Turning 76 years old this April and decided I'd do something I haven't really done except off and on or now and then. I want that fun back I had as a kid..... Got some Bee Flies delivered today and my wife had a fit... OH! Well.... When I cook her up some bluegills, she should get over it.. I Hope.

Howdy. I enjoyed the video. Great photography and production, straightforward and easy to understand. Well done. For what it's worth, I was a licensed guide on Utah's world famous Green River at Flaming Gorge for 12 years. And even though I'm not very smart, I still learned a few things worth knowing. One thing I learned was a very reliable and fast way to tie on a fly. I'd like to share it with you and your viewers. Hold your fly in your forceps when tying it on, not your fingers. Now all your flies have a handle the size of your forceps. The forceps give a more secure and reliable grip than your fingers ever will. It's a no brainer, particularly with small flies. (I don't have a brain, and I figured it out.) Here's another thing that might sound a little more radical. Spin the fly, not the tippet. I hold the fly with my forceps in my left hand, thread the tippet through the eye of the fly and point the end back at the fly. Then spin the fly and count the wraps. My right hand hasn't moved, and I haven't had to regrip the tippet even once, instead of 12 times if you spin the tippet. My tag end is in perfect position to stab it through the loop in the knot and pull it tight. It's less fiddly, lightening fast, and reliable. Cheers

@@claytonchristensen3439I’m just getting into fly fishing but I was just watching a video on this, tie on a piece of yarn as you need some kind of weight to cast, the yarn is similar to a fly and you don’t accidentally hook yourself, get stuck in the grass (if that’s where you are practicing), or damage your flies

I don't buy tippets or actual leaders. Just about a pole and quarters length of fluorocarbon tied to my loop with a clinch knot and it's on. I use a dropper fly most of the time but on the same line. I've never cut a separate line to tie to the top fly. Might try it.

Hey! Question about straightening leader? What do you guys suggest?🎣
@venturesflyco
@venturesflyco 4 месяца назад
Hey! Great question. There are “leader straighteners” out there. They are just two pieces of leather & plastic sewn together that you slide the leader through. But… in our experience, it’s not needed. You can just grab the leader with about 2 ft of leader in between each hand, pull tight a few times, and then work your way down to the other end. It will straighten out nicely. 😎🤙🏽
@landiwest2354

Wouldnt the line have to be detached to the main fly line to do a surgeons knot?
@venturesflyco
@venturesflyco 2 месяца назад
No. You will just need to detach the tippet from the tippet spool.
@lastcoyote2355
@lastcoyote2355 Месяц назад
Over the decades…fly fishing has become more about getting to fishing instead of understanding the basics . Years ago fly line had no perfection loop . Now , I cut the loop off tie on a butt section using a needle or nail knot , then using an improved surgeon knot I tie my leader on . The most important thing about knots is patience… it slows you down. When on a river you never ever should rush . If you’re in that much of a hurry to catch fish …. Go back to bait fishing… and most of all stay out of Colorado…. Our rivers are getting to many out of state douches .
@jamesjobe4307

There seems to be a disconnect with the loop to loop that I personally don't like. Casting rolls better with a nail or blood knot there.

I am doing a class study on videos and TV commercials and have a question I hope you can answer. I was a little surprised when watching this videos and it was strange for me to find this on your video. Why do you feel the need to have music playing in the background when you are talking and explaining this great topic for fly fishing. Do you think it ads something? Do you think I need to hear music when your talking? Do you feel someone will remember what your saying because of the music? Do you think someone talking about something not related to a fishing topic in the background would help us remember what your saying? I will document your answer if you give me your reasoning. I appreciate your time.
@venturesflyco
@venturesflyco 7 месяцев назад
Nothing sophisticated. Just like to add a bit of music as background noise. Feels less awkward during moments of silence.
@Dogsled1000
@Dogsled1000 7 месяцев назад
There are a lot of studies being done, (not sure if they're valid or not). They all seem to fall back on people today are not able to concentrate without white noise in the background anymore. Soon you will see people listening to 'music' with headphones while they're fly fishing. The art and calm of fishing will soon need noise in the background more and more as we start needing it to 'Feel less awkward during moments of silence' if god forbid we are subjected to no noise. Hey I'm not a Cradick of you or anyone, just trying to figure out where this trend is tacking us. I enjoyed your video though. Thanks for your reply.

I understand, but do the people that never saw that video understand? Remember, that if you get on a plane just partially full of fuel, can only get you part of the way, not all the way, before it crashes. Those that trusted you to fly with them don't know how much rope there is, just that they trusted what was told them before take off..
