Agreed! I've recently been doing my own alterations to some clothes and I want to learn to make stuff from scratch eventually (though I'm a long way off). This hat looks like a great place to start on something relatively small and simple and a bit more forgiving. Agreed on the size reduction as the original one was giving me landschneckt vibes, the 28cm looks far better fitting. I'm going to try to get the materials to make it seeing as I'm being paid to stay at home for 2 months, then I suppose I'll have to buy your book and go from there, I'd like to make my own 20s style waistcoast eventually but I don't want to get ahead of myself just yet.

Well, next up are spats, a deerstalker and an Inverness cape. But maybe a waistcoat might follow after thar.

Thanks this looks like fun. I plan to sew one (when I get done sewing masks) I was a bit confused when you referred to the "peak" which later I saw was the brim. I'm not sure if this is a difference between British English and American English. However, there is a big difference between "smother" and "smoother." Smother is to stop someone from breathing by covering the mouth (ersticken). You might want to update that text on the screen. I'm going to try to make a hat with felt for the lining. Mach's gut!

I'm so jealous of all the gorgeous suiting fabric you wear. Does fabric like this have to be dry cleaned, or can you get away with putting it in the washing machine on delicate and then drying on a clothes rack?
@Vintagebursche
@Vintagebursche 2 года назад
I don't ever put wool (except knitwear) in the washing machine. Usually I just air and steam my wool garments. If there is a proper stain, I take them to the dry cleaners. You loose all the great wool wax if you wash or dry clean it too often.

It looks like your issue with cutting the leather isn't that you have the wrong tool but that your knife isn't nearly sharp enough. I mean, there are actual leather cutting knives but I've been fine with a sharp boxcutter for years.
