Very helpful thanks! Today was the last day of my 3-week Friday series of 2019 beauty favorites on my blog and most I had shot were in hard, direct sunlight. I love natural light and I wanted it to fit the summer theme so it was fun to play around. The whites were tricky though.

I'm so thankful you two ladies pointed out this true but overlooked fact that adding hard light photos to your portfolio will strengthen the portofolio and can easily be added without suddenly loosing the style you aim to showcase. It's a great idea! I'm really sorry I was a bit to late to the table to join the challenge since I was on holiday but I can't wait to go and watch the raplay of your review AND to test some of these ideas out for myself. One thing you can do when using hard light is to add shadows that come from outside the frame to add interest to your photos. Place objects between the light and subject area. Use clamps to hold the objects or wires/fishing line to suspend them. Or set up a sheet of glass outside the frame then affix items to it that will create interesting shadows. Think about colors... affix bits of color gels or ribbons to the sheet of glass to create soft areas of color. Terry Thomas... the photographer Atlanta, Georgia USA

In the shot at 7:22, how many light sources are there? Looks like 2 but not 2 shadows. The lone cupcake looks lite from top of screen and the rest looks like 10 or 20 degrees clockwise...? Or am I thinking wrong?

Hmmmm...not sure what you’re seeing. It was just the one light from the top of the frame and a bounce card at 9-o-clock
