Thank you for this question. Yes, if you have an e-collar that is typically paired with a handheld remote, this collar will not have any containment capabilities. You would need to purchase a containment collar to use with this style of fence. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Customer Care Team at 1-800-732-2677.
Thank you for asking about this, Patrick! Depending on how big your chihuahuas are, it's certainly possible this may be a good fit! These collars are recommended for dogs 5 lbs. and up, so if your dogs are at least 5 lbs., this would be an option. In case this information is helpful, the correction is safe for dogs of all sizes; the weight recommendation is related solely to the weight of the collar receiver.
Thank you so much for reaching out, while the system can be used for smaller yards, we may suggest reaching out to our customer care team to find the best solution for you situation. The collar doesn't seem to reliably signal around the perimeter as I'm trying to set it up. It will almost always signal on certain flags, but then won't signal on areas right next to it (maybe 5 or 10 more feet around the signal perimeter). Do you have any advice?
We are sorry to hear you are having trouble with the set up Tyler. Our team would be more than happy to assist you with this. If you would like you can reach out to our customer care team via phone or chat Monday - Friday 8am - 7pm EST here - support.petsafe.net/s/
@@petsafebrand I figured it out with PetSafe customer service, they were very helpful! There is a "refractory" period after the collar is signaled, so that it doesn't continually correct your dog if they run past the area. I also put the transmitter in the lowest level of my house to capture the lower elevation parts of my yard. Thank you so much!
It sounds like the area is based on a circular "radius"....is that correct? The problem I'm having is keeping a dog from going near a fence, and keeping him in the garage when he's hanging with me while working. I'm trying to visualize how the parameters are set. Looks like a very promising product.
Thanks for asking about this, Phil! Our wireless units do emit a circular boundary, with a maximum radius of 105 feet from the transmitter with this model. Though it's possible this could be helpful in keeping your dog away form a physical fence, it is important to mention that wireless collars should not be worn indoors, including within garages. This is because the large amount of metal within a garage can cause radio signal interference; should the collar lose signal momentarily due to this interference, it would have no way of knowing your dog was not leaving the boundary, and would activate accordingly. For this reason, we do always recommend pets never wear their wireless collars indoors, in the garage, getting into the car, etc. We're so sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. For this particular situation, use of a remote trainer may be beneficial, to help your dog learn an appropriate 'off leash' distance he's allowed to be from you during that circumstance. If you have any further questions about these options, please contact our Customer Care team! We're always happy to help however we can.

Thank you for reaching out, Anahi. No reset is needed if you wish to adjust the boundary size. You can simply check the boundary chart in your manual to decide if your desired boundary size would be best for the high or low switch setting. Adjust that switch, then use the 1-8 dial to further dial the boundary to the appropriate size for your property. Should you need any help with these settings, feel free to contact PetSafe Customer Care directly at 1-800-732-2677.
Thank you for asking about this, Roxie! It is normal for the transmitter to be warm to the touch and emit a whirring or humming sound, due to the internal fan. Though some people barely notice this sound, to others it may seem very loud. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Thank you for that information. It did get very warm to the touch and had a hot wire smell so for now we have unplugged it. Will work more with tomorrow.
Thank you for getting back to us! As with most new electronics, it is normal for products to have a slight 'new' smell when warming up; this should disappate over time. If you have any further questions, please reach out to our Customer Care team directly!
Thank you for asking about this, Brandon! These systems can be effective for any breed. As each dog is an individual, the level of static correction that each dog responds to will vary based on their individual personality and behavior. We have spoken to some customers with pit bulls whose dogs responded to the very lowest level, while we have also spoken to customers with toy poodles who disregarded even the highest level of correction, etc. Most dogs do respond well to these collars when the training steps are followed in order.
We are sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue with your pup's system. Our team would be more than happy to assist. If you would like you can reach out to our customer care team here - www.petsafe.com/contact-us/
Thank you for this question, Carmen! The Stay & Play™ Wireless Fence can certainly work in any weather, as long as the power is on and the base transmitter is placed indoors in a dry, well ventilated, climate controlled area.
This is a great question, Ronna! Yes, the wireless boundary is always a complete circle; that shape cannot be changed. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
