Alex, there is a way to get rid of the white line in the front. I used to use this years ago in the days of film. You need a sheet of glass. You place it in front of the camera at a 45 degree angle to the camera. You then fire a large softbox at the sheet of glass. The reflective object is then filled with the light reflected on the glass but the camera shoots through it. You will have to deal with colour tint from the glass but it works well. I used to use this especially with wine bottles etc

Cool idea - thanks for sharing. Gotta try it! ;-)

Better still use a sheet of transparent plexiglas. Plexiglas is more transparent then a normal sheet of glass and has hardly any color tint.

I've really enjoyed watching the video till end, it's amazing. One simple question, is it possible to get rid of the reflection on budget?

Hi Alex, I have been searching for a while for a good tutorial on shooting products with highly reflective surfaces. We have a ton of products with the exact same challenge, products like a stainless steel boat road holders. The product is also highly polished and no matter how hard we tried we couldn't get it right. Our images made the surface look very matte. After watching this video start to finish several times so I can jot down notes we followed your advice and the difference was astonishing. That was enough for us to like and subscribe. I do have one question for you. How important is the diffused light behind the product? We set up a softbox behind the product and angled it upwards and also tried at 90 degrees (i.e. pointing straight at the product and so far our images look better without the rear light. The rear light appears to be drowning out the reflections created from the two softboxes set upon an angle either side of the product. I haven't tried pointing the rear light downwards (i.e. raise the light up the point it down onto the subject. Thank you so much for creating such an excellent tutorial. We will check out your courses on your website as well. Keep up the awesome content. Thanks, Chris

Hi Alex, hope you well. Is it possible to get the same effect using continuous light (soft boxes with bulbs) ? I have glossy/reflective shower head. Thanks
@photigy
@photigy 8 лет назад
Mark, yes, it can be any light. The only thing is matter is light modifiers. Not the light (type of light)

how is the background black and physically its not? im trying to figure it out
@photigy
@photigy 6 лет назад
Michael Cohen its because we use strobes. They have way more light power released during the time compared into a continuous light. And it a given exposure continues light is too weak to affect the picture. And we did not have any strobe pointed to a background, hence it cone up black/dark in a picture.
