Going down the grit on sandpaper will razor sharpen your chisels too. I sometimes do that for my friends as they do not have the stones,and i have not brought my own with me. I like wet & dry paper works like a charm & cleans like a charm.

Thank you Joe stripping does really make a difference i use chromium oxide polishing compound on leather never tried in my jeans years ago i used to strike a match on my jeans thought it was cool! Happy Woodworking David

Hi Leonardo Nice to see you here again thanks for your question .The “hole” in the hammer head is oval and and larger on the side you need to put the wedge .knock in the wedge across the narrow part of the oval i hope this is clear if not let me know best wishes David

Hi Dan its oil I don’t use oil stones anymore i use water stones and diamond plates which also need water The fluid is so the metal particles wash away and don’t clog up the stone

Hi ,Thanks for your feedback.A light oil is recommended, I didn’t have any I generally sharpen with diamond plates and Japanese water stones and dont have need for oil so I took engine oil for my car and thinned it with turpentine its not the first time I have done that,I didn’t always have the water stones and made do with what I had including engine oil! If its to thick it’s hard to hone the tool sort of “floats” above the stone thin it until the tool contacts the stone and the metal dust can wash away with the oil.having said all that the video is meant as a starting point with granddads old stones up grade slowly as you can afford it to diamond plates they are amazing!!! Hi Anton i used sand paper to flatten the stone so I can sharpen chisels and blades flat. If the stone is not flat the edge you are sharpening will take the shape of the stone I hope that answers your question Happy Woodworking David
