Thank you for this very detailed video. It will help me to connect my HEQ5 to Stellarium (hopefully). Just waiting for the cable to arrive in the post. Keep up the good work
I like your personality. I had searched for this topic and clicked on this video. While the video was loading I saw it was from AstroForum and I was saying to myself "Is this that Danish guy's channel...??? I hope it is, he's a fun guy to watch." And it was. : ) Thanks for the video.
Thanx Wido for the great videos. I’m just getting ready to fire up my CGX for the first time and this video is exactly what I needed to do it. You have a great channel👍
Thanks for all the great advice very helpful and informative. I'd just like to say your English is getting really good. I love your accent... don't worry about Brexit we all still love you x
Thank you for sharing, I want to know what to do after this I mean once you point to target, How can we start tracking for longer exposure, sorry I am new in this field so asking. Also, I request if you can make one simple video end to end there we can learn from setting up things to tracking a couple of images so we can know how these all puzzle piece comes together. Why I am asking these because it is very hard for beginners to line up all things it's much complicated so it is my humble request if you can show us a complete end to end video please, thanks once again.
You should use APT for controlling mount/camera... From within APT you also have access to deepsky objects, you can select them and the mount will slew to it. But before this to happen you have to setup platesolving in APT. With platesolving the program takes a picture through your main camera/telescope and automatically knows where you're pointed at and sends the coordinates to your eq mount. If you don't have platesolving you have to do a 3-star alignment with the hand controller and now you also can make goto commands to your objects. I use Stellarium to check my framing, you can do a show command in APT and then in Stellarium you can see exactly how you're framed with your camera/telescope combination. i don't use Stellarium to control the mount because this gives problems when PHD2 guiding is enabled.
Great video, just got done setting it up in my basement and works great. Question, lets say the scope is just not quite centered on the subject. How can I move the mount left, right, up or down from my Stellarium program? I see this happening to me. :) Thanks so much for the video!! Great help.
Yes, that happens, especially when using stellarium. there are two options. You'll adjust the position using your handcontroller and you'll notice that in stellarium the object is a bit off center when in reality it is centered. Or you could adjust your alt-az position of your eq mount, but then you'll mess with your polar alignment.
I've been through many videos trying to figure out why I cannot connect my telescope.. every video fails to mention you have to select "Load at Startup" and then CLOSE Stellarium and then reopen so you can add your mount..
Thanks for your positive feedback! I have a more recent video, perhaps useful to connect your telescope mount to stellarium: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-k17jMVDWb5Y.html clear skies!
i see you use a phone cable (RJ11) ? to plug into the synscan hand controller , i know the black adaptor plug is for usb (RS232) / what is the red plug called that you plug the phone cable into ? // i have the heq5 mount and with just these wires you show in your video is that all i need in stellarium to pick targets and slew ?? am i right in thinking i wont need an EQmod cable ? // i am using a DSLR and lens manualy to image // thank you
How do you label or name the asteroids so that when you zoom out you can still read the name in relation to the constellation? I've seen other videos that can do this...Thanks!
No, it's not as good as plate solving. It gets you close to the target. Before platesolving, I used this to get close and then my Reddot finder (for planets). Cheers.
Great video! I just purchased a Celestron 9.25" SCT with a SkyWatcher German Equatorial mount. Would I be able to connect to Stellarium using bluetooth instead of direct line? Thanks so much! Richard in Detroit, Michigan USA
@@MrGuitar50 ok, the Eq6r-pro can be connected via direct usb on the mount. Don't know if there is a Bluetooth solution. If you want wireless, the asiair might be interesting for you.
Hi and thanks for another great video. I'm watching this because I was uanble to download Celestron NexRemote to my laptop (Windows 10) and I was therefore looking for another application like Stellarium to use. I also have an AVX mount. Question - I wanted NeexRemote because I wanted to be able to use the functions of my Celestron hand controller on my laptop. Will Stellarium allow me to do this, or can it only be used to guide my telescope to sky targets? I have a Celestron Focus Motor connected to my mount and I wanted to be able to contol it from my laptop using the connection from my hand controller to my laptop. Basically, I want to be able to use all the functions of my hand controller on my laptop - is that possible? Any help or advice you can give would be greatly appreciated and thanks for all your uploads, they are a big help.
Hi nolin, stellarium can be useful to get your astrogear to point at an astronomical object. From there on you would need a camera and sequencing software like backyard Eos or sequence generator Pro. Just dive into this hobby, it's really awesome. Clear skies!
I'm wanting to manually control the slew on my mount with stellarium so I can fine tune the position of the scope. Can I do this from stellarium, or is the GOTO the only way to control the mount?
Hi, i have a problem. I can’t tap the configure button in the telescope control section and the “slew telescope to” icob in the bottom doesn’t exists in my stellarium.(I use 0.20.1 version) Can you please help me?
I'm having trouble. I am trying to connect remotely from one computer to the next to the mount. Stellariun is running on the computer attached to the mount but it still won't synch up and let me slew. I haven't verified the com port yet (I missed that step). Could that be all or does Stellarium not allow remote operation?
Yes. You need to connect your mount via COM to enable stellarium to remotely control your mount. Please check how you can make this work. What mount do you have? Good luck!
As a further comment to my one below, I have now managed to download NexRemote to my laptop. I had to use the compatibility function to make my laptop appear to be Windoiws 7 to NexRemote instead of Windows 10, the installed system. Anyway, can one use the handcontroller functionality viw NexRemote in conjunction with Stellarium? Will Stellarium allow me to use all the functions of my Celestron NexStar hand controller or is really just for guiding the telescope to targets in the sky? Thanks for any advice / suggestions / thoughts.
Sometimes the target is not centered in the view. Is there a way to make minor slewing movements? I've read that making corrections with the hand controller ruins your alignment. Thanks Tom, Tucson
Hi Tom, thanks for your question. To my knowldge, you are able to use your handcontroller to slew your mount a little. Stellarium should recognize the slew and adjust the RA and DEC position on your screen. I have had similar challenges with Stellarium, sometimes it requires you to slew a bit around before finding the target...It also depends on the accuracy of your polar alignment whether your target is in the field of view...about a half year ago I switched to using Sequence Generator Pro, which includes plate solving. I have some video's on that, you can check them out. It helped me find my targets with much greater ease.
@@AstroForumSpace Thanks. I'll give that a try. One reason I do like Stellarium is I can align with the hand controller, first. Then, I can use S. to navigate. I enjoy your channel. Clear Skies!
@@tomwall8403 thanks for your kind words. I'll also check it out. If you see the little cross hairs moving while using your handcontroller you should be fine. If not, use ctrl 1 on a slightly different location in stellarium. Skies are cloudy right now :-).
@@AstroForumSpace I just wanted to provide a little followup to this question. I tried nudging the view using the hand controller. As the evening progressed, it seemed to me that the accuracy of my Stellarium commanded GOTOs became progressively worse. It did help a little bit to restart and reconnect Stellarium every once in a while. I was working with my AVX/Meade SCT 10" telescope that was reduced to a camera (ASI224) field of view of about .44 degrees. Perhaps the weight of the scope and the narrow field of view were factors. I look forward to using my st80 on the AVX (1.4 degrees fov). Once again, thanks for the helpful videos.
Hi Jay, missed this one. Sorry for not responding sooner. I do not own a virtuoso mount, but stumbled on this link: sourceforge.net/projects/driverazgoto/ My Portugese is not so great but if i understand correctly, this is a driver to control your mount from a pc of laptop. Hope this helps! Cheers.
Problem. I get Stellarium to control my scope once. Then I have to delete the Telescope 1 in the Telescope plugin and create a new one. That one then works only one time. Help, please.
@Ernst Marais you could try to connect using ASCOM. You'll first need to install the correct ascom driver for your cgem. Next, choose that ASCOM driver in stellarium to setup your mount. See here, I use a different mount but it should also work for your cgem with the correct driver.
@@AstroForumSpace I tried that but I am somewhat computer challenged. Would it be possible for you to have a look at my setup via Teamviewer and (talk) Whatsup?
