This is one, if not the best, videos that demonstrates lead. The calm and charismatic way Dave instructs is wonderful. After shooting for many years myself and working hard on my shooting line, bum, belly, beak, I had lost a little confidence in the amount of lead I should allow. This tutorial restored my confidence and made me a more consistent gun. Thank you Dave.

I am widow very new to shooting and I look forward to a pheasant shoot at Bettws Hall October 2019. Your videos have helped me imeasurably in every way, from what to wear to explaining the remarkable conservation efforts and benefit to the loacal economy that the shoots provide. And, your instructions on how much lead to give a bird, brilliant. Your kind and lovely remarks to all the participants of your shoots marks you as a true gentleman. Thank you from South Carolina!

Very helpful and informative. I appreciate the understated way you point out the basics like distance and angle of travel along with the elements that come only with experience like nothing the birds behavior, wing beats, flight pattern. Putting it in all-no makes it easier to see what you are talking about while giving the impression that I could do it. Well done. Thank you.

David, as a Brit living here in Virginia USA watching your videos gives me huge amounts of pleasure. It also reminds me of what I am missing through the autumn and winter months. As you are probably aware the majority of 'high' pheasant shooting over here are birds released from towers - not quite the same thing. Keep up the great work.

Dave Carrie: This is wonderfully done. I appreciate your commentary and stating "6-8feet lead", "10-12 feet lead", "12-15 feet lead" and describing the gun and flight path (Crossing, 40-45yards, wing set, wing beat etc.). I am now better prepared to shoot in the weeks ahead in Scotland and make good kill shots. Thank you again and keep up the good work.

Hello Dave, excellent content with this video explaining the thought process behind each bird shot at. Reading the distance, the line flown and whether the pheasants have set their wings or not and how this translates to bird speed and the actual lead required. I have watched this video numerous times and hope it translates to more confident kills in the coming season on both pheasants and partridges. I will keep you posted on the results! Regards from Steven in Lincoln, UK.

I put this comment on your film about Chargot with your Danish friends, but worth repeating Dave,.......The thing I like about the slow motion shots/kills is the way it shows just how to mount,come through and "lead" a bird. My father used to tell me when I was little (70+ years ago!!), to stare at the bird and in your peripheral vision let the muzzles "hose" the bird like a water hose aimed in front of a dog running across in front of you!! That shows up very clearly in some of the kills, especially incomers as at 4:30. It is, in my opinion the perfect shot on a high pheasant, killed in front at 40+ yards and shows how to mount behind the tail, pull through and the kick of the gun does the rest as you catch up with the head of the bird!!! Brilliant!!
@DaveCarrieShooting

Spot on Paul and something everyone should take on board staring at the bird = concentration - concentrating is a big factor smoothness is a must in driven shooting 👌👍

Excellent video which answers a lot of questions from fellow shooters who often ask "how much lead did you give that high bird". It is often much more than they think and I many times I replied " a farm gate and a bit more". Here we can actually see that very well , and it is much better to lead with the shot string than miss behind. Very good instructional video from the best county in England. The shot string can be as long as 5 yards at 40 yards (or more) depending of the distance to the target.

Well Dave a picture saves a thousand words but this was Awsome!. I notice the wad giving a good visual on the way up but soon losing velocity. As for your monster bird it looked like an Aspirin with wings just pure class. Bravo Dave, and thanks for this.....it truly is a lesson in how it should be done. I'm always hard pressed to put a figure in feet on high birds that I shoot....is it 3 feet or is it 10 feet? You know that it looks different for every shooter and is difficult to quantify. It seems if I focus hard on the head of the bird and trust my hands to move the gun through or away from the bird I connect solidly, although sometimes it takes a first barrel miss to provide the impetus to really see the line for a second barrel kill. Great video and I always look forward to your next one! Best regards.

Great film Dave, as with all shot gun shooting its the line, speed of gun and the amount of lead. I sometimes misread a target and miss in front and then end up over leading birds thinking I am missing behind. Seeing your barrel and bird in slow mo and with you saying how much lead you are giving each bird shows just what the amount of lead looks like. I try to just shoot instinctively but its important to know where you are going wrong when missing. This film certainly helps see the lead needed to kill the birds cleanly. Great camera work and as always Dave, great shooting from yourself. Many thanks.

Dave, a brilliant show of skill. 40 years ago I had a lesson from Rob Gallyon of Norwich - I couldn't connect with crossers on my left side. He said because i am short-ish and broad shouldered, give birds on the left less lead than on the right. On the left, your head is in front of the gun, vice versa on the right. It works! But I do hamper myself by using a S by S ?? !!

Very informative video Dave. Just finished a short hunt in South Dakota and I killed a couple of birds at 60 plus required a 12 to 14 foot lead . I used Federal wingshot 1and 3 eighths ounce at 1500 fps number 5 shot. They are wicked.

Very informative video, thank you. Very useful points regarding state of wings and what that means for bird speed. When you refer to amounts of lead in feet, I assume you mean the actual distance in front of the bird, correct? Have you considered a video using the one of the mounted camera gadgets at all? Thank you.
