I would be interested in a video where you break down the planing phase before shooting a project. Like, how do you prepare your shotlist, organize locations or choose props. Great video!
First off, this looks absurdly brilliant. Second, your talent gave 110%, I have yet to see a fitness video where a female was giving it this much effort, that’s what I really enjoyed about this 41 second video. Your work is valuable and so are you.
I can't believe that i came across this channel till today, just awesome, thank you sir you are really learning us with all the explanations. Now lets go watching all the videos.
I've never seen someone work so hard in the gym yet not a bead of sweat??!! Grab the spritzer next time J! lol :) Great vid bro, keep up the good work.
That lady packs a punch! Great video again. I am not a pro, just enjoying learning a few things for what has developed into a hobby of mine, but I really appreciate the sharing of knowledge here. Thanks!
Great breakdown Jacques! I personally used mostly handheld on my fitness videos as well; it just gives it that extra "umph" and energy needed for fitness vids.
love the sound design part. and you are right about making your own sound effect as par the need.. this just cut down half the time spent on searching for the perfect ones
Could you go into detail regarding your camera settings on the Sony in this low light situation to avoid grain? How are you exposing? Are you blowing out the lights in the background? Would love to see your exposure on the back of your camera. Thank you for these videos, I've learned a TON from you.!!!
Thanks man, so glad to hear that! I try to expose for the highlights as much as possible because with the Phantom LUTs you don't have to overexpose but as for low noise I try to stick to the Native ISO and only push it up if I really have to.
Really a very good breakdown of this awesome shooting Jacques 👏 thanks a lot for the bts what brings us filmmakers so much inspiration 🙏 best cinematic greetings from a small german RU-vid filmmaker 😂
As a beginner this is quite overwhelming but amazing at the same time. very inspiring What would you do if the only light that you have is a key light ( no smoke or leds)
Nice tutorial Jacques!! Thank you so much. Can you please mention which were the frame rates, ISO always on 12800? And picture profile used? Thank you in advance.
very interesting. lighting comes quickly expensive when we want to start making video. I would be interested to see in your tutos how you setup sony camera and use AF or MF...
From your experiences, how do you recommend the A7IV over the A7S3? especially regarding the high ISO performance. Thanks. Great work btw, like always.
Thanks Maman! Honestly I would still choose the A7sIII in almost every other situation but the A7IV performs well at 3200 which I shot a lot at in this video, where the A7sIII performs better at 12800 and higher
@@jacques_crafford question if you dont mind when do you ever find yourself shooting at 12800 im stuck in between buying the a7iv or the a7siii only because of the iso situation
Thank you for your detailed explanation. I would like to know how to write scripts and shooting scenes for each shooting, and I really want to know how to write a whole set of procedures! Thank you very much
Thank you so much!! So good to learn from your videos 🙏🏼❤️ Also would be interested in the settings that you used for this shoot on your Sony a7iv. Like what ISO max to avoid noise?
Thanks Maik, you are most kind! So glad you find it valuable. I'll see what I can do, for now I have found the A7IV to be maxing out at 3200 but I still try to stock as close to 800 as I can at all times!
Thank you so much! For the gym, I got the contact from a friend, they were super accommodating but we had to shoot after hours when it was empty, so worth it though!
My question is how bright do you normally have your key light? I know it changes depending on situation/angle/distance from subject, but I’m having a hard time getting the entire subject lit in a dark place without being too bright on the face or muscle focused on
Hey Jacques, you are one of my favorites on RU-vid. I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on getting proper color balance and Custom color balance on the FX3. I have been been shooting for over 30 years and still learn from you. I am more of a Director but film myself a lot. Sometimes I have trouble getting proper white balance on the fly with my FX3 due to my inexperience trying to do it on the fly on a shoot. Thanks a lot
Thanks my friend! I hope to do one like that soon, just have to get a few other videos out first. I think White Balance is such an overlooked part of the process so totally worth it!
Your videos are amazing and you are very knowledgeable. I have some questions. Is there a reason or advantage to shooting this handheld without using a gimbal? Also, there is a question I have had for a while and haven't been able to get any answers. Maybe yu can shed some light. I have been looking at cinematic videos shot in flat profiles like slog or with Sony mirrorless cameras general. I see that even when everything is done right, like the lighting, the coloring, the exposure angles and movement... etc exceptionally well, most of the final video scenes always seem to be a little more blurry or more unfocused than I would have expected they would be, even though they may look so cinematic. If you are watching a show on Netflix, or TV (I'm in USA) or a Hollywood movie, there have that sharpness and detail, like their camera is truly in focus on the person or object, and yes they use much more expensive cameras but I don't think should be the cause of this particular observation. Focusing is easier than the other accomplishments of these cameras or cinematographers, I would think. Have you noticed that, and do you see what I am saying? Could it be that the less-expensive camera has trouble with executing a low depth of field choice without a tradeoff in sharpness? I see the same with your videos and other talented filmmakers... and you are an expert so I wonder if you see this and know what I am talking about with insights as to why...
Compare with you I am still beginner. But I hope one day I can create just like you did. I don’t have not much equipment but I will try my best. Last week I was filmed music video with hand held style. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KkpH-D5Yglc.html. Can you please suggestions for me?
Excellent breakdown Jacques, very much enjoyed the video. It was an interesting perspective to see the Foley artist come in for the final sound design. Really adds to the overall immersion of the video! With regard to your white balance setting, are you keeping a custom white balance set at 5600K given that the key light is at 5600K and the Nanlite pavotubes are at 6300K? If you were working with a performer with darker skin tones, would you alter the custom white balance setting? Thanks!
Hey Jonathan! Apologies for the late reply, been traveling a bit. Thanks for your kind words. To answer your question, yes I mostly stuck to 5600K and I would stick to the same regardless of skintone.
Amazing video this and the final cut Jacques!. one quick question since I also own the a74. that part at second 0:39-0:40 of this video. when you tilting up and down. Did you used 60 frames or 24 in APS-C , I can see is really smooth and not ruined by the rolling shutter. Was it 60 frames and then make it a little faster or 24 on APS-C. Thank you so much in advance.
Thanks Yon! That shot was actually in 25FPS Full Frame, it really helps when the rig is a bit heavier. I didn't encounter any rolling shutter issues on this shoot although I know APS-C does perform better in that department!
