Thanks so much for the video tutorial which was very helpful and well composed! I run strips of masking tape for all the quilting lines ( X, vertical and perimeter) then sewed next to the edge of the tape. You were able to sew these areas effortlessly, but I needed a guideline and didn't have a fabric pen. So pleased with the process and product - thanks again!
Thank you so much for this lovely pattern and very clear video. I plan on making a few to gift to my church brunch lady friends, we will all be bringing our casseroles with our cozies!
Firstly, thank you for your introduction e-mail to your blog that I received... Wonderful to read all about you and your family. Thank you also for this beautiful FREE pattern and video tutorial which was introduced in your letter... These will make lovely Christmas gifts for my daughters, daughters-in-law, grand-daughters and friends... So exited to get started as Christmas will be here before we can blink an eye...
@@TheBirchCottage I would love to get the pattern also, but cannot find where to download the pattern. I have been to your website and your blog, but all I can find is a picture of the pattern not the pattern itself. Thank you.

I have been searching high and low for this pattern that would fit a 9" X 13" casserole dish. Thank you very much for your generosity for the tutorial and FREE pattern. This is a unique cozy! I cannot wait to make it.
Happy sewing! Julie, be sure after you print out the pattern and tape the pieces together, that you verify it's the correct size for your particular casserole dish. You may need to make adjustments to the width or length of the pattern to fit properly. If you do need to make adjustments, be sure to do so from the middle of the pieces. Good luck!!
Awesome tutorial and great pattern! I was looking for a casserole cozy, and I’m glad I found your tutorial. I was just at my son’s house for Christmas brunch and you know that hot green bean casserole you can never pass around, well now we can! Thank you so much for the FREE pattern. God bless and stay safe.
WOOHOO! I finally got it to print correctly and made one this evening. Turned out great. I'm so happy I can make them now. I'll be making the square one also. You mentioned in the last email I got this week that you had changed a service at one point and I used those instructions and it printed out perfectly. The last part where you sew around the bottom of the finished cozy is a bit of a pain for me but will get easier and I think finishes it off perfectly!
@@TheBirchCottage Made the 8x8 last night. They were my prototypes. The insulbright was a lot easier to sew thru than I thought it would be, just assumed it would be denser than it was.
THANK YOU many times over! I have seen the kit version of this and tried to figure out for myself how to make the pattern. Nope. So happy I looked again for someone to have done the brain work for me. I really want to make these for a Christmas craft show this year. I've made many bowl cozies and even figured out a larger deeper version for the hubby to put his ice cream carton in while he eats. Doesn't use a bowl....
Thank you for the pattern and tutorial, made it in no time and fits my dish perfectly. I used Insul Bright on the bottom layer and Wrap N Zap on the top layer.
Thank you for this pattern. When you were sewing the perimeter ( Quilting all layers together) was your measurement 2 1/2 inches down from the outer edge? I would like to make as Christmas gifts this year. I just bought this pattern from your Etsy shop. Thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing this pattern. Great instructions. I am 60 years old and bought my first sewing machine during Covid and I am loving it but I am still very green. so I'm not sure what stitching you did at the end. Can you explain a little more? I haven't picked up quilting yet but it's on my "next to learn" list. Thank you again.
I believe you’re asking about the topstitching I did at the end. I think the stitching gives the cozy more structure. Basically, I stitched an outline of the bottom of the casserole dish. If you can imagine a line going from corner to corner around the cozy, this is where I stitched. I hope this helps!
@@cynthianegrete5067 not quite. I did topstitch around the top, which also closed the opening. The "X" you see on the cozy was stitched when I adhered the interfacing to the fabric pieces and before the two pieces of fabric were stitched together.
Is this pattern still available? I'd love to make this. Your tutorial was wonderful, thank you! Love your pattern weights, too. I subscribed but didn't receive an email with the pattern. I can see the instructions on line but don't know how to print the templates. Would appreciate help, if you can. Thanks so much.
Yes, this pattern is still available. You just need to fill out the form on the blog post page requesting the pattern and it will be emailed to you. If you still don't receive it, just email me at pam@thebirchcottage.com.
I love this pattern, it goes together perfectly. I have a couple of questions. I made my first one following the written instructions that came with the pattern. The written instructions say to use a 3/8 seam allowance (even on the darts) This one was very tight and I really had to work with it to get it to fit the dish. This I watched the You tube video and you said to use a 1/4 SA. This one fits much better. Another question is; do you put the cozy on the dish and bake the casserole in the over with the cozy on or are you only supposed to put the cozy on after the dish is baked and removed from the over.
I have seen the cozy both with a 3/8” and a 1/4” seam. And I do like the fit with the 1/4” better. You do not put the cozy in the oven. Once you remove your dish from the oven, you can place it in the cozy. Hope this helps!
I am a visual learner and I appreciate your video tutorial. I also love the longer handles. I'm going to definitely make both sizes. I have a couple of birthdays and weddings coming up and these will make a perfect and unique gifts! (You wouldn't happen to have a pattern for a 11"x15" baking dish/pan size, too, would you?!? :) Thank you for sharing your talent and time!
Thanks, Tina! Although I don’t have a pattern for an 11”x15” casserole dish. You can easily modify this pattern. I would add 2” to the pattern from the middle. So, 2” longer and 2” wider. Cut the pattern out on paper, tape the pieces together and see if it will fit your dish. Then you can make any needed adjustments. Hope this helps!
thanks so much for the free pattern and detailed written tutorial and video. I was wondering, and likely making it harder that it should be, but can you shrink the pattern a tiny bit and print a pattern to cut the batting from in the smaller size? I don't have any idea if this is possible but would appreciate your help if possible
Rita, you definitely can. I would fold the pattern lengths or and width wise from the center. So if you wanted it 1/2” smaller to allow for 1/4” seam allowance, then find the center and fold 1/4” on each side of center. Hope this helps!
Hi Pam, this cozy is a wonderful item and I have made several of them but I’m really struggling with the final step of quilting the layers together. Mine usually gets bunched up somewhere along the lines. Is there a trick to make it without it bunching? You make it look so easy. Thanks again for your pattern and videos! Kristine

You really have 3 choices: Cotton Batting A 100% cotton and microwave safe batting, like Pellon’s Wrap-N-Zap Cotton Quilt Batting is a great choice. And my recommendation! Insul Fleece If you’re not familiar with Insul Fleece, it consists of hollow, polyester fibers needle-punched through a nonwoven substrate and through a reflective metalized poly film. The needled material is breathable and won’t break down with washing. The hollow fibers resist conduction while the reflective metalized poly film resists radiant energy. The energy, hot or cold, is reflected back to its source. NOTE: This fill is heat resistant not heat proof. Machine wash and tumble dry. I also recommend that if you’re going to use the Insul Fleece that you also add a layer of cotton batting. Be sure to read the manufacturer’s instructions. Fusible Fleece Although not my first choice, you can certainly use fusible fleece in your Casserole Dish Cozy. I like to use HeatnBond Fusible Fleece in my projects. Having said that, most of the casserole cozies I made had one layer of Insulbrite and one layer of cotton batting. Hope this helps!

Great video. Got the free pattern downloaded, cut out 3 to make, one for myself, 2 for gifts. Made mine first, and guess what? Doesn’t fit! I have 2 9x13 pans and doesn’t fit either. I even cut the fabric a little larger to make sure there was plenty. Yes, I only took 1/4” seams. 😭😐. Well I have 2 more cutouts, but not gonna waste time making them. Too bad bc it’s really easy to follow. 😢
Patty, I’m so sorry it didn’t fit. I have three 9x13 casserole dishes, all 3 are the same brand, but one is slightly larger than the other two. So when I made the pattern, I specifically made it to fit the two I had that were the same size. Very frustrating for you, I’m sure. You may want to print out the full pattern, tape it together, and verify that it fits your dish. Then you can make alterations to the pattern to fit your particular dish.

I would print out the pattern pieces. Tape pieces A and C together and then wrap around your dish to see what adjustments you need to make. Adjustments should be made from the center of the pattern. So if you need to make the pattern smaller, fold the pattern accordingly at the center.

I need a pattern for a shallow pasta dish/bowl. I got size but when I do darts it ends up looking like a cereal bowl size . I need help! Bowl measures 9 3/4” across 1 1/4 deep
Hi, Carol. To make your pattern. I would start by measuring the bottom of the bowl. Draw a circle this size. Then measure up the sides from the edge of the bottom circle. Then extend your circle out to this measurement. You should now have two circles. Cut out along the markings for the largest circle. File the circle in half and in half again. Unfold. Cut slits along the fold lines down to the smaller circle. You should have 4 slots cut. Overlap the dots an even distance. For example, each 1-3/4”. You can use pins or tape to hold in place. Place the bowl inside to check your measurements. Adjust the slits accordingly. If your sits overlapped by 1” (for example), draw a line down each side of the slit 1/2” from the edge. Trim song these marked lines for each of the slits. Again, place the bowl inside the paper pattern to check fit and adjust as necessary. Once your paper pattern fits your bowl as needed, you just need to allow for your seam allowance. If you’re using 1/2” seam allowance, then add 1/2” all the way around your pattern. I hope this helps!
Great question! I don’t have a pattern. Basically, I start out with a magic circle and then crochet in rounds, using most double crochet stitches. Because every rock is shaped a little differently, it’s really hard to use a set pattern. Just crochet in rounds and when your round covers the top half of your rock, start decreasing rows. I literally insert the rock into the crocheted “doily” and crochet around it once I start decreasing rows. I hope this helps!
@TheBirchCottage thank you so much! I kinda figured that was the case. I was hoping there was come magic formula. Hehe he. I am new to your Chanel and have been enjoying it very much. Thanks again!

Your instructions say 1/2 yd which is 18" yet when all 3 pieces are taped together, it measures 22". Or maybe I am placing it the wrong direction. I will try that
Yes. It totally depends on which direction you layout the fabric. If you are using directional fabric, please take that into consideration and purchase your fabric accordingly.
@@TheBirchCottage I’m hoping your pattern will work because another tutorial I was following. It just drove me crazy. The darts were not the right size or angle. OK! So the pattern does NOT print correctly. It will not print out the pattern pieces so you can cut and tape them together. A couple of people commented on it back in December and she gave the google link and it still won't work. Now comments are closed so you can't even tell her that it still doesn't work. I ended up paying for the pattern since the free download did not work for me ~ The cozy turned out really nice ~EXCEPT my Pyrex 9X13" casserole did not fit !! Can not give as a gift as intended. It would have been embarrassing to have given it as a gift and then not have the 9X13 fit WHAT A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT . at least I tried putting the dish in before giving it and what a waste of beautiful Ice Dyed fabric ~ I am wondering if you will allow this comment....☹
Sharon, what an awful disappointment. The pattern was specifically designed for Anchor Hocking dishes. I state that in the pattern name, description, on The Birch Cottage blog, and in my RU-vid video.
