Make a circle skirt with a waistband and invisible zipper in any size! Blog post with picture tutorial, more info (including how to measure) and links here: mellysews.com/... Rolled Hem post here:mellysews.com/...
Thank you for the tutorial Melly! I am just starting out in sewing. When you finish the center back seam with the serger, do you simply overlock the edge of the fabric or is your serger cutting and overlocking?
Not Melly here but, I would finish the edges and press open. Depending on you desired results, type of fabric, etc. I don't have a serger so that's a consideration too.
This is a very good tutorial for a one-piece circle skirt with a waistband and zipper, which works great for nondirectional fabrics. But I'm really interested in using a directional print to make a circle skirt, and I also want it to have pockets. So I think what I need is to cut the circle into six gores and lay out a paper pattern carefully on the print to get the pattern to sit right. I have literally never seen any RU-vidr showing this technique, but I think the world really needs to see it. Would you make a video like that? Please? Pretty please? I'm so tired of wonky striped or upside-down directional print circle skirts.
I don't have plans to make a tutorial like that, but you could just cut a circle skirt out of paper, fold the paper into 6ths to find the size of one gore, and then add seam allowances to that gore.
