Hi Sue, Thank you for your lessons, they are perfect for a beginner, so clear and organized. And the way you lay out the tools and your graphics for the fabric measurements make everything easy to understand and to remember. I am looking forward to many inspiring videos.
Hi I'm Janet from Sheffield Yorkshire, I really enjoyed watching your tutorial, you have just tought me how to finish off my pouches and bags professionally. Many thanks x
I absolutely loved this tutorial. I made a zipper bag last night but didn’t know about the zipper tabs. I love these. You are a GREAT Instructor. Thank You
I haven’t made one yet, I’m going out to buy some fabric. I love the colours you’ve used and the colours zips give a nice look. Thank you I love your videos and I have subscribed 👍🇦🇺
This is such a quick and easy technique to make lined zipper bags. They finish neat and clean on the inside and look professional. Thanks for the great tutorial!
Thank you for a great video -- clear, well organized, easy to follow. For a few years (since I first viewed this) I've made dozens and dozens of bags. Watching the video again, I discovered forgotten the tip about using clips rather than pins and a few other fine points. It is time for me to reclaim those fine points, including ironing at various steps.
This a great video showing the zipper tabs, lining, and the way you showed to make the zipper element shorter than the lining and front piece. Really awesome!
I enjoyed your wonderful video, it was clear and very understandable... THANK YOU!! :) I greatly appreciate that the background music was NOT LOUD like a lot of videos :D
Thank you so much! I'm now married to the man who gave that Bee ring to me, you should look at my most recent videos to see the ring, it's hexagon, since we love Bees :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--OQ1_Lt3PkU.html
I have been making these using your tutorial for about a year now. I like to sew in a food safe PUL lining to the lining fabric, so that they can be used as wet bags for baby gifts or sandwich bags for easy leftovers or lunches for housewarming/Christmas or birthday gifts!
Great zipper pouch. I love my clips. I like the tabs at each end of the zipper. Stiletto and That Purple Thang are like an extra extended finger. Thanks for the video. Happy Easter.
@@SookieSews thanks for kindly asking , actually I am very interesting about sewing about mask , for little purse like that I just don’t know how to put lining inside until see your video I am so happy , yes I am very interesting crossing purse too . Sorry my English still limit but I still understand your instruction very clear , will see more video from you thanks and take care
Thanks for sharing your technique and how to make a zippered bag! I have bought all the supplies, but wasn’t quite sure how to do the zipper, I think I can do it after seeing your video! You inspire me! I subscribed to your site, I don’t want to miss any of your future tutorials! Thanks!
Wonderful! I am planning to do another zipper bag tutorial so stay tuned :) Thank you for subscribing. It means so much to me to have you want to see the next videos.
I’ve been sewing things for years on an as-needed basis, but have always avoided anything with zippers because I didn’t fully understand how to sew them. I’ve watched other instructional videos and still got lost. Yours was the only one I’ve seen that actually makes me want to sew something with a zipper! Thank you so much for your excellent descriptions. 😊
Hi Sookie.....you are one of my favs. I'm looking through this video, and I see that I gave it a thumbs up, but can't see that I made a comment. I'm making my older sister a 6 pocket tote bag. It's a "just because I love you bag". No special occasion. I want to add this zipper bag out of the same material as the tote. Do you have any other suggestions that I can put inside the bag? I was thinking a key chain too. Not sure what else. Looking forward to making this pouch. Thank you so much!
Hi Sue! I love your video and the bag is so cute. The contrasting colors are perfect. One question about the zipper ends. I have been struggling with scrunched zipper ends that don’t look so nice. Did I understand correctly at the end of your video that there are tiny openings? It looked like your tool was going through the corners. Is that intentional? I am trying to figure out if you sewed only the fabric or also the very end of the zipper tape too. Would another option be to make the zipper tab extend past the zipper tape so you can catch it in the seam too? This issue of not-so-pretty zipper ends is plaguing me! 🤣Thanks so much.
One of the best zipper pouch tutorials I’ve seen. You are a great teacher. 💗 Team Bernina too! Just replaced my B350 for B475QE. How are you making your presser foot go down (hands free) at the beginning of a row? Thank you! 🌵❤️🎄
I am making a small bag for my granddaughter and the fabric pieces are cut 9 x 6. I want the zipper installed along the 6” side as I will be folding the long piece in half. What size should I cut the zipper to? In your video you cut your zipper 8.5” to fit a 10” fabric piece. So, does that mean in every case the zipper should be cut 1.5” shorter than the fabric? Would that be the rule of thumb?
Rule of thumb would be based on the seam allowance. If the seam allowance is 1/2" then you'd want the zipper 1" to 1-1/2" shorter. That way the little ends line up with the seam at the top. Hope this helps.
Hi, I’m not sure if you’ll get this message, but what if I’m using a closed bottom zipper where there are metal ends? Do I measure my zipper from end to end or the length of the fabric? Surrounding the zipper?
Hope this helps. The zipper being metal will only make the difference since you will not be able to stitch over it easily, so go easy. I'd make the zipper the same length as the nylon coil.
When you say “top stitch” are you referring to only sewing the outside (not the lining) to the zipper seam allowance? If yes, then you’ll be ok. But if you “top stitch” through all layers (including the lining) then it will give you issues. I personally don’t “top stitch” since I think it looks more professional when it’s finished. Hope this makes sense
@@SookieSews Thank you i was worried about that, topstitching just prevent the lining caught up in the zip, first time i could get it right with the tabs, just need some more exercise because i still have a litte gap between tabs and side seams when you turn bag inside out, i want the the side seams stitching right next to tab but i will practice ...
Oh got it! That tiny gap you’re talking about is note likely the seam allowance. Just make sure it’s exactly perfect right there and you should be ok. But I wanted to tell you that I’ve seen hundreds of finished bags from RU-vid followers since this video posted and I have seen the top stitching from the zipper to the outside. I’ve also seen it on the zipper seam allowance and the LINING! So that might help you out too! I’d consider that more “stay stitching” but no mater why it’s called , it might just do the trick! Do share a photo with me on social media. You can tag me at @sookiesews
These are pretty. I didn't do doubled lined bags because I was using felt and just did the felt folded over. Could this be a bad thing if I want it to last longer than half a year or so? Thanks for the tips! 🤗❤️👍🏾💯
In order for it to be “lined” you’d want “two layers”. I’m order to follow this tutorial you’ll need two. My video doesn’t show how to make a single layer zipper bag.
7:16 Sorry, as a newbie to sewing im confused what you did lol. Did you put outside lining face down on your outside lining and put your lining facing up underneath it? Or is your outside piece on the back? Im very confused and havent made anything yet with my machine, ive just learnt how to thread it lol. Are you using interfacing? Why do people use it and some dont? Ps ive subscribed
Outside and lining are facing one another (right sides together). Pause and take it one step at a time. Go for it! What’s the worse that could happen? Just get stitching :)
Sorry about that. There is no code for me any longer, that was a limited time, my apologies. Can you please show me the layers instead of clicking you fingers as I’ve been hrs. trying to get this right thankfully I will be able to get it. It’s taken me 5 hrs. and not achieving anything..thank you so much. You’re a beautiful sewer. Christine.
It is way too fast and I can also not figure out the layers at 07:20 when all 4 layers of fabric and the zip is together Is it inner outer outer inner or inner outer inner outer?
