Love all you videos, you are an angel, you explain so simple, so clearly, and you allow People to love sewing . God continúe to bless you and your family. Love you honey. Keep up the good work.
Anita, I want to make this skirt with all of the options-- belt, invisible zipper, etc. I've been a sewer for many years, but I do enjoy your precise instructions and your attention to detail.
You were one of the first people I watched on RU-vid when I decided on a whim to start sewing and dusted off my dad's old machine and I cannot tell you how inspiring your videos have been to me since then. You have an amazing gift for teaching and I still come back to your videos for refreshers or little tips and tricks. Thank you ❤
This was an excellent tutorial! You are so detailed and exquisite when you are teaching step by step. You are so thorough!! I really appreciate that! 😊 Thank you, Anita!
Great tutorial. I watched to see how you attach the lining at the zipper. I like your method. You’re a great teacher and I like the fact that you do a good job and don’t just rush through without even using an iron. 😄
Anita, I love how enthusiastic and encouraging you are when presenting, and then when you get down to the technical information you are very calm and thorough. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us!
I. LOVE. YOU. THANK YOU SO, SO MUCH!! I am sewing this exact same skirt for an online sewing class. Coming up on the deadline, and I was so stuck!! YOU ARE A LIFESAVER
I was at my local Joann's today hunting for a pencil skirt pattern and come upon that same pattern! It was not a great day to shop, here before the holidays (crazy store). After the New Year, I'm grabbing that pattern and some cool fabric and knocking this one off. Thank you for your instructions! You must be a teacher, uh? Good communicator. Thank you!
Thank you Anita, for this very good tutorial. I have learned a lot from it. I saw your post on the pattern review site and you look fantastic in this skirt.
❤️😁❤️😁❤️ This was SO much fun!! It was a great refresher for me, especially invisible zippers! Also, I think it is the coolest thing that I now have a sewing machine with a button hole maker! I'm 57 now, but I still have the machine I got for Christmas when I was 14 😁 and it did NOT. It has a wheel to choose the stitches: left, right and ends, but I had to follow my markings on the fabric. By golly I had to do some accurate marking! 🤣🤣 I also just watched what you made in 2019, I believe, where you rocked the plaid? I still CRINGE thinking about the outfit my aunt had me make her that was a dark red plaid and I had no idea about matching plaids! But she loved that outfit! She had me make a lot of her clothes. That really made me feel good😊 I was just thinking during this about how you adjust your patterns to fit your shape. I had no idea about that back when I was making my clothes. You have definitely given me ideas! You see, my problem is directly OPPOSITE yours. I am straight up and down like a popsicle with two sticks for legs. My waist is the same size as my hips!! 🤣😄😂😄🤣 I've weighed 190lbs and I've weighed 130lbs. It doesn't matter. (Right now I'm 152😁) SO you think I should get a pattern size to fit my waist and then draw down to the size that goes with my hips? That's also why I have a hard time buying slacks off the rack. If I get a size to fit my waist, it's huge on me around my bum AND legs. I have back problems: 2 surgeries and a spinal cord stimulator, looking at a possible third. Being basically in a recliner for 12 years made my weight go up, but having the stimulator has allowed me to be more mobile and lose weight. HOWEVER, I have lost a LOT of muscle in my legs and now they are pitifully skinny. I'm in physical therapy working on leg strength so we'll get them back in shape!!😁 I used to hike up and down mountains! I'm looking forward to doing it again! I can't wait to need to make myself a pair of hiking shorts that the legs zip off making shorts, Lord willing!! I love watching you and getting all excited about making clothes again!! I've been browsing patterns like mad!! 🤣😄😂😄🤣 Welp, I've talked your 👀 off! 💡💡💡 You know what, just an idea💡💡💡 I'm generally a size 14-16 off the rack depending. I wonder if you have any friends of a generous or curvy or different shapes? It would be really AWESOME to see you make patterns that aren't so form fitting, but more for them and have them style them! What do you think??
Hi Rhonda! So, about the pattern alteration suggestion to accommodate your shape. Yes, what you have mentioned should work just fine. That's the beauty about sewing our own clothes. We get to adjust them to fit our unique bodies. About sewing for my friends, I am TOTALLY; selfish when it comes to my sewing (being honest).
Audrey Bell Yeah, I always show the pattern. I thought I had included it until I watched the video. It was too late to go back then. You can click on link in description box to see pattern.
Anita, thank you for a wonderful tutorial. I was good up until it was time to sew the lining to the vent. I hemmed both- the lining and the skirt (very detailed instructions on that. Thanks!) but then did not see how to attach sides of the skirt vent to the lining. Did I miss something? Thank you.
Very detailed tutorial, I love it, thanks. One question the lining is not attached to the seam of the vent area, I was wondering, will the lining not shift when walking?
Love this video. Question(s): how can the skirt be modified not to have a pleat? Next, can the skirt be modified not to have the belt loops? Thanks much
Yes, absolutely. You can just skip the steps for the belt loops. When cutting the skirt, just remove the extension for the pleat and just sew a slit because you'll need it in order to walk in the skirt.
This was a fantastic video. I just bought the pattern after watching your video. I do have one question as I'm pretty new at sewing...what kind of interfacing did you use for this skirt? Thank you so much and God bless you!
Anita...fast questions...this is just what I've seen so far....lol. 1) you did not use an invisible zipper foot, did you? 2) when you did the bar tack on the zipper, did you change presser feet? Thanks
Great questions Lynette! My zipper foot that came with the Baby Lock works for both regular and invisible zippers. I highly recommend using an invisible zipper foot, but you can do it without if you don't have one. You just have to be careful that you don't sew too close to the zipper teeth. Yes, I changed back to the regular presser foot to Make the bar tack.
I stumbled across this video a month or so ago and loved the pattern and your excellent tutorial so much that I ordered the pattern and some nice wool mix fabric. Started it yesterday and pieces cut out and ready to sew. Can you please answer a couple of questions? Did you interface both sides of the belt or just one? And there is a piece in the pattern called 7 Guide C but I have no idea what it’s for! It doesn’t show in the fabric layouts to cut it.
Hi Lorna! Yes, I interfaced both sides of the belt. Piece 7 is a guide for belting, that's a material that is used to insert inside the belt for stability. Since I didn't find the belting width I needed, I used interfacing to stabilize the fabric instead and omitted the belting piece. I hope this helps.
Anita by Design thanks so much Anita! Yes this really helps. That piece 7 was puzzling me. Loving your tutorial. I’m following along and my skirt is coming together beautifully. Can’t wait to wear it 😊
On this skirt pattern can you change the front with regular darts instead of the squares that’s bringing large dot to small darts for a smoother front this pattern is 8004 mc call’s
Can someone PLEASE help me? I am following the tutorial and it is excellent. I am stuck! My fabric is a thicker dark-colored plaid. How do I transfer the markings as they are not showing up sufficiently? Also, for the front piece which has the pleats, how do I transfer the markings to the underside? Should I remove the pattern piece (flip), pin it to the other side, and mark it? Thanks to anyone who can provide insights in this regard?
Hi Rhonda. You can use thread to transfer your markings. It's called tailor tacks or thread tracing. Thread your needle and hand sew through the pattern and fabric, creating a few strands of thread in one spot. Look up tailor tacks on RU-vid. I hope this helps.
@@rhondacrowder7469 Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry that I forgot to include the link. Here it is: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qm0zivFKqqc.htmlsi=D2VamqzjSk-b_6vc
