It's fascinating how two people can have the exact same clips but because of the cameras and post production work, can come out with two very different results. I love your version, nostalgia, dreamy and a little warped. Very inspiring!
I love how director's get so much credit for their cinematographer's work haha. Christopher Doyle is the real creative mind behind light and camera. Great video though :)
You’re right and you’re wrong. Andthis exact mindset is what’s wrong with the filmmaking industry today. The producers and studios think the same way - let’s spend money on the DP, the actors and the writers yet we have more bad movies than good movies. The 40s, 70s and 90s are arguably the best decades for films in history and yet those were director driven decades. The producers/executives are worried about money while the crew are worried about their day to day tasks. It is the directors job to see the whole thing through, creatively. Sorry for the rant and no malice is intended whatsoever but I’ve just been seeing a lot of people on the net discrediting directors when it’s their medium!!!
Doyle’s style isn’t limited to WKW films and aesthetics, so it makes sense she is referring to the director as all his films have the same style, while referring to all Doyle’s wouldn’t make sense bc they vary in visual expression
You have no idea how much this helped me Megan!! I used to use excuses like "oh i dont have the good equipment for that" but with this video, I realised my digicam is literally a gem, I love the retro look that it gives! I cant wait to start filming and creating! Thank you for your videos, you're doing a wonderful job to show us how to film amazing things on low budget!!
The subway escalator scene is very powerful. Great lesson! I'll have to try it out🤣 I hope no one steals my phone when I'm filming myself😁 I also like the reflective scene. I guess shooting with a digicam means anyone can do it, right? Thank you for this very inspiring video!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Haha I was very excited about this would pan out. The short came out great and that little camera definitely has a distinctive look to it :) Thanks for bringing me on this little filmmaking adventure. I hope nobody caught a cold 😀
I love this idea. I want to try something like this one day. I would say the music doesn't match the video in the end, it's retro but it doesn't match the vibe of what's happening on screen
Megannnn I see you, great job🤩. The sliders shots in the beginning so so nice. I was thinking to myself wow , you’re so committed and you always go out of your way to make content to inspires us: people you don’t even know in persons. But you keep showing up and putting in the hardwork . Thanks for sharing, I appreciate you🎉❤️
I was looking for this a long time ago! All your videos help me out in so many ways and if I ever get successful in filmmaking I’ll always remember how you helped me out through so much, and if I do succeed hope you remember this comment cause I know I’ll remember all your advices and videos! 😿😿☝️
amazing video megan!!! I recently watched one of his films the fallen angel and the double exposure shots, the slow shutter speed look was amazing. great colouring too btwww!
I absolutely loved this video! You inspired me sm to start filming, something i love to do but i always am thinking it’s impossible due to my lack of skills and good camera materials. But i might try it more now
your videos are fantastic, and they never cease to amaze me every time; you have truly inspired me to continue learning more about film and do my own projects, thank you!
thank you sooooo much for this, you're literally amazing ilysm!! i do wanna ask how u can achieve that fallen angel + retro effect or does it come along w the camera?? pls tell mee
hiiii thanks so so much for this comment! i think the retro effect you're referring to is actually from the digicam itsself hahaah cuz it's sort of distorted and old looking-i hope you get what i mean
WKW Is amazing when they comes to vision of what do you want it to be? But let's give it up for Christopher Doyle, real quick. And the fact that that boy made it happen. I mean, say what you want, but there's A. Reason why The best? WKW Films are made by him. Bad boy right there.
I don't know if this is consider misdirection or misleading. You show the cheap cameras you got on EBay, and none of those shoot HD. When you show the elevator shot in the blue camera, it is fuzzy, out of focus, and the lighting is bad. but then...POOF. I guess some clean up with Davinci Resolve and something else it looks slightly better. Even in your Equipment listing on the page you list a Sony A7iii as your camera, and not the cheap one. what is the cheap cam you used, and could you shoot your next video with the cheap camera and no after effects editing?
Hi Danceddj2k2, I am more than happy to send you the raw footage from the digi cam if you want, personally. The final results were 100% shot on the digi cam and the only reason I put Sony a7iii in my description is because I use this camera normally and for the intro of this video. And the reason you thought it was not in focus, and had bad lighting was becasue when you look at the footage from the side of the digi cam the screen is darker and really hard to actually see the footage. Like I said more than happy to send you the raw footage I used for this
I think digicams are all pretty low priced if you get them second hand, like the one I got for 10$ is totally worth it, literally just got it off ebay and never looked back HAHAH
@@megantanart Check again I heard it 3 times to make sure before I commented about 8:19 8:20 mark on this video, as soon as the shot of you far away appears, you can hear him saying "Oh yeh".
At this point people are just throwing the name "wong kar wai" around. The Digicam doesn't help achieving it. Wong Kar Wai,or more like Christopher Doyle (the DoP) does not focus much on how the lighting equipment, but rather finding where the light looks good in a real location. So many shots are missing contexts and story. I think the escalator could have been good if you knew why WKW or Christopher love using escalators in the movies. Halas, the video lacks a bit of research and it's a shame, especially since you are making a tutorial.
Hi thanks so much for this comment. Yes you’re right, I should’ve done more research on this and I was actually expecting people to comment about me not mentioning the DOP. I didn’t mention him cuz more people on RU-vid for instance know WKW than Christoper Doyle that’s why I used that in the video. Christopher Doyle’s work is absolutely flawless though. Never the less thank you for the constructive criticism. I just wished you could have phrased it nicer or more polite. Thanks anyways.
