Yes you need the Hive Hub as a controller. Just like the philips hue and others.

Perfect! I do have a query though… I’m guessing that you have to leave the light switch on? Also … If you wanted to turn the light on and you don’t have the app, would switching the switch off and then on again turn the light on?

@@mikesunboxing thanks for your reply Mike. I’m just trying to pair the Hive Hub with my phone atm but it’s stuck on trying to pair! Hopefully the old ‘ have you tried turning it off and back on again’ trick will work 🤞🏻

Hi. Can you use the app to turn off the light without using the timer? From your video, it looks like one can only dim it to 5%

Yeah the hive accessories all need to be paired with the hive hub and a hive account

Other smart bulbs are available from places such as eBay and Amazon. They will work with Hive, but also with phone apps and/or via smart systems, eg Alexa or Google. So no, you don’t need to have a Hive hub to operate smart bulbs.

I don’t think that is right unless here has been a hive update that allows non hive bulbs to be added to the eco system

I have repeated your steps but the app could not find device. Repeated multiple times but with same dussapointing6 result. Any ideas?

Is your bulb flashing? As if it is looking for a connection? And are you using 5ghz wifi?

It is flashing when first switched on. I m not using 5GHz wireless. Is the a requirement. I have one other Hive light and thermostats working

No the 5ghz isn't really a requirement just wanted to see if you were using it. How long does the light flash for?

Do I have to be login to the same WIFI to control it? Can I control it via 4G in my iPhone from my garden? 🤔

As long as you have the app setup you can access for anywhere, and if you have alexa or google home you can just say the command without having the app installed. I quite often tell Google to turn the heating on when i'm driving home, or tell google to turn the lights off as i drive away. It is just like the jetsons, except the flying car

Do the bulbs have to be near the Hive Hub? I have just installed a Hive GU10 bulb in my kitchen, which is 10-15 meters from the Hive Hub, and the Hive app cannot see the new device. I have performed multiple resets of everything imaginable. Useless!!

Hi the hive devices run there own wireless network that uses the hub to communicate. The bulbs switches and other devices all create a mesh network so you need a device to create the missing area of the mesh. Does this make sense? You could maybe ask them for a plug in booster. They gave me one when I was getting issues. You can see the video I did on it in the playlist

@@mikesunboxing Hi. Many thanks for the quick response. I didn't know that's how they work. My thermostat works miles from the hub so still quite surprised it couldn't find it. Might try a different GU10 socket nearer the hub to see if works.

Yes that is its primary function. It just has smart features available if you want or need them. Although it is a bit expensive to use as a regular bulb if you don't need any automation functions

Mike's unboxing, reviews and how to I need a hive hub extender as the door sensors on my hut & garage are just out of range . A hub extender is £29 , I can buy a bulb from Argos for £14 . If the build does the same as the extender I save £15.

Scotia Jinker that is a good idea. The bulbs do act as a extender for the mesh so that would be a good idea
