Sitting down after hip replacement can be a little difficult for some because of pain and anxiety that you "might do something wrong". If you've had a "posterior" replacement, then you should avoid low seats that place your hip lower than your knee. For the "anterior" replacements you don't have to worry about this but it still may be painful sitting on a lower seat because of swelling in the hip.
Back up to the seat, touch it with both legs to know where it is, but then take a step forward with the repaired side, reach back with the opposite hand if possible and lower yourself into place.
When rising, scoot toward the front of the seat, stretch the sore leg out in front to limit the weight bearing force of standing, don't pull from the walker but push from the seat and use your good leg to power you forward and up.
