Always enjoy and look forward to watching your videos Gavin! Learn something new every time!! Merry Christmas to you and Sam - hope Santa is good to you both!
Wonderful stuff Gavin! Excellent make up Chloe! And well done Sam!! I love how crafty and inventive Sam is with her props and styling. Her work really makes a huge difference to how the final images look!
Hi Jon. I'm using a TetherTools USB-2 cable to connect my Olympus camera to my Lenovo 2 in 1 Laptop. That runs Windows 10 and Olympus Capture takes care of the tethering. I hope that helps.
Gavin your a genius and fairplay to Sams DIY . Im sure Chloe was glad you didnt throw her into the freezer for this shoot ! stunning results. The candle works great to add that little warmth to emphasis the cold ! Fairplay all involved ! I wish you all a very happy christmas. best regards Pat.
Great video, very inspiring. I remember a few years ago I did winter photos in my garden on a sunny day with smoke and plenty of flour, but the idea with frosty glass is great. Thanks again.
Hi Darci. It was roughly some water and bit of washing up liquid and a dose of Epson Salts. I can't recall the exact amounts but (trade secret coming up) Sam found the recipe on a RU-vid video 😉
Videos like this & all your other videos are precisely why you have so many subscribers(myself included) & likes Gavin. Such imagination shown/shared & explained in laymans terms. Thanks for the awesome content as always 👍
Thanks for the freebie Gavin!! At first I was kinda critical (to myself, of course) of you doing the color toning in-camera because I didn't see why you wouldn't want to adjust the tones in post to be the way you wanted them. But if you're shooting RAW, you can still do that if you wanted to, plus there's something so satisfying and cool about seeing how much you can actually get exactly the way you want in-camera. Great episode!
Hi Daniel. You're spot on about the RAW re-editing option but I usually find getting it close in camera helps everyone on set visualise the final effect and that is a HUGE help!
Gavin you're the BEST teacher I've come across! Love this idea. I redid an image from one of your tutorials and it literally turned out just like you taught. I wish I could show you. I may try this one but how in the world did she get her makeup to be frosty like that? Also what are you tethered to on the side? Is it an iPad or tablet? Would love to add that tethering option to my studio but would love your input on what works best. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hi Susie. Super happy to hear you got some great results following along, that's exactly why I make these. I can't help with the make-up (that was all down to the amazing Chloe) but the tablet is my Lenovo Miix. It's a Windows 19 powered 2 in 1 laptop/tablet and I run Olympus Capture software to power the tethering.
Another great photo adventure, reminiscent of the "rainy day while you stay dry in the studio shoot!" Very inventive - kudos to Sam and Chloe for set design and makeup. Downloaded your textures plus the bkgds for flower images and signed up for your newsletter; don't know how I overlooked that before. All in all, a significant day in the life of this learning photographer thanks to you. Your videos are always the finest of RU-vid photographers. ⭐x5
Another great and creative video. Thank you. Instead of scraping off the "ice" which has a permanent effect, could you have put the window on a separate layer and used either a brush or mask to do the same thing?
Hi Christy. I'm using a TetherTools USB-2 cable to connect my Olympus camera to my Lenovo 2 in 1 Laptop. That runs Windows 10 and Olympus Capture takes care of the tethering. All very simple but also super reliable.
Man, I luv your tut's Gavin....so creative....I would mostly declare I would NEVER pay to do a workshop, but, if you offered those I would. You break everything down so simply without a bunch of unnecessary chatter.
Gavin, thanks for the great video. I tried your idea, using omd EM5 mk ii, for some reason when I changed the white balance around 3800, the shoot always turn out looks like 5500k. This happens when I turn on my xpro trigger. If the trigger off, the white balance shows correctly. Perhaps the trigger adjust the white balance automatically, any idea what happens? 🤔
By default some Olympus cameras set their white balance to 5600K when a flash (or transmitter) is attached. Go to Menu - Custom Menu - F to switch that feature off.
@@GavinHoey @cgpixol On the OMD5 Mkii Gavin is quite right only the function is in Custom, G near the bottom shows as "flash + WB" set this to off but just remember this will stop the automatic switching of WB to flash which is often a good feature to have.
Love how you break things down so simply and it makes me realize how a stepwise approach to my portraiture will help me to learn and improve. Thank you again Gavin and, of course, Chloe.
Sam followed a tutorial (on RU-vid of course) using a mixture of water, washing up liquid and epson salts. I believe she looked at them more as guidelines then actual rules.
Very good question Rick. The sole reason is to give me, my model and anyone else on set and fair idea of what the final edit will look like. As I'm tethering I generally try and show as close to the final edit as possible.
