Some updated information: Trading resets the egg cycle (one cycle is 256 steps) so you can bring them down to the last 256 or less and be good to go and also NOT have to worry about the eggs eventually running out of steps and hatching before you can trade. This also means we do not need to trade a flame body Pokémon, flame body halves the amount of egg cycles not egg steps but if you’re on the last cycle it does not benefit. This saves time by removing that trade. Also Japanese D/P are the fastest games for doing this. I’ve also been told (although have not personally tested) that if you only do 4 eggs it is faster because it reduces your entries to the union room and reduces trades per reset. Someone told me they managed 16/hour doing this. If you guys get new information by testing things please let me know and I’ll try to update this!
Late but I'm currently doing this hunt. Every video of this hunt I see shows them using the summary page to check. I would assume it would also appear shiny in the PC as well? I am hunting on 4 DS' with 20 eggs, and I have been using the box to check cause you can scroll through them faster and also swap Pokemon after checking. Also thanks a ton on the egg cycle info. That should save me a ton of time
Master Penquin Unless you're streaming/recording the whole thing because then you can just go up to other shiny hunters and be like "You caught 20 shinies this week? Well guess what, i have a legit shiny manaphy"
lol yeah but as a shiny hunter, its actually a shiny that feels more like a waste of time than actual satisfaction, maybe for the hunter.. but I mean.. look at it :P all that time for a slightly lighter blue colour.. I shiny hunt pokemon that are a slightly different tint, but I wouldn't spend THAT much time for one
Master Penquin for me, and many other hunters, the hunting method is worth the shiny hunt just as much as the shiny. The fact that no one has done this legitimately yet is reason enough to hunt it for me at least
Great explanation for this super confusing hunt. Because of the difficult nature of this, I've declared it too unreasonable for me to do and I just traded for a questionable shiny Manaphy.
Actually you can get even more eggs and faster than that if you use an R4. If you beat pokemon ranger and save before recieving an egg, before getting the egg, you should save the SAV. data into your computer and after getting and sending the egg, instead of beating the game again you put your micro SD into your computer and overwright the current save data with the one you just saved in your pc, that way you don´t need to beat the game again. This is often used to clone pokemon in generations 4 and 5.

Well, if you really wanted to cheat since you are using an R4 you can just put a cheat to make the manaphy shiny. If you put yourself into doing this, you are still having to deal with a 1 in 8192 chances of hatching the shiny, not to mention moving an egg through 3 different games is still a very long a tedious process if you compare it to just doing random encounters. If you go through all this i feel like you really earn it, even more than people that hunt in newer games and/or using methods to lower the odds, but i suppose everyone has different thoughts and feels different about this subject.
TheGaboefects I wouldn't have any problems with it, it would be a good choice to save time. But take the guy who hacked in Manaphy eggs and traded them across games and then released them and hacked in more eggs. That's practically the same thing, genning in an egg without working for it. Yeah he did put in work to get his shiny Manaphy and it couldn't have been easy still, but people still don't believe he did it right and he hasn't really even gotten credit in the community for getting it
well would it not be more legit if you don't use a r4 and just erase the data on a real copy? by that i mean a tool like r4i save dongle that can export the saves of real DS games and just have it nuke the pokemon ranger. or a homebrew app on a 3ds to just nuck the save as well. pokemon ranger is a trash game so 100000% legit manaphy is not worth it. or just pay someone to beat that trash game for you
as somebody who shiny hunted manaphy; the recommended amount of eggs to use in the hunt is 4, not 5. the reason for this is because in generation 4, to be able to do a trade, you need at least two pokemon in your party that aren't eggs. so it's much more efficient to go about the hunt with 4 per batch, rather than 5.
This hunt is insane.. but manaphy is one of my fav Pokémon.. hopefully in another game there will be way to hunt manaphy again, like an in game event to get the manaphy egg.

"Somewhat unethical"? I don't think that a game that only give one item and that is it forever is fully well though. It is like in Pokemon (not Rangers), you failed to capture a legendary, and no matter if you reset, it is gone forever, and the game is doomed.
See that’s the thing, ethics vary person to person. I don’t have a problem with it but some might. Also it’s totally different, manaphy is a mythical not legendary. It’s supposed to be super rare and nearly impossible to obtain.
You also can use a tool that lets you flash saves onto DS cartridges or a CFW 3DS to flash saves onto DS carts and use only one copy of Pokemon ranger multiple times. Either of these two options I believe to be the cheapest and most legal way of going about dealing with this. Cause if you have a way to legally dump your own Pokémon ranger Rom to use on the R4 then you likely can just keep reflashing the cart with the proper save files to endlessly get these eggs. And I realise this video is old but I believe even then these two methods I mentioned were available in some capacity. And if you weren’t aware you can no longer get the egg legitimately without flashing someone else’s save file at this point in time so you will have to do some kind of flashing as finding a cart that hasn’t had the egg used yet is almost impossible unfortunately. Hopefully this info can help someone else since this was all a pain for me to figure out.
I’m going the 3DS CFW route in an attempt soon. I have a legit copy of shadows of almia with an egg so I just backed up my save and got several eggs. Now I just need to set aside some days to trade between my DP and HGSS games. Any extra eggs at the end will be removed.
I hunt shinies but the only mythicals I'm actually going to hunt for are: Mew (Possibly as it is difficult to obtain a shiny transferable mew in gen 1) Celebi (Coin case glitch) Darkrai (Void Glitch) Shaymin (same as Darkrai) And maybe Arceus (can be encountered with the void glitch but unlike Darkrai and Shaymin you can't save before encountering it so it takes way longer) As well as any shiny mythicals released later down the line. But Manaphy it would be extremely difficult for me to get my hand on even one pokemon ranger game and even then this is still near impossible.
Shiny Samurott so are you against cheating devices? Because some of these can be obtained by better/easier means if you're okay with a cheating device as just part of the set up. And yeah as for Manaphy it's the same odds as Darkrai, Shaymin, etc. just takes more time
There is a way to get Arceus with the void glitch/tweaking. I've tried it, made it to Arceus twice, but my game froze. There's a team that knows how to do it though; it's been a while since I tried again.
I'm attempting this myself for ISHC, even tho I probably won't get it in time before the competition ends. Really tedious, but it'll be worth it once u finally get it, so whoever hunts this, no matter what, don't give up, that shiny manaphy will come eventually! c:
How exactly is the "Manaphy egg" flag stored in the Ranger save data? Is it possible to overwrite the save on an actual cartridge through external tools, then have it give another Manaphy?

This will only work up until a certain point. When you exit the union room, you need to walk one step to the left in order to talk to the lady to get back in. Therefore, after approximately 2000 cycles of creating new games, your eggs will start hatching while trying to go back into the union room.
Ketchup901 that would be true if manaphy took 2000 steps, however it’s closer to 10,000 so even with flame body it’s a little over 5000 cycles assuming 4 eggs to maximize cycles, that’s 20,000 eggs. Or if you opt out of flame body more than 40,000 eggs. Plenty for a shiny.
Are you sure it's 10000? All internet sources I can find says it's 10 egg cycles or around 2500 steps. Of course you could circumvent it by having a throwaway egg with one step remaining, preventing the Manaphy eggs from hatching since only one egg can hatch per step.
Ketchup901 oh you’re right, I confused its cycle with manaphy. However, you can just go put them in the box and save, then take them out and hatch each time to set back its cycle a bit because of how the gen 4 egg mechanics work
I attempted this hunt a while back. I got tired of taking forever just to hatch the eggs, so I tried to get smart and put some steps onto the eggs before trading them to my hunting games.... this didn't work and I ended up hatching all of the eggs without being able to trade them anymore because the eggs only had 1 step left to hatch
a french youtuber was speaking about a "buffer egg" for this hunt, because when you've checked all of your manaphy eggs on a game, you must walk one step to enter in the union room to trade them in another game, so it can happen that you loose one of the eggs. The buffer egg is here to hatch before the manaphy eggs and prevent you from loosing an egg (I'm sorry if the explanation is a little bit confused, it's hard to explain it even in french 😅)
I just learned about this today after doing the DNS exploit for two manaphy eggs. One’s already hatched but I’m using the other to shiny hunt. I bet it would take months to find the shiny, but I’m motivated to try lol
I noticed you mentioned something about the egg cycles and not needing to trade a flame body pokemon, but how can you tell when youre on the final egg cycle? Also, if I were to trade two manaphy eggs to Diamond, and one hatched shiny on Pearl, would they both hatch shiny or do they gain completely different values to make them unique? I plan on doing this hunt soon with 2-3 eggs I've managed to accumulate so I want to make sure I have everything set solid before I do
Something worth mentioning here is that if you fully reset the save data of any Pokémon Ranger game using CFW, you can get another Manaphy egg. Don't waste the money.
Currently planning out a route for a shiny living dex in gen 4, this is probably going to take the most time out of all of the pokemon I've routed so far. It would be interesting to see if you could do same rng manipulation to get a specific tid/sid combo for the egg consistently. Edit: It is possible!
Another easy way to see if a ranger copy has the egg is to go to an old video game store and if they have Pokémon ranger you can ask to test the game (works for me every time I’m looking for games, they usually allow you to test them) then you check if it’s already been redeemed off of ranger net, if it has, too bad. If it hasn’t, you’re pretty lucky (this is how I got mine)
When you're deleting a save file on the gen 4 games, the second you hit accept and it tells you not to turn off the power, I always did and it deleted the file and I never had any issues with it. Instead of waiting, just turn it off
txferretgirl well keep in mind it will only work for that specific egg, you can't keep send eggs to it and hatching them and they'll all be shiny. Each egg has a different personality value
I've restarted my ranger game several times to get new eggs and it's worked so far? I just have to beat the game which only takes me about 5-6 hours so i can get 1-2 eggs in a day without using a cheating device if i'm really trying. Is this a glitch or is it actually possible to get multiple eggs from one game?
So would this manaphy actually make it into the new generation, because poke transporter has a lot of checks for the legitimacy of pokemon. I used tweaking glitches to get darkrai and arceus in pearl, and poke transporter stopped both of them from moving to gen 6. Furthermore, Nintendo stopped all shiny jirachis because sooooooo many of them are hacked however they fixed that. Even if the manaphy is obtained totally legitimately, because this is such a complicated method, poke transporter may see it as hacked and stop it. dyou know if that'll happen?
I just spent...about 2 hours finishing my old Ranger Copy I had from 2012. Surprisingly it had a Manaphy egg in it and I am hesitant to go about this especially since I have one egg and probably aren't getting anymore
you can also use a jailbroken 3ds and TWL to delete saves as well instead of using an R4. What I did was get the event, beat the mission (I was playing shadows btw) and then get to the transfer screen. Then I made a save state using Checkpoint and then transferred the egg. Then I wiped the game using TWL and then rebooted the save file using Checkpoint. This works for me
Well I'm not too worried since most of my life I've been told I'm a patient kid, so I think I might actually have a shot at getting that shiny Manaphy even tho it barely changes in the first place lol

G Lyon slowly, but that’ll take thousands of cycles, and if you do sets of 4 or so, you’ll be at about 40,000 before that, and will most likely get the shiny first
So i just wanna make sure i understand. Once the egg is transferred, you trade it, and once it's traded and you hatch it, the file that hatched the egg can just bd soft resetted and then it can be traded to a new game save? I don't thinm i would ever attempt this hunt but with how weird of a hunt it is my brain is having trouble wrapping my head around it
@@bigsalmon7973 no you pretty much got it! Basically the eggs have a value that determine if it’s shiny. A shiny value. That value is matched to the trainer to see if their values make the egg shiny. The game that original gets the egg will not match this value. But if you trade it to a new game, that other trainer does not have the same limitation, so the shiny values could match. You hatch & check, then if they’re not shiny soft reset to unhatch them. Send it to another new save to cross check with that save’s shiny values… rinse & repeat.
You can completely erase the Ranger save file from one cartridge and reset it over and over instead of buying 10. Resetting the save data like that requires external tools, though.
@@enoyna1001 Personally I used TWLSaveTool on 3DS, but I'd imagine that there are other methods that will work. From what I recall, Checkpoint doesn't reset the egg for some reason. Please do not quote me on this.
Late to the party, but would it be faster to transfer a new batch of 10 eggs from the Ranger games instead of trading the existing eggs to a new save file? I'm under the assumption that you can transfer multiple eggs to the same save file.
Each ranger copy can only give 1 egg, even if you start a new save on it, there’s literally 1 egg per existing Ranger. Also, it’s shiny locked on the game that originally gets the egg, so even if it worked that way, it would be impossible due to shiny lock

Or just rng The egg, get a flawless egg, check his PID (pokemon ID number) rng a NEW game 4gen fin to match ID /SID, transfer The egg and boom, shiny manaphy, check smogon for more info, un less than a hour you can get a 31 all 6ivs shiny manaphy
If I send the eggs to my platinum. Then trade them to HG and delete my save on platinum and trade them back once I get to the point of being able to trade them back on a new platinum save file, will it then never hatch shiny?
Giran Strasky it can be shiny on it if you delete the save. It isn’t marked by game on that, it’s by the trainer shiny values. It’s still much better between Sinnoh games though. Johto games take much longer to get where you can trade
Okay thanks, I wont hunt it on my johto games but my HG is the only free game (no hunts atm) I got RN so will use that only as a middle game RN to get it working... Will hatch the eggs on there too ofcourse maybe Im lucky but not deleting that file ;)
"Somewhat unethical" Uh, not really? The unethical part is Rangers being how it is, 1 per save makes sense, but 1 only, nah. Unethical. Plus, can't you just use a 3ds, and something like TWLSaveTool to wipe *all* save data, the .sav itself, from an actual copy of Rangers?
I’m looking for a new Pokemon Ranger game to get the manaphy egg. I started looking at Amazon and see that the games arent pricy as expected, but I do wanna know if they have the egg or not. That’s the tricky part.
Im doing this with five manaphy eggs all from separate ranger games and I think its easier to cycle the eggs between three different games instead of two. You can trade half to one game and hatch then trade those to the third game while trading the second half to the second game then cycle through. I wish I had 8 eggs so I can do the most out of the three games but I am not going to buy 3 more ranger games and play through them.
The domiNATION if you don't mind checking how long it takes for a full cycle of that from starting a new game until hatching all the eggs, I would really appreciate it!
ShinyCollector98 I'll have to time how long it takes for one trade first. I know it takes about 20 minutes to get a game ready to trade. All I would have to do is see how long it takes to do the five trades between the three games. The reason I think three is faster is because you will have one game to restart at all times without having to trade back and fourth in order to make sure you dont delete some of your eggs. I'll let you know how long it takes to do one of my cycles of five eggs.
question: with the r4 method, if i save the .sav file from after completing the game and before transfering the manaphy, if i replace it for the one after transfering the manaphy, will it be the exact same egg?

I think that just means you can get multiple eggs, but not sure if they are the same.
3rd method: fastest method. Have pokemon platnium rom from a site that has cheats already on it. Use the shiny cheat. Use the event manaphy cheat. Receive the manaphy egg from delivery man and hatch the shiny manaphy. I've done this.

The personality value stays the same right? So could one could use RNG manip to get their TID and SID to match the known shiny value of a Manaphy to get a shiny. But at that point one might as well hack to get the shiny I guess ._.
Yes it’s personality value is constant. Yeah you could RNG manip your info while creating a save but it’s probably easier, and doesn’t require you to start a new save, to RNG manip the manaphy egg. It’s just not quite hunting at that point
Thats odd because i used a site called pokegtsdns and got the manaphy egg from random and it took forever to hatch and when it did it was shiny due to my lack of knowledge on shinies i thought jt was supposed to look like that
I just realized, peoples keep saying "pokemon ranger" , do you actually need the first game or do you need shadows of almia? Looking at the box art for ranger, it looks like it only contains up to gen 3 mons, so it seems weird that it would be the one to give you a 4g mon
If the Manaphy Egg's shininess is determined by your Trainer & Secret IDs, couldn't you use RNG Manip to ensure you get IDs that generate a shiny? I'd understand if people think that's unethical, but would it work?

I know this tutorial's a year and a half old, but wouldn't it be faster if instead of trading over the Magmar + 10 new eggs, you get the eggs extremely close to hatching and then transfer them over before they hatch?
Starlogy yeah until you get to the point where you hatch them each on accident before you go back into the trade room. If you get them all super close to hatching you have a lot fewer Resets you can do, then you need to start a few new ranger plays to restock eggs
No but if you’re trying to do all that you could just wipe the R4 save? Just as legitimate at that point. Or you could wipe the save with custom firmware 3DS

It's Nep well that’s a WiFi only event, so for legitimacy that’s not an option and DNS servers are not legit. Also DNS servers either didn’t exist or no one knew of them when I made this video years ago

I know this is way late, but there is a easier way to get Manaphy. All you really need is the sequel games of Pokemon Ranger (Shadows of Almia and Guardian Signs) that had downloaded those 'Special Missions' (they stick around even if you delete the save file). With Shadows of Almia, all you have to do is play through the game till you become a Pokemon Ranger (which shouldn't take long I don't think), play the Special Mission, and bam, you get the egg. With Guardian Signs, you have to play up till after the 'Sunken UFO' mission, which I recalled, is a bit longer. Even if they don't have the Special Missions, I sure it's nothing a AR can fix. I know it may be cheating, but with the alternative being buying and selling Pokemon Ranger games until you get lucky, I think people aren't going to give you a hard time. But if you do have them, then good for you, all you have to do is get the egg, reset, speedrun to a certain point, get the egg, rinse and repeat.
Yeah you can actually get it on Almia still through DNS WiFi server exploits, I was just thinking about that a couple days ago. Although if you’re going to AR to activate an event you could also AR to get the egg to send more than once for OG ranger. I was mostly just trying to make an “aa legitimate as possible” guide, and finding a copy with those older events is rough. Buying and reselling works but yeah also rough

Let me see if I understand this correctly. If I were to obtain Manaphy eggs in HG/SS and Platinum, I could trade all 3 eggs into Pearl, save the game before hatching the eggs, hatch those eggs, then reset and trade the eggs back into one of the HG/SS/Pt games before creating a fresh file in Pearl and doing it all over again? Does that mean you don't need to generate a new egg every time you're unsuccessful? Is the number of Ranger games that people keep talking about just a method of increasing the number of Manaphy's hatched per save file? I would appreciate any kind of clarification from someone out there.
Yes, exactly that, 10 is more or less the number of mons you can catch at that point in the new game, so to speed things up you transfer 10 eggs each time. But unless you are against RNG manipulation I wouldn't use this method at all. You can RNG manipulate the egg's PID knowing the TID/SID from the other game (which usually involves catching a shiny in that game to begin with) or (even better, but more difficult) RNG manipulate the TID/SID in the other game, which may be slower and more difficult, but you end up with a new save with known TID/SID (great to keep using RNG manipulation) and a shiny starter. That way you don't need to buy 10 games or use an external device (R4).
so how about creating a backup of the save file from the rangers game and just replacing the old one after each trade of the egg? or will it always give the egg the same values? or is it generating them as soon as the game is started or whatever?
Can't I just walk with the eggs so long until it takes only one step for them to hatch and than save and trade it to the other game? So I don't have to walk hours and hours every time
There's a mistake. In the beginning you said that the way most people think is legitimate, the egg has 0% chance of being shiny. That's not true. It's true if you only trade the egg to one copy, since the Manaphy egg is programmed to, when it enters your game, have an egg ID that will never be shiny. If you trade it to another game after transferring it from Pokémon Ranger to your main copy, it will have a 1/8192 chance of being shiny since the trainer ID is different on that copy. *EDIT:* Just watched the rest of the video where you literally explained all this X3 Well, most people still know, that if you attempt to hunt it, you have to trade it to another game.
Stufful I thought so too, but you'd be surprised how many people actually didn't know you can hunt it like this. There was a popular video that said it's hunted by just playing ranger each time, and people took that as truth and it got very quickly widespread.
I am confused by on step. Lets say I get one egg, trade it to another Diamond/Pearl and hatch it there. Can I soft reset to try and hatch it again? Or do I have to trade it to another Diamond/Pearl game?
I never really heard the importance of the 10 eggs. Can’t you just get one egg and save before hatching if it isnt shiny you just sr and trade it to the other game and repeat with new saves till it shines? I am thinking of doing it this way but with only one game making new saves because I dont wanna start my plat over. I only have soul silver and that. Hope you see this
the ten eggs is just faster to hunt than 1 egg. You can do that but trading it back and forth will start to take a while. HGSS are much more playtime to get to the point when you can trade and you have more encounters in the wild that can be uncatchable shinies. If you do it your way, it would probably take about an hour to hour and a half for just one egg. with 1/8192 this could take up to 12288 hours to hit odds, at which point you're not even guaranteed a shiny yet. You can do it other ways, but I made this video to show the best way, the most time efficient way. The way in the video would take about 751 hours to hit odds. It's still a lot, but it is MUCH better.
kingdomheartsguy the best, and only way. The only slight variations for it are maybe using other gen 4 games. Also I meant to say picking Chimchar was the better option, but I forgot that part
So i recently picked up a used copy or pokemon ranger. Ofc i reset the old save file without putting too much thought into it. Now i realise manaphy is a thing, and i looked into it a bit. I dont remember the home screen from my predecessor, but i do know there is no ranger net option for me. Does this mean the manaphy is still available?
This is just a random question that is semi-related to this, but let's say one buys an R4 and puts a game on it and uses it to hunt legitimately, without using the R4 cheating device. Is this looked down upon by hunters?
My only justification is that gen 4 and gen 5 games (especially HG/SS) are rather expensive nowadays, but now that I think about it, emulation in general is kinda looked down upon.
CursedM most people are ok with it, but a lot of people don't really know what it is and think you just cheat using it. I have no problems with it. That one is just a matter of opinion
I see. There are ways to prove that no cheats were used, actually. You can just go into the cheats menu of a specific game and show that cheats are disabled, I guess. but yeah, it does come down to opinion. Thanks!
