Thank you so much! I just bought my first bandsaw (used) and it cuts wood fine but clearly needs some adjusting. This video was straight to the point and told me everything i was wondering about, clearly. Thank you again!

I have to agree this is a very good video. Short and to the point. I now feel confident to adjust my bandsaw so it is setup correctly. It definitely needs blade tensioning. Thank you Colin 👍😎🇦🇺

This is still by far the best video for the bandsaw novice using an entry level machine. Thankyou Colin I have made a lot of progress with my bandsaw today.

This video is very helpful to show principles of bandsaw adjustment. The bandsaw can be adjusted in many more ways than a table saw or other saws, and all those adjustments matter, so if some people are still having trouble with their saw cutting straight, square, and quiet they might dig a little deeper in the much longer videos such as those by Alex Snodgrass. I had a problem with my new-to-me saw that I could not figure out, and it ended up to be an adjustment on the table. The table can be adjusted for tilt, position (L-R and in-out) and twist (the table groove and the fence are parallel to the blade).

i have an old craftsman that i picked up for a few dollars. you just helped me not scrap it. it does not have a knob to tilt the wheel, it has a screw in the middle of the top wheel that does the trick. thank you so much.

Hi Myk, I also had an old Craftsman once, it was my first bandsaw and it was a junker. I took it all apart, cleaned, replaced and lubed it up and it ran like a dream. Sold it and even made a bit of money. Thanks for commenting and reminding me :) Colin

This was great info for me as I am a beginner and only have had my band saw for a month or so. To me it seemed like it needed adjustment because the blade moved and now seeing your video I know it needs adjusting so tomorrow I will be doing what you just showed me. Thanks Colin.

Good clear video Colin thanks. One oversight though... you did not mention that you had backed off the blade guides before you started centering the blade. If you do not do this, you can spin the wheels all day long, but the blade may not center correctly.
@j.h.4570
@j.h.4570 5 лет назад
You can use a piece of paper or such for setting up the guide blocks and ball bearing support of the blade. Put it in between, move the guide until it touches and the paper is held between guide and blade. Tighten the block's screw, remove the paper and you're set. Playing/poker cards might work well for this i think.

Great video Colin. Any idea where I can get a Delta bushing for tension? The rubber has died. Don t want to thru out a working band saw for a bushing . Supplier says the bushing is obsolete. Band saw is a 40 year old 9 1/2 inch. I understand there are no parts available period. Any thoughts?

Hi Colin, I just started watching your videos. I have two Delta bandsaw that were given to me. The run fine, however the blade on both of them twists. I have tried tightening it up but either it continues to twist or snaps. Any ideas how to resolve this issue other than getting a new saw. (Also have a Ryobi that twists in the opposite direction.) Ha ha. Thank you for any help. Frank Gonzalez. P.S. Great videos, very informative.
@knecht105
@knecht105 9 лет назад
Frank Gonzalez Hmmm, I have not encountered that issue before. The blades could be snapping because they are to tight. A bandsaw blade (depending on thickness) needs to be tight, but to tight is not good either. If we are to diagnose this over the internet, probably better by email, you can find that on woodworkweb.com ... I think first I would check the belts, if these are old saws, probably need the belts on the wheels that hold the blades to be replace if they are hard, cracked or gone altogether. That would be my first guess.

hi colin, i´m starting a work shop,and i´m buying some tools and machines, now i´m about to buy a band saw, but i found a lot off sizes and different HP power engines, and i want to ask you an advice: what kind of band saw could you recommend me?, the most comun here are the 10 " 1 3/4 HP or the 9" 1 3/4 HP , or ,do i need a bigger one?. im a begginer on wood work, and i dont want to spend some money on machines that doesnt work good. hope you could help.
@knecht105
@knecht105 9 лет назад
Jesus Cortes I'm sure you are aware there is very little difference between a 9" and 10" ... in this case I would choose the 10", Larger is better when it comes to band saws. To be honest, I would see if you can get a 12" or even a 14". Of course it really depends on the kind of work you will be using it for and what your budget is like. I have a 12" and 16" ... I don't use the 16" much and I find the the 12" is often too small for what I need. Hope this helps ... good luck with your search Jesus
@JCHCREACIONES
@JCHCREACIONES 9 лет назад
hello colin, thank you very much for the advice, you're right , I better look for a 12 "or ( 14" ) which seems to be the right one , I will go to other stores and see what is available.

Hello Colin I just purchased a 3 wheeled Craftsman 10" bandsaw. When cutting the blade slows down then stops. I was wondering what causes this and how to fix it. Paul
@knecht105
@knecht105 9 лет назад
Paul Sawyer I have not used any of the 3 wheel band saws but they tell me the 3 wheel versions can be tricky to set up ... but, you are not to that point yet as yours isn't really running. Hard to diagnose over the net, but, I would think it is either a drive belt / pulley problem, or, it is one or all of the tires on the 3 wheels, which is what I would check first. These tires need to be replace if they are mushy or have gone really hard and cracking. Let me know how that goes ... probably email is better for this
@sirpablo199
@sirpablo199 9 лет назад
Found out the problem. Thank goodness it is an easy fix. It is missing a screw I have to track down and order. Thanks for the reply. When the gear that is attached to the motor moves, the belt is not aligned. That bring why the blade stops.
@knecht105
@knecht105 9 лет назад
Paul Sawyer Oh good .. well that was easy, hopefully tracking down a screw or bolt will be as easy

I have 2 questions, are Bandsaws super expensive (both the big and mini Bandsaws), and what happens when you run the Bandsaw with the doors open (showing the wheels inside)?
@j.h.4570
@j.h.4570 5 лет назад
Not much will happen but you getting more sawdust on you and around than necessary ;o) Nevertheless always keep the covers on or you might hit the blade or get caught by running parts!!! That's why some bansaws (including mine) can hardly be turned on without the covers. So for safety and cleaning reasons leave them where they are supposed to be. The price for those saws depend on what you are looking for and intend to make with. Sometimes you can get a good quality brand device for a reasonable price and those old machines often are built much better than the plastic stuff you often find on the market nowadays. Just my opinion of course!!
