Dude, youre so incredibly inspiring! Your concept of MicroFilms has totally changed my approach to filmmaking. Before I would dwell on ideas forever until eventually giving up. But now I get a simple idea/joke, a visual effect i haven't tried before, and I DO IT! And its always super fun... shocking right ;)

How to write and shoot a film in one minute? Let’s talk about that.

I have decided to make atleast 10 one minute films by 2017 and this video couldn't have come at a better time.

Overall, I thought the micro-film worked well. IMO the female character's goal/request was pretty clear. Sound didn't distract me as it was consistent in quality. Dialogue and performance felt natural. My only issue with the micro-film was the pacing of the edits. It wasn't consistent. You started off with a bunch quick coverage and cuts that didn't really add anything to the story, then it goes into one wide shot for almost 45seconds, then it goes back to a bunch of coverage and cuts, then back to one wide shot for another like 45 seconds, then into a jarring and shaky cellphone POV shot when the rest of the film was static. I know you stated that there weren't any additional coverage in the wide shot dialogue scene, so one way the problem could be solved is by simply using less cuts/coverage in the other moments.

i wish there was a love button for the stuff you put out here! This is exactly what I needed to get off my butt and just do SOMETHING original. thank you!

2 hours is insane. More seriously a short per week would be feasible for those who have the time. I would love to see you present a theme and have your film-maker viewers present short films in a week. Never mind, that would likely spiral out of control exponentially and quickly fill up RU-vid servers, possibly collapsing the universe as we know it.

Sage advice for budding filmmakers/artists of any form! Advice that is easily heard and understood, but not always truly taken to heart. That is, until mastery of something is broken down into small, manageable goals. Strange how the simplest, most easily attained objectives can seem so daunting at times... Thank you @D4Darious for being source of knowledge and inspiration in this ocean of RU-vid videos. I'm sure I'm not alone in this sentiment.

Another tip to simplify things: don’t pan dialogue audio. Keep it centred and use convolution reverbs with stereo ambience if you want to fit the sound picture.

Darious, these shorts are incredibly helpful. These videos you are making right here are exactly the type I want to make, instructional. I have been writing scripts and "framing" the first few episodes, but not really started filming yet. Any advice for writing script and framing shots for instructional videos? BTW, this not the account my videos are posted under.

Haven't been to your channel in a while. I am considering doing a short on actual film. Idea bank is empty. Remembered DBrit. Forgot how inspirational you are man. Seriously your filmmaking instincts for a spur of the moment film are on point!

So there's a local indie film collective/theatre that is super awesome. They ran an intro to filmmaking course that taught one aspect of filmmaking each week, and at the end we had 3 hours to shoot a short film with professional actors and our classmates as crew! Going against D4's advice here I made a sci-fi film, but it was one consisting of a single conversation in a single location. Even though I spend about an hour spreading wires and random machinery everywhere (cyberpunk hooray) I was still able to shoot the whole thing in the remaining time. And it turned out pretty good for a first project! Loved this video, microprojects are definitely an awesome way to learn. Not that I've really followed through on making more, keep getting hung up trying to plan something more ambitious. But you really can bash out something in a couple hours that won't be too bad and you'll likely learn a lot in the process.

invaluable advice. I had to learn this through mistakes of my own. I once lost two lots of footage on a day and eventually had to make up a scene, sequence and action in 2 hours

Actually shot my first ever microfilm in August with my kids, partly inspired by hearing you talk about this in past videos... then you published this video today, and it made me want to send you the link to my short... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QTNxJ1ZInkM.html it has issues, but as you say here, it's all about the practice... shot all the footage in about 3 hours one afternoon... mostly worked on shot composition, and to see if I could actually shoot a short from concept to finish. Yeah, getting good sound is hard for me still, lol... Anyways, thanks again for posting all of these videos...

By sharing these micro films you are exposing use to a wonderful inside look of film making. The key word is practice till you can't practice no more then, practice some more! Maybe you could put out some more micro films and have an open forum for honest feedback. What am I saying??? Honest feedback on an open forum??!!! Well that would be an interesting idea for a micro film. (maybe honest feedback from a closed forum) (like an invite only group) ....

How are you able to get the Actors to feel comfortable doing a questionable scene. Such as having a Guy dance on another...

I have a general question for anyone that wants to answer. When it comes to cinematic projection, what is the minimal resolutions that audiences would accept. 1080P? 4k? If one were to shoot a film with the hopes of entering it in film festivals, how would that change the shooting format?
