Enjoyed this video as I just received an XCarve from a neighbor who no longer wanted it and only used it a couple times. Pretty good gift Isuppose.... Looking forward to getting started on this.
With my work station complete and my X carve installed on this, I've made a simple design (a small signboard) to run as my first project...using a 60deg carve bit. This little tutorial was just perfect.... cleared up a few points and showed me how to use the Z probe and how to establish a point of noriging...noriging?....origin for starting the actual carve. Many thanks.
thats great job,,,and i actually was thinking about getting one,,but im not very good at a computer,,lol,,im like the fellow,,,,,simple things for simple minds,,
Don't let that stop you. When I first started I did not know anything about the CNC or the computer aspect. Just take it slow and learn a little bit each day.
This actually really helped me in setting my machine up for the first time. They only question I have, where do you get your bits and what are some good starter bits to get?
Thank you for you comments. I am very happy that it helped you set up your machine for the first time. The initial bits that I bought were from Inventables. It was a started set and quite frankly some I have never used. The type of bits really depend on what you plan to carve. I do mostly wood and some acrylic. The bits that I use most are the v bits 60 and 90 degree. I get them from the big box stores and from Inventables. The t-slot bit I use came from Harbor Freight only because that is the only one I could find. Super cheap but needs to be sharpened often. The 1/16 and 1/8 inch straight and spiral all came from Inventables and are used all the time. Use downcut bits on wood for a cleaner cut and upcut on acrylics. If you have any questions or projects you would like to seen please let me know. Thanks again
I went exactly by your instructions, yet my x carve either goes behind my material or to the side. Thanks for all of your videos, hope I can get this going soon.
Thank you for the great videos. In this one... You didn't demonstrate how you increased the speeds, particularly in the middle of the job. That would be good to know. Also, which brushes (assume the router motor brushes)?
To increase the rate while the project is running is simple. The tab is in the top right of Easel with a "+" and "-". I have shown this numerous times. The brushes for the DWP 611 router are listed in the description and are available from Amazon through my affiliate links.
@@PawPawsWorkShop Thanks a bunch. Sorry to miss previous examples. I am completely new to CNC and even newer to your channel. But I hope to catch up! Thanks again!
Thanks for answering this question as I had the same questions. I really appreciate your videos! I just finished my x-carve set up today and will run my first project in the morning!
Set up my first carve... the steps seem pretty simple... As soon as I pressed 'carve,' The spindle went straight across the board and off the other side. nowhwere near where I was expecting it to begin... it began to carve thin air... So, no damage done. Is quite late at night, so I've shut down for the time being and will begin the setting up from scratch tomorrow. No idea what went wrong other than, 'operater error.'
@@PawPawsWorkShop Hello Paw Paw, Yep using Easel. Left it overnight and returned to it today. A successful carve, though I set the final depth too deep and lost definition in the lettering, but hey... first attempt quite pleasing to see the machine operate as instructed... albeit my instructions were for too deep a carve. Will turn the board over, change some settings and try again... Huge, huge thanks for your reply. :-)
I am having a problem with my X-carve cutting raised letters using Easel Pro, some of the words cut some don't and the machine is cutting at different depths in a single pass. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Share the Easel file on the forum. I'll and others will take a look at it and see what can be done to fix it for you. What bit are you using. First guess, it sounds like the bit is too large for the design.
i am very new to X carve, thank you for your videos i am having problems with loading images from easel of lightburn, im not the smartest when it comes to computers do you have a video for that?? also how do you know what bit to use ?
Once you have a file completed in Easel you can save the file to your computer as a download zip file. Select file from the top menu and select download zip. Save the file to your computer. In Lightburn, open the file after you unzip it in your computer. The choice of bit depends on what you project will look like and the desired affect.
Yes, you can set it manually in Easel. When you are going through the checklist you will be asked to use the probe or set manual. Just select the manual and follow the steps. The probe is easier but certainly not necessary.
Howdy.......I have followed your directions..... everything looks great as far as the carve...... but the entire carve is not centered on the board. My sizes were correct to match the size of the wood.... my rendering screen looked great and centered.... but it ran off the top edge of the board. It carved off about a 1/2 inch. Do I need to calibrate? Will this throw off my carving..... because right now the carving is dead on. Just the placement is off. So sorry for my ignorance.....just a newbie here.
If you have never calibrated you machine, it may be off a small amount. Take a look at the exact x,y zero point on your workpiece compared to the exact location on the computer. More than likely that will be off just a little. I'm working on a video now where I am measuring to the mm to try to get it as close as possible.
@@PawPawsWorkShop .... howdy.... I checked out everything.... and it is correct on my computer screen. I have never calibrated my machine. Question.... will the calibration only effect where is starts carving..... or will it effect my actual carving. My carvings look great..... just can't get the position correct. I'm afraid if I calibrate.... it will screw up the carving.
@@mgbchuck ..... Howdy...... I am so sorry that I wasted your time. I was stupid and didn't check my settings. My one internet friend pointed out that I had a 7 1/4 board..... and I had my easel set for 7.50 ..... not 7.25 . So simple...... I was looking for something much more complicated. I changed the settings ... and it carved perfect. Once again..... thanks for your help...... I will try to be more careful.
@@PawPawsWorkShop I would really like to see you do a video on the x,y zero info. That is the stumbling block for me and it seems like it is for a lot of folks. I really enjoy your style of teaching Phil.
FYI The part of the video that takes place at ~9:25 (setting the XY axis) is repeated at ~10:20. I doubt that was intentional but if so just ignore me. .....Gord
