why draw the file backward?

I've always focused on one directional filing to build up the burr, but I hadn't considered the pull vs push of the file. After 2 hours of reading, I'd say you shouldn't. Files are meant to cut in the push direction. I cut with this saw in the pull direction, so I incorrectly mirrored it with the file. You, sir, have helped me get better today. I cannot tell you how grateful I am for your question.
