Thank you for your videos! I've started to spruce up my backyard and your instructions are so clear and helpful. I also live in the Phoenix area and was in particular curious to see how someone would secure it to a block fence.

Glad it helped. Here is another video that I attached string lights to a block wall in a different way (on the inside this time). This one may help too. Thanks for watching! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iE7fO1tEuvI.html

Great video...finally someone shows how to connect to a pole.....also, regarding the martin jerry plugs....do I need alexa to use these? can i just download the app and use from my iPhone?
@how2q
@how2q 4 года назад
You do not need an alexa for this (it's just an option). Download the app and use. Like I mentioned, I had already installed Jerry Martin Switches for my outdoor lights so it made sense to use there plugs.

I appreciate and enjoy your videos. I am newly single at 46 and have my own place that you are helping me with. I'm Australian, so have conversion tables at the ready. Thanks for the independence, particularly with the wall mount tv instructions. My Dad was impressed ha ha

What size of drill bit did you used? 1/2 concrete drill bit? Thanks
@how2q

Sorry for the late reply but yes it is a half inch concrete drill bit. You can get them pretty cheap

So I bought the Martin Jerry Wifi plug as you listed and for some reason when I power off the lights they still stay on at a very lowlight, but they are still on. Can you please tell me why? So far no one has answered me from Martin Jerry. My cafe lights are from Costco and they are brand new. Thank you.
@how2q

There might be some power getting through plug even though it is “off”. Try a lamp with a normal bulb on same plug. Leds have a very low power threshold meaning they can “light” w a very small amount of power. I’m wondering if the plug is defective. Sorry this is happening. I am using a couple plugs currently that all work fine.

@@how2q You nailed it. It's the LED bulbs "glowing" from the tiny amount of current that flows through the wifi plug, even when it is "off". The plug needs this tiny amount of current at all times so that it can stay connected to the network and respond to commands. I first experienced this issue with some LED xmas string lights and an X10 lamp modules years ago, when LED xmas lights were first hitting the market. I was using C-9 style, LED replacement bulbs in my old, incandescent light string. I found that, if I replaced one of the LED bulbs on the string with an old incandescent, the filament in that bulb would "absorb" the tiny amount of current making its way through the X10 lamp module such that the LED bulbs, as well as the single, incandescent, wouldn't glow when the X10 module was off.

Thank you for the video - quick question, You said your lights were not LED, but the box you show on the video says G40 Global LED String Lights. So did you go with LED or not? Thank you, JD
@how2q
@how2q 3 года назад
They are not LED. Good catch. My wife likes the G40 “softer light glow”🤣 her words not mine.

I too live in the Phoenix area. Used your original video to hand the lights 2 years a go. Just rehung my lights using this method. It beats digging for a post. I had to attached aluminum post on inside of wall, as the other side is my neighbor's yard. It's a 6' aluminum bar with 2.5' above a six foot wall. When I went to tighten the line the aluminum post bent. I want to lessen the droop. Are the lights in the video lighter than traditional outdoor bulbs? Any suggestions on a sturdier post?

In the same area of depot or lowes there is other “metal” options...honestly 2x4 (possibly painted) would work. Just attached to wall

Hi there. I’ll be hanging lights for the first time and was wondering if I really must use a support wire. Does it make a huge difference. Thanks so much
@how2q
@how2q 3 года назад
Quick answer…no. Wire is nice for long runs with less sag in line. Good luck

Is it OK to connect 2 strings manually since mine are not connect able?
@how2q
@how2q 3 года назад
I would not recommend mixing lights and definitely not splicing them together. Best to have matched sets that are approved to be connected (there is a limitation on most lights as to how many you can connect together)

Which is brighter these or the other brand of string lights in your other video?
@how2q
@how2q 3 года назад
I would say the others are brighter. I will say these are still my favorites. Ease of wire attachment and low profile stick out.

Hi! Thanks so much for your videos! I was wondering how you would recommend hanging these lights from a sail canopy shade?
@how2q
@how2q 4 года назад
I would run wire between "fisheye's" that the sail is attached too. I would use LED's due to heat that incandescent lights put out. It all can depend on your setup. Hope that helps.

Thanks for this whole series of videos. I was able to get 100 ft of string lights hung between an aluminum sheet metal patio cover, a concrete wall, and a stucco-sided house this month. It looks sharp now. I was a bit lost initially which is what led me to your videos to begin with.
@how2q
@how2q 3 года назад
Glad they helped! Quick question, did you use self tapping screws into the metal patio? Or how did you attach to the patio?
@jaykass
@jaykass 3 года назад
@@how2q I labored over this for far too long but I went with self-tapping sheet metal screws. Seems to be holding well.

Whats the best height to hang the lights?
@how2q
@how2q 4 года назад
In this video I hung them between 8' 1/2" and 9' 1/2" high. It all really depends. My stepson is about 6'3" so I needed them to at least clear his height. A lot of times you may need to base it on what your working with (or what you are attaching them too. One of the reasons I used the lights in this video is the profile of the wire and the light together were pretty small. I've used lights in other videos that were longer. Hope that all helps!
