Im a industrial pipefitter on international delegations who wants to make real estate videos locally to stay with my family & not have to go away. Have buyed bmpcc 6k + canon 10-18mm + ak4500. But buying gear was the easiest part... So all that information you share here in this 43 minute video really means something 2 me. Thank you very much for the genuinely shared knowledge.

Made me laugh for a moment when he forgot his memory card; I recently did an automotive shoot, got to the location a little early, started to set up, and realized I forgot to put my battery back in the camera! The batteries were still at the house on the charger. It took about 20 minutes to go get them and then back to the site. Very embarrassing, but I was able to finish the shoot and everything turned out just fine. Murphy's law strikes again!

Thanks for showing how most houses need cleaned before you begin, everyone should know how to inspect and how to clean/stylize the prop before shooting. Prop managers don’t know how to style and some cleaning services are not thorough. It is part of the gig.

Great video Will, very informative. Funny you use this Tokina lens, it's the same one I've used for years during RE photo shoots on my Nikon D7200 (works like a charm). Though very soon I will upgrade to a full-frame mirrorless, as the video quality on the D7200 is simply too poor. But I wondered about one thing: you didn't do any detail shots in the house with a longer lens, only wide-angle shots. I understand that you don't want to make the RE video too long, as people lose their interest. But your realtors don't ask for these detail shots?
@HugoWill
@HugoWill 3 года назад
sometimes when a house has lots of details you'll do them yourself, but sometimes realtors ask you for that. You can also always ask them about their preference.

Awesome video! It’s like watching myself work. You have a nicer camera 🎥 I’m using Nikon D750/D810 also on a crane gimbal. Next step for me Nikon Z6 II and Atomos. Can’t wait to have RAW and 4K. I only wish it could do 4K 60 without the crop. Would be nice to see your approach fixing the lens distortion in post and keeping everything nice and straight. I alway have to crop and resize in post to get everything nice and straight. Thx for sharing!
@Raevenswood
@Raevenswood 3 года назад
Z6ii is awesome you won't regret it. the crop thing is an issue but think with the 14-24 S lens you can still get 21mm on the wide end so it's usable. I'm digging the Z6ii enough that I'm considering a Z7ii also which has only a very small crop at 60p
@CPSWEDEN
@CPSWEDEN 3 года назад
@@Raevenswood thanks for the reply! Yeah the crop sucks for us real estaters. I have the Tamron 15-30 it it’s a little heavy and problematic with the gimbal. I have Crane 2 Labs, think it can handle it with some tweaking but not optimal. Shoot most of the stills with 24-70. Maybe the Z7 is the way to go or maybe switch brand. It seems that Nikon isn’t doing to well. Love my Nikons - worked flawlessly for years. The bro!

@scottbailey2610
@scottbailey2610 3 года назад
Thanks for going over all the details. One thing I would stress is that the owner and or realtor should take part in the preparation for any type of shoot. Your time as a professional is more valuable behind the camera and not as a caretaker. By the looks of this place there is quite a bit of deferred maintenance even though it’s very nice. The creative energy is stifled when you have to get dirty before you go to work. The filthy windows also destroy all your outside views and there’s no fix for that. The owners and realtors need to know that you’re not responsible for this stuff. Make sure they know it or they’ll take advantage of your generosity.
@HugoWill

Your gimbal footage looks incredibly smooth. I tried Ronin SC and the new RS2 with my Canon R5 and Samyang 14 mm 2.8 and there's no micro jitters, but there's a lot of up and down movement, even though I do ninja walk. Is it because my setup is not heavy enough?

Thank you very much for the detailed tutorial! I maxed out my credit card and bought a Canon EOS R5, but for some odd reason that hasn't made me a great videographer. I paired my R5 with Samyang 14mm 2.8 and have been trying to shoot some real-estate-type videos. Some of them look okay, but I struggle a lot with setting the correct exposure. The windows are completely blown out and the rest of the room looks dark. Tried C-log, but it looks even worse. My Sony A6400 with the kit lenses looks better than my R5. Now, I know that it's the operator that is the problem, but do you think R5 is a good camera for real estate in terms of dynamic range?

That’s correct

@@HugoWill Thanks a lot! I saw that in your first Real Estate video (from 2019) you said you used the 18-35mm most. But in this video, you used the Tokina mostly the whole time, is that right?

And do you shoot 11 mostly? or 16? or in between? :o

Hi Hugo, Nikon D850 any good for real estate video?

video autofocus is not really good on the D850 but if you are only using a wide lens it's pretty easy to manual focus and just go because of the wide depth of field. D850 is a fine camera but the video AF is a weak point. Also it's doesn't shoot 4k 60p so shooting slow motion would not be possible in 4k. in 1080p you could do slow motion.

Do you shot in 60fps or something and slowdown in post? or just shot on 24fps very slowly?

@17:55 It sounds like 60 fps to me.

Great. But probably same question all over again. How to approach to get first real estate video even for free.

No one is going to let you do a house for free. It means your work is not worth a piece of shit. I hate people asking me that question and they ask to come out shooting to see how I do it. No way. Im not teaching anyone. It takes years to learn and you have to be able to sell yourself. If you cant sell then no one will want you. I charge over 2k for a job like this. There are many that will do them for $200. They look like crap.
