Shanties made me buy the game

Hi There are many shanty choirs in Germany and also there are shanty festivals. The style is different from the English way of singing sea shanties but the songs and words are the same. @@BrianOfHolcombeShantyman True, but the German Shanty Choirs are also singen a lot of sea songs, They name it Lieder von der Waterkant, in platt Deutsch. Many Choirs in The Netherlands are doing the same, so not original shanties what i don't like. Keep the Sea Shanty clean.

@@janverbiest261 The use of the word shanty has mutated Jan. It's been happening for a good number of years and now is used to refer almost to any song that mentions the sea. I do like what we call forebitters - folk songs and ballads about the sea but must admit real sea shanties do it for me. I am so pleased more people are aware of the songs and shanties about the sea.

Not much in the way of recorded evidence for that era as in times of war and battles Navy rules and regulations did not favour the use of shanties. There are folk ballads of a nautical flavour that cover the period. These are referred to as forebitters. As sailors pirates would have needed to harness the muscle power of the crew in one way or another. Fists, batons, swords, whips, guns or vocal chords...

From what I’m aware sea chanties where used for two reasons. One because singing makes it easier to work and singing while working has been shown to improve productivity and also the Raytheon allows a large crew to work I. Time with each other. However not sure how true this is

Work shanties are about harnessing muscle power to haul at and heave by co ordinating the pull as in a tug f war. forexample.. way AY (pull)) and up she rises in the song drunken sailor. Forebitters are story ballad style songs that mix social events, emotions, land and sea. Sang under the Forecastle in down time.
