Hey, thank you this is very very helpful for me especially because I want to get into making my very own leotards. I just have a few questions, how do you know what patterns to use for sizes and patterns in general? Also is there a certain type of thread I should use? If I were to make straps in the back of a leotard would I use smaller elastic or something different? And last question, would the pattern be different if I were to do a strapy backor a belt? What would the pattern look like? Sorry if that was a lot of questions, again you have been extremely helpful with this process!

I’m so glad this was helpful! I will make some videos to help you just give me a little time. But to answer the best I can now… For patterns you kind of have to look online for a pattern you like. Some are free some cost money. You can also go to Joann fabrics. If there is something you don’t like about the pattern you can always change/manipulate it. The best type of thread is a woolly nylon thread (it is in my Amazon store front) but it is pretty pricey. There are dupes but YLI is the best. There are a couple ways to do straps (that I know of). The best way to also learn is to take apart old leos to see how they are made. And yes there are different patterns for different types of leos. Hope this helps for now. I’ll try and post ASAP :)

Love this video! A couple questions: 1. what settings do you set your serger to for elastic? 2. I didn’t know you could just end serger chains like that when serging stretch fabric without the thread unraveling. I have made many swimsuits before but I have grabbed the chain and tied it in a knot before cutting it- is that unnecessary? If so it would be so freeing to remove that step! It’s like my extra security and I’m worried that if I don’t completely seal it with a knot that it will come apart 3. If I don’t have a cover stitch I would just finish with a zig zag stitch- do you have a better rec? Loved this video learned a lot (many thing I have done when making swimsuits as a self taught sewer were affirmed which feels great😅. While I get a good end result it is stressful not knowing if I am missing some important detail of the sewing process). Thanks in advance for helping me tie up loose ends in my understanding of sewing! Pun intended

1. If you're talking about tension you kind of have to test it out until it's not pulling and laying flat. It can be tricky sometimes but just keep adjusting. 2. you don't need to tie off the serger thread because it hard for it to unravel and you will be doing a top stitch over it so it will be secured enough. SO yay one less step! I know that feeling lol 3.Zigzag is the best option. You could do 2 stretch stitch lines but it's VERY hard to get them even to look like a coverstitch and actually ends up looking worse. So glad you love the video! And glad you're doing well at making swimsuits!

Thanks!! I’m gonna try it without tying a knot 😅 thanks for responding you helped to fill a gap in my sewing knowledge which is so appreciate. One day I’ll have time for classes but that day is not today. Also studied your pull over video with my 7 year old who needs to improve that skill before she levels up. I did ballet not gymnastics so it was helpful for both of us!

If you have an elastic foot for your serger, does that change this method?
@coach_christa
@coach_christa Год назад
I've never tried, but I feel like it would be harder. I'm not sure if you can get the elastic in the foot when the elastic is sewn together. If you can then this could possibly work.
