Great instructions. Quick and easy to follow. Question: Is there anyway, after setting the Custom WB, to know what Kelvin the CWB set the camera to? I saw another RU-vid using the Sony Alpha 7. The camera displayed the Kelvin temp. I’d like to use this information to choose the correct filter for my flash.
Ok now I been searching for an answer. When taking the photo of white card.do the camera need to be set on auto balance or custom balance. No one in these many of videos I watched mentions that
Paul, speedlites are the color of daylight (in white balance). If you are using a speedlite indoors where the lighting is dim and the more tungten (orange), you can set your Camera white balance to tungsten (around 3200 ), to match indoors, then place a color temperature orange (CTO) gel over your flash. That way, you have a more consistent and amazingly balanced color. Hope this helps.
don't you think the background and other elements eg black border will effect the colour balance. shouldn't you zoom in so that only the white is being used
Just got Eos R...Custom WB is so dumb!!!! Even Lumix GX8 has just little box on a screen, so I can take an image of my gray card and WB set automatically. EOS R such a new camera but you have to come back to many to set it. Problem is I can't hold my grey card in one hand, camera in the other and take an image of grey card, because of EF 50mm 1.4 will not focusing so close... I spend only one hour with this camera and already drives me crazy(((
What a horrible workflow. Switching to photo mode to get WB for video? I don't know any other camera that requires settings WB in photo mode. You're taking what should be a two step process and making to more complex. Canon Cripple Hammer strikes again.
On the screen your white balance still looks blue--but what a boondoggle. Canon behind the times by a decade. White balance my Panasonic S1 in 15 seconds, TOPS. It's things like this that makes Canon SUCK for video. Go into stills mode to white balance for video in 2020!!!! This is just a big middle finger to those of us who shoot video with these cameras. You suck Canon!
