Bro you just saved me so much time and asspain. Thank you so much for posting this. I bought retro pie 4 specifically to play mortal Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.
Thank you so much for this video… I have used this information to help me set the controls for Krazy climber, Battlezone, Robotron… All the games that require odd configuration. I was very frustrated over the fact that none of them worked right… And now I can set them individually. This is awesome… Thank you.
Thank you so much! I've had such a headache trying to figure out how to map the buttons. No idea why it can't just be "1,2,3," for the top and "4,5,6" for the bottom. Thank you for figuring it out!
Thank you for taking the time to do this... My frustration level boiled over before I found this video... In MAME for Windows i'm quite sure it says High Punch etc. in the menu... Hopefully RetroPie will mature at some point thanx
This was helpful. Quick tip u can also use “retro arch” to program each core (emulator) or individual core game controls without keyboard. Special key plus X to access.
@@ericmnr I’m sorry, I did it so long ago, if I remember correctly, u do it on the loading screen of each console. U setup ur controls in retropie, one of them is a “special” button, one is “x”.
You are the man! I had this mapped out once on my arcade, but everything went back to default settings. I didn't have it written down either. It's a bit of a head scratcher trying to figure out too. Thanks for the video.
Thank you sir! You saved me a lot of time! 1 question, have you ever had it not save your settings on a power reset? Trying to figure out how to get it to save.
Incase anyone is wondering how to remap in the core cause you can't tab button layout is as follows: Auto 3 - weak kick Auto 1- medium punch Auto 4 - medium kick Auto 0- weak punch Auto 5 - strong kick Auto 2- strong punch Make sure you do it for each player and make sure you "save game remap file" before you exit
Many thanks.... Althoe ryu is slightly slower than Ken.... He still cought you with that uppercut as you tried to jump onto him.... The Ai in that game was sharp as ever👍🏼
Now you have me thinking about the other Street Fighter Mame games on my Arcade1Up unit. For example Marvel vs. Street Fighter...I just seem to mash buttons and now and then am able to swap out characters but I have no idea exactly what I am doing...do you have a layout for those games as well?@@GregsGameRoom
It's probably the same if it's in MAME. The other emulator that's in RetroPie (CPS) doesn't do the button config the same way. Not sure how to change it yet. But I'll check out MvSF later tonight.
For some reason I have completely different layout for mk 1,2,3. Here it is just in case. mame2003, romset 0.78, default retropie input with xbox controller button2 HP button1 HK button 3 BL button 4 LP button 5 LK button 6 BL/Run
I have a problem I've been dealing with for a while I may have posted here before. When I enter the TAB menu, everything looks fine HOWEVER, when I enter Player Controls or Input This Machine the box containing the dialog to change the settings shifts, and I can only see a little bit of the blue box peeking from the side or sometimes the bottom of the screen, I presume its a resolution problem but have not been able to remedy the "Box Shifting" error, please help if you can or a link if you know where i could go to find a fix.
Any idea how to do this with a legends gamer pro? I’m mapping controls for X-men and p1 maps perfectly. When I try to map mame buttons for p2 it sets the buttons for p1.
My problem is high punch keeps becoming block. I’m using an Xbox one controller. It doesn’t want to map high punch and keeps turning into block even though it says button 2 is hp. Any suggestions?
Hey Greg great video with useful information For some reason my button 3 and 5 won’t map to anything, do you know why? When I click anything to set nothing happens
Happens to me sometimes too. I usually jump out of the menu and come back in and it works. Unless you have a button that's not connected properly (or it's bad.)
Cool. You can even just use this if your playing with a gamepad as well. Does it save the set up when you power off your pie and come back to it later?
I was able to do this for player 1, but when I try to change the controls for Mortal Kombat, I cannot change player 2. When I push my chosen button for player 2, nothing happens. Player 2 is currently working correctly for Street Fighter. Please help!
I need your help I downloaded the Tatio game frontline to my retropie 4, but my joystick and buttons are all messed up. Is their a way to figure what buttons are what and the joystick also should be setup as well.
How do you see the game controls for a certain game with mame? Today I was loading golden tee and accidentally hit a button that pulled up a menu showing a graphic of the control panel and what each button does (in golden tee, not the mame menu) it was perfect, and I want to be able to see the button layout for each machine. Do you know how to do this?? Can't seem to make it happen again it's so frustrating.
how to set up Player 2 control setting from joypad if anybody wants to set up then player 1 comes automatically instead of player 2. How to solve it? Pls help me
I have every button on my arcade mapped the same. Everytime I play a different game in arcade/mame emulator on retropie my 2nd player buttons re arrange can't figure it out? Anyone else run 8nto this problem?
Hi greg, so do you know if this would work with Robs RetroPi? I dont know if your familair with his creation but i have it and all the MKs, button setups are all over the place, i just dont want to mess up the pi in any way, also too i do not have a keyboard is that the only way to do it? if so ill just bring my work keyboard home and just do it with that, thanks brother
@@pop09890 unfortunately no not yet I did get a keyboard for it I just got to find time to do it I'm about to go on vacation for a week so probably do it when I get back
@@SteveTT81 man I posted stuff on fbook book Robb told me not to mess with it. But one of the main reasons I got it was to play sf with fam would be nice if I could get the map accurate
@@pop09890 for real SMH all mortal Kombat games on that thing the buttons are so messed up I don't know why he or whoever didn't map it the normal way it's very frustrating and of course the damn thing is so sensitive in a way if you mess it up he's not going to do anything for you
I bought a hori fighting stick mini but i can't do combos like hadoouken or shoriuken with this controller. It doesn't answer to the commands and combos work only occasionally. This thing happen only in fihting games. The seller told me this joystick doesn't have axes. Could it depend on it? Could someone help me please? Many Thanks
Okay here the funny thing...the first player the buttons have the person punching a lot...and on the second player they have the kicking buttons ?🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️😂🙏🏾🙏🏾😩😩😩
if you're using a USB encoder, you need to make sure all the buttons are plugged in the same way on both. I.e., if you have the bottom button closest to the joystick plugged into slot 1 on P1, then that same button needs to be plugged into slot 1 on p2 as well. Otherwise, the computer can get confused.
