How loud/quiet is your tank?
@MrMastavida
@MrMastavida 2 года назад
Quite loud :( biggest issue I have is the chiller, when it kicks in I need to get my sound cancelling earphones on.

28db right next to cabinet. I worked really hard in order to make my tank 100% silent. I installed several layers soud deadning materials which absorb vibrations, they are even under sump and cover all cabinet inside. Also made door overlap so there is no sound escape cabinet. Skimmer is on custom rubber pads. In fact I everywhere used 3 layers - 1. to absorb vibrations 2. with sound membrane and 3rd acoustic foam. My lighting is MH + T5 so also no noise at all. Your video is great but its not solution. Automotive grade sound and vibration absorbing materials are only way how make aquarium really 100% silent. Expensive, but works

I have the same tank and it's pretty much silent. The skimmer is the loudest thing.

I have been through a number of pumps and other devices and found eheim the best for quietness. My bedroom tank is practically silent.

Pretty quiet - my RSR250 is in the living room - jecod return at 100% is quiet - I only run the skimmer at night - GHL KHD doses kalk (plus some coralbox occasionally dosing All4Reef)... I have my cabinet open in the day. Yeah I am often adjusting the drain but its fine. I don't hear the wavemakers (Tunze, Coralbox and an old Jebao Gyre) - I have the return off now for feeding and I only hear (if I try) the slightest hum I think from my SBReefLight

My 100l AIO is virtually silent until the fan kicks in on my Prime 16HD. It only comes on for a few minutes a day so I can live with it! My office desk is 3 feet away and I’m really noise sensitive so I’m pretty happy with it. I do worry about upgrading as I know I’m into the realms of gurgling pipe work but you’ve given me hope that I can still have my slice of reefing heaven in my office! Thanks as always 👍🏻👍🏻

What a great topic! When I was younger and sharing a flat with a mate I had a Red Sea 130D nano in my bedroom - that ran really quietly so definitely agree regarding the all in ones. These days I have a house with the missus so don’t need a tank in my bedroom thankfully! I have an EA ReefPro1200S which is in my study and its not silent but it is very quiet and doesn’t disturb me while I work. All my pumps and skimmer are DC and oversized so I can have them running at around 50% for my tank which really keeps the tank noise down as you mentioned. The main drain pipe into the sump has a valve on that which I tuned in with my Vectra M2 so that there is no trickling water which was the main thing I wanted to avoid - Herbie overflows that are properly tuned really can be silent! Keep up the great reefing content! P.s. love the cat at the end of the video 😂

As an obsessive individual minimizing noise is pivotal. In my new home I put my sump under my stairs. The sump is isolated on a neoprene pad. I still have so noise in my living room from my Vortech Pumps and Radion Fans that is rather not have but it’s definitely better than the return/skimmer hum Agreed on getting a silent pump being difficult. I’ve had Varios pumps and they are solid but not silent. To get size-able pumps that are silent you’re pretty limited to the high end Royal Exclusiv and Abyzz pumps. Their size and design really makes them silent.

I was after silent wavemaker, wanted to buy Nero 3 but ended up with Jebao SLW (copy od Nero) and I am very happy with it. It is abolutely silent and moves water nicely.

Good morning! Thank you v.much for such an absorbing, informative site! I'm a house move and a few years away from beginning this hobby, I'm not a young man nomores, so's I'd better get on with it ASAP. I've been viewing various sites for a decade now, back then T5's were all the rave, never heard of a reef mat back then. The UK bias to your films, makes them essential material to be consumed. I have just joined as a member and aim to begin the hobby by buying an RDO unit and a quarantine tank - should I buy two of these, one for coral, t'other for fish? Films are superb! VBW x
@ReefDork
@ReefDork 2 года назад
Welcome Glenn. Rodi filter is an excellent purchase but I personally wouldn't recommend quarantine - it's easy to get wrong when you're new and most people don't get problems with fish diseases. Plenty of people disagree though so read both sides and see what suits you
@glennanderson7795
@glennanderson7795 2 года назад
Good evening! Thank you for replying so quickly! I must get the acronym correct over the RODI unit (I will) I've seen mention of the film you made on not having a quarantine tank and I will watch this along with the huge library of other such stuff you have listed. "Look, learn, and inwardly digest" was a phrase oft' used when at senior skool, and I shall apply the same here. Do you know what happened to New York Steelo from a decade (or more) ago? VBW Glenn x

You might want to consider a 3D printed light shade to reduce glare

I personally don't mind the sound of water. Its like a free white noise machine along with my fan and airconditioner. There is a heater in the tank so the fish aren't frozen.

Bit of an odd question Alex but here goes! Does having blue lights in a home office show up on ur webcam for teams calls? Just wondering if i get one will it be constant questions about it or else having to dim the blue down a lot/off certain times..🤔🤔
@ReefDork
@ReefDork 2 года назад
Nope, very good question! It did look a little blue at first but nobody notices now - might be because I've added a 2nd screen that lights up my face more. But nobody says anything now...

All waterbox tanks are pretty easy to make completely silent. I'm running a waterbox peninsula 4820 and it's completely silent. Can't hear anything even though I'm sleeping right next to it.

@@ReefDork Ah ok thanks! I'm a stickler for sound as well and I currently don't have a skimmer but thinking of adding one. The thing I can hear most are my 2 Kessil A360X. The A360Xs don't seem to have variable fan speeds that depend on the temperature. Should have got a ReefLED90 which I heard and now see in your video is better on the sound front. Annoying!!

Getting rid of the Frag 55.2 is probably the 2nd worst decision Waterbox ever made The worst is not having a smaller sump by taking away the ATO section, having a bottle with gravity fed ATO and therefore having more room in the cabinet
