?
Is there a specific model or firmware needed for this? I am on a DS-7608NI-I2 NVR with the DS-2DE2A404IW-DE3 PTZ cams and I don't see the option to track?
what browser are you using ? can you try using edge and put the edge into internet explorer mode , to do this go to settings in edge and web browser and change default browser option for “ allow sites to be reloaded in internet explorer mode “ to allow , then load the PTZ , and then under settings tab again , select “ reload in internet explorer mode” and it should then show all the menus 😊
Hi, Thanks for the advice to use Edge. I installed Edge. However when trying to select the option for Edge to open as Explorer, that required tick box wasn't showing. So stumped again. I am thinking about calling you guys next week, is that possible?. Graham
Smart detection (eg line crossing & intrusion) are not very reliable. I want to trigger smart tracking when a photobeam is tripped on alarm input. In the basic event settings, there is no "smart tracking" option under linkage action. Do you know any way to activate smart tracking via physical alarm input?
correct we don’t currently allow the smart track activation via alarm input but this is a good request that we can investigate, by the way the latest smart track v2.0 that is on the latest DF models has been improved a lot with object classification to help smart tracking improve, have you tried it??
Hi , not on analogue , you can still do patrols and pre-set on analogue PTZ , but you have to set it via the DVR , pre-set 95 call , or IVMS-4200 , it can be complicated to achieve , the IP PTZ you can web login and easily set or adjust these parameters and a whole host more of them , so its much better to use IP if possible , I hope this helps?
@@DVSLTD Hey! Thanks a lot for responding. I don't have a PTZ camera yet but consider getting one soon. So, does it have to be a PTZ browser? What about the Internet Explorer browser? Is it the same thing? And, by the way, i cant seem to find the OSD. Where do I look fot that, in Live View tab or in Configuration tab? Thanks.
Hi.. Can you have multiable regions set up, with different presets? I have 2 presets patrolling my house. My problem is, that my camera have to record all the time, because I cant have the motion detection on, with the presets on my patrol. It could be nice, if I could have 2 regions with my 2 patrols, and I would detect if there is someone in that region, and track them.
Hey , in theory yes but the issue is in reality it doesn’t work as the auto track function does not have the highest priority. So the PTZ moves to the pre-set position, starts to track and then the time interval to move to the next Pre-set comes in and it moves, overriding the smart track function. Maybe with a long dwell time you could achieve it but it will never be 100%

Hello, I’m having a slight issue with auto tracking. When the camera detects an object (human/vehicle) it will auto track the object until it comes to a standstill and after about 5 seconds the camera will then revert back to the default/pre-set position. E.g. when a vehicle enters the road, it will track until the vehicle parks, the camera then reverts back to the pre-set position before the driver has exited the vehicle. Ideally, I would like the camera to stay on target for a longer duration in order to track the driver exiting the vehicle and tacking their next movements. Where can I define this parameter? I’ve followed all the steps and have the latest firmware installed on my NVR & PTZ camera. Any help would be greatly appreciated, many thanks.
under the web login of the PTZ , please go to configuration, PTZ sub menu and park time can be adjusted there, if its set already increase this, and also under smart tracking sub menu make sure the max time of 300secs is set , and park time is the same
@@DVSLTD thank you for your reply, much appreciated. I’ve tried enabling park action before and set the park action to auto scan, however what I’ve experienced is when the park time is up the camera would continuously scan in a 360 degree movement until I manually click on a preset to stop it. Based on what I’m trying to achieve what would be the best option for the action type, auto scan, frame scan random scan, patrol, pattern, preset, panorama scan, tilt scan? Many thanks.
very useful video. thank you dave. does the DS-2DE4A220IW-DE 2MP 20x Mini PTZ Camera have the same functionality and is that the only trigger (ie no beams or curtain PIRs) used to start a feed to a monitoring station.
Hi DVS Having problem at night time car lights are setting off my camera so you can imagine getting loads of push notifications how do I set my turbo DVR just for motion human thanks great posts ,Merry Xmas
@@shimon2476 Hi and no problem , the model DS-2DF8436IX-AELW is the better model to do this with , the smaller 4MP x25 has the older smart tracking , whereas the smart tracking V2 engine is more powerful for sure 😊
Hi , in motion do you mean , record in motion detection or motion in smart track? , latest PTZ firmware allows motion detection when on patrol or static , smart tracking is lower priority than patrol , alarm , pre-set etc so possible but not always achievable
Hi, appreciate the great video on this. I do have a question though. I have a Hikvision 2MP Darkfighter DS-2DE4A204IW-DE, I notice in my video and yours too that in the view when logged into the camera NOT on the live view via the NVR that it is picking up some shrubs that are moving in the live view window. I see it doing on your bushes to the left as well. How do I stop the showing, do I need to disable rules, or will that effect other settings. Thanks
Great video, much better behavior indeed. How do you configure this 60 seconds timer till the camera returns to its original preset ? Mine always returns back after 5 seconds.
@@sturmalexis Have you checked the timeout value of smart tracking , it should be set to 300 secs under smart tracking tab , also check scheduled task is not enabled , and no alarms are present
@@DVSLTD Yes, it's at 300 sec, no schedules, no alarms. Latest firmware, also did factory reset, same behavior, after smart tracking stops (no further movement) it goes back to previous position after 5 seconds. I only enabled intrusion detection as in the video. General smart tracking option is disabled.
I am still desperate to find a way to make the Smart Tracking feature engage more quickly. It always takes nearly 10 seconds for it to begin after motion has been detected and recording has begun. During that 10 seconds of waiting for the camera to adjust its pan and/or zoom I have usually missed the opportunity to capture what I needed. This happens even with perfect lighting. I now own 3 of these cameras and they all have this issue so I am faced with having to find different camera or continue to hope for a firmware update, which is not likely to happen. Does anyone have a tip on how to address this problem?
Hello, can you tell me how to activate the camera, to receive email alerts and at the same time activate auto tracking on my NVR. Thanks if you can help me

Is it firmware or outdated programming or something else? I have a DS-2DE4A220IW-DE PTZ Camera on a Hikvision NVR.
Hello can you please help me with the 5 second problem? More people in the comments have this problem and in the replys under the question from Faddy Achkar it seems to be solved. I've tried almost everything for more times, you're my last hope.
@@DVSLTD The problem that many people have out there is that the camera after locking a target and the target stops, after will return to preset position…no one was able to found a solution.

@@douglasbrands : I'm a Mac guy too and have exhausted all attempts to simply login to any of these cameras from Safari, Firefox , Opera, etc. I actually had to dust off and old pc laptop that I used for programming drones in order to gain access to the camera's interface for programming these features. That said, I have the new Hikvision 4mp ptz: DS-2DE4A425IW-DE and I think it is a great buy. The Smart Track feature is very impressive and the nighttime IR quality in total darkness is amazing. Smart tracking currently is a lower priority over an alarm or scheduled action , whilst the PTZ can under the correct setup smart track whilst doing a patrol , the patrol event will then override this and kick back in. its hard to get the balance just right so we have to put an order of command in place
DVSLTD is there a way you can help me out with explaining how to do that. I have an install I did a few months ago and I can not get that camera to cooperate . It just chases leaves and birds. Customer is pissed. Any information you could help with with would be greatly appreciated
