I like what he said about coaching youth on shorter rims. I was giving a basketball lesson the other day to a child who barely had the strength to get the ball up to the rim. It was extremely hard to teach him good form and run through fundamental drills on a 10-foot hoop, which was the only one available.
I watched this video after getting cut from my junior varsity team and went straight to the gym and put up shots every night. He really motivated me. I made the team next year and was so good I even got a D1 scholarship. Even got drafted to the league!!! My name is Michael Jordan
michael jordan actually never got cut from his team. he just didn’t make varsity as a freshman, but ended up getting moved up to varsity a few games into the season anyways. stay woke 👁
This guy tells the viewers the surface stuff 6:17 "the best way to get time on your shot is to come off screens"...wrong, the best way to get time is to be a screen setter. The screen will always be open, either on a dive to they basket or the step out. Why? Because defenders always react to the person coming off the screen, never to the person setting the screen. I always teach players pick, dive, step out and pick
The best thing he said was the different size rims for kids, I remember being 7 practicing basketball on a Nba regulation rim I’m short af weak and have to chuck the shit out the ball just to get it near the basket
So he is saying (1) take more shots inside the arc, (2) keep your elbow in, (3) believe you'll make the shot, (4) have a consistent focus point (the center of the basket), (5) have shorter hoops and smaller balls for kids, (6) come off multiple screens to get a shot off, (7) anyone can become a good shooter (not borne out by experience). But in real games, everything changes once there is actually a good defender guarding you and you can't just expect to be open off a screen all the time. Then you need some improvisation to get off your shot.
I think he's saying start learning to shoot inside the arc and move your way out. Too many kids want to start at the 3pt line. It blows my mind that it's possible for some shooters in college to have such bad mechanics in 2019. Watch a video on how Kawhi used to shoot at SD State, he threw the ball like he was inbounding a soccer ball. Chip England gets a lot of credit for fixing his shot (debatable because Kawhi was drafted before the lockout and did a lot of the work on his own), but basically he improved his mechanics and stopped heaving the ball from behind his head. It was a tiny change, but lead to him being able to shoot. How his coaches at SD State didn't see that is beyond me.
Man this guy used to come every summer to Gary Williams basketball camp. The fact that he can make these many shots in a session WHILE speaking is insane. I went every summer from age 7 to age 18. It was the highlight of my summer. Hope all is well Dave. Thanks for the memories.
-Balance lower body lead to balance top body -dont use shoulder to push only wrist and fingers -swing ball from low to arc shot high -tip toe only dont use knee or thigh -swing legs out like sitting down -top body never leans or twist
I was at the Jim Calhoun basketball camp and he was there. He gave us a speech on shooting and as he was giving the speech he was shooting and he didn't miss once. He had to atleast shoot 100 shots
i think any critics of this guy might be kind of... close-minded to say the least. it should be obvious to anyone with two brain cells that shooting the basketball and playing the sport of basketball are two very different things. anyone can be as good a shooter as this guy, just put in the time and do it right. but there's a reason there are only about 500 people on earth at any given moment that can be good enough for the nba.
Its actually great to see how many people say feet squared is wrong because of proshot, they've changed shooting in a good way and passed the message on to millions of people.
I grew up with Dave. He is in the NBA as shooting coach for the Knicks. It may be why he looks tired because of the NBA travel. He owns the record for NBA 3s in a minute from the top of the key!!!
Actually you do shoot with one hand you just notice it if you shoot with both hands your guide hand will get in the way and you'd miss, you dont shoot with both your guide hand and your shooting hand.
sorry to bother u, but have you heard about release like klay thompson where the pinkie, ring, middle finger goes down like a fist and the thumb goes to the index finger? like this: fansided.com/2014/01/03/nba-trade-rumors-sacramento-kings-interested-warriors-klay-thompson/
@@shaqtinoah But just imagine if he learned the right machanics. He sure would of had a higher FG percentage. My shot was a little similar to his & someone saw my jumper, worked with me & now my mid range has improved so much.
Except...Steph doesn't exactly have the textbook form that Klay has, and is considered one of the greatest shooters ever. So what gives with his theory?
I’m trying to be respectful here but you are your description of the shot is woefully in adequate I’m older than you and I’m a better shooter than you you have serious weaknesses in your technique in your set up.
