I asked devin about that, and yes, some shoe shiners use a homemade liquid made of shampoo hair conditioner mixed with leftover shine product and soap! Many cool tricks they like to keep secret! Where I get my haircut and shaves in NYC they provide shoe shines as well as manicures and pedicures. Lots of shine spots near Wall Street. Before COVID I got my shoes shined 2-3 times a week. Pro tip most shine guys do not wear a tie because it gets in the way. Bow Tie or no tie. Also, shoe should be cleaned with saddle soap, then a colored cream then a wax. Liquid color on the edges.
