That Cummins Commander is going to be sweet! A neighbor of mine had his frame stretched on his Mega Cab Cummins to put an 8ft bed on it. When they cut it, they cut it horseshoe shaped to lengthen the weld and spread out the stress over the splice. But, he has a weld at each end of the new section of frame, so twice the stressed areas. It's held up well hauling his Extendahoe on his gooseneck. But he's always conscious about what he does with it.

That's going to look cool. I like the stair step cut and weld, should help distribute the load and keep it from cracking under dynamic stresses.

I've never done this before but planning to b4 I die. My thoughts are to nick the frame rails with a hacksaw for reference points. Make a zig-zag pattern for the cut lines, kinda like the finger joints in glued up wood. Measure between nicks and subtract amount to be shortened. That's what the final distance should be between nicks. The zig-zag joint should be much stronger and give no straight-line stress points for the metal to tear. I may have over thought this a little, but that's me.

Interesting cuts on the chassis years ago I was taught and all truck (as in big HWY going trucks not your pickups or utes as call them) chassis stretch or shortening we would cut Z pattern on the chassis rails and no right angle corners as this creates a weak spot and then plate the chassis rail inside and out Then I noticed in later years people would just cut on 45 and weld it back together and plate the chassis Today they just cut straight thru and a lot of people dont even plate chassis any more I asked at a blokes shop that I know that do this all the time and he told me todays steel is that much better and the welders are much more even that on new trucks you dont need to plate the chassis and cutting straight thru is normal Have you thought about the ackerman angle will now be wrong with the wheel base shorter and may need to be changed maybe worth checking very simple to do once you know how gunna be a great looking jigger when done keep at it

I'd have to disagree that today's steel is better. The opposite is true. Old cars are crushed and shredded and everything gets melted down from plastic to glass to upholstery. That does affect the "new" metal that get's made from it.

I don't know if you can flash the ECU in a Ford like you can in a GM. Ford really doesn't like giving access to anything they do. This might make it hard to get it to pass an e-test. Look into it more. The Ford I converted was originally a Diesel so it passed with no issues. What trans are you using?

Shortening a frame usually isn't a problem, stretching a frame is where you can run into issues. Usually a chopped frame ends up being stronger than factory. If you look at a majority of OEM rust buckets on the road with frame damage you'll realize that for normal driving a chopped frame is plenty tough.

Most reliable diesel ever made in North America. Its used in Marine, industrial, automotive and agricultural applications. Its simple, efficient and easy to come by. It starts in cold weather and I have seen it propel a truck for almost 2 million km. It has a couple design flaws that are easily remedied. What else is there?

one thing I personally would really like to see on here is longer more in-depth videos. you do some pretty cool stuff, but, like this video, don't go into detail and show what you did. I'm not hating, just giving an idea.
