My HVAC tech just asked me how many floor registers there was, and that was it. I would much appreciate having a complete estimate and homework on paper, to include labor and cost of each part. *Keep going Tad!*

Wait a second, you ripped out a perfectly well working 2.5 ton unit for a new 2 ton unit for barely a half-ton (barely at 1100 sq ft)? Please tell me you are kidding me? Was it broken and old and needing replacement? Otherwise, what you did was unethical and not even logical. You could have easily changed the blower speed to 700-800 CFM and use the the existing 2.5 coil for the extra efficiency and increased Seer rating. I am not sure where you are located but a good dehumidifier could have pulled enough air off the system to slow it down too. You did not specify the details of many questions I have now. What design of 14" ducts were installed? Were they square galvanized or duct board 14x14 or 14x10"?, 14" flex ducting or 14" round galvanized duct? Because all three of those would have been fine at a slower blower speed without a change-out. And how many return ducts and how many supply registers and what kind and size were installed in the home? That is like replacing the engine because it is an extra quart of oil was used (drain off a quart and it is good to go). You could have changed the speed of the blower and made sure they had proper large filtration with a 4-5" filter for good flow but that could also have been a point to slow down the CFM's as long as the ESP was within limitations of the unit. But if you said it was a 20 year old unit running R22 and needed recharged or a new Evap coil then fine. But if you changed it out for 6000 Btu's, which is about nominally 4800 Btu's on a good day and probably a pile of latent and a fan running a little fast that could have easily been slowed down to make up for the lack of return air then you could have just made one to two changes then the problem would been solved and you would be the hero with a decent paycheck. You take the sensible and latent cooling and heating figures, do the math and you have exactly what the customer had before you ripped it out. Just removing the latent humidity would have dropped it down plenty especially by slowing down the blower to 700cfm with a wire change and some dip-switch settings. So I really would love to know how old the system was before I tell you that you are a thief and dishonest. Sizing is very important in every system, but ripping a system out over a half ton is ridiculous unless there are ulterior motives or it was flat out broken, old, too expensive to fix or needed a few pounds of R22. Give me something here because otherwise what you did was unethical and could have been retrofitted or adjusted on the blower or fan controls. If you said it was a 4-ton unit, sure I get it, they got ripped off and it needs to be fixed. But you do not specify why you swapped it out in your video and which type of ducting was in place. 14x10 rectangular ducting can easily take 800 CFM, so slowing it to 700 (350cfm per ton) is more than doable by changing a few jumpers or changing out a motor. Please just tell us the reason to change was not just because the unit was barely oversized for an 1100sq ft unit. That is insanity unless it was broken or burning up capacitors like crazy or a bad system board. I will get off your back, if any of those scenarios are in play. But I am not paying to watch the rest of the video. I am heading to bed because it is going to be a busy day, but I look forward to your response. I own an HVAC company and we specialize in Home performance. I have studied the ALL the manuals for years and years and nobody knows it all. I have been to two in-person ACCA trainings with Ed Janowiak and met him personally, not to mention the rest of the speakers during many months and years of training and not to mention reading hundreds of pages of each manual for properly designed systems. I don't think Hank Rutkowski would be very happy, if his books were used in this manner. Please tell me I am making a big deal out of nothing because the unit was dead or dying. I don't know what you fellas charge for an install of a 2-ton York package unit, so I hope they received a good deal. But here, that is big bucks for what sounds to be an unnecessary change-out. RU-vid's finest fella "Anti DIY HVAC" found another unnecessary change-out also this week. Seems like the commission fairy is coming early for Christmas.
@TaddyDigest
@TaddyDigest Год назад
I don't make commission It's not OK to have an oversized unit Please stop oversizing equipment if you are My customers are happy the electric bills are low and air flow is great 👍 Thanks for watching
@Balticblue93
@Balticblue93 Год назад
That is great about commissions but since you own the business, that isn't true either. Your customer did not call you out because their 2.5 ton unit was too big and wanted to spend a pile of money with you on a smaller unit. So, what was the original call request for? I fix problems for my clients and do not sell or charge them for unnecessary items. Every HVAC technician would just lower the blower speed and fix the issue, then look at alternatives. But that 2.5 ton even at full power wouldn't give you any issues in an 1100 sq ft unit that isn't brand new and probably has latent and sensible losses especially nominally from ducting and register losses. Did everyone notice that he avoided all my questions? You know darn well that you could have just turned down the system and not sold your client and unnecessary change-out. But since there was nothing wrong with the system, you just committed an unethical offense. My customers thank me for saving them money in their wallet, not taking advantage of them because they do not know the difference. That is like changing out the engine of a car because it has too much horsepower for the tires to get traction. Either turn down the power or get better tires or both!!. Like my analogies? I can do this all day. I am glad your customers are happy with their energy bills. Mine are happy because they didn't have to shell out 8-15k for a system they didn't need. Gaslighting and turning it around on me is just what dishonest people do. You blame me for calling you out. 2-3 inexpensive items fix the problem here. Turn down the blower, better filtration system, dehumidifier, and some knowledge fixes this problem. If you told me the unit was 18 years old and needed expensive repairs, I would be on your side all day and twice on Sunday. But you wouldn't answer a single question of mine. It is because you know I am right and am calling you out in front of thousands of your viewers. But here in Denver, IF THEY NEEDED A NEW UNIT, I would quote a 2-2.5 ton with a 2.5-ton coil. I do quotes for Good, Better and Best and explain the differences. Single stage, two stage or variable speed with options for humidification, upgraded thermostats, upgraded insulation, extra supply registers, increased return air, make-up air, ventilator, etc all optioned out by line item and not in the base quotes. So, they get to choose what they can afford and what is best for their home. We can agree to disagree because you have to save face in front of your followers. But don't worry, I will keep watching your videos and pointing out the major flaws now. I greatly dislike dishonest salespeople and business owners.

@@TaddyDigest I will first start by saying that is a pretty good price and thank you for being transparent (That honesty goes a long ways). That could be a VERY good price, depending on what unit below is installed. I will come back here and let everyone know that your pricing is decent, great or awesome!! Gas? / These are for my curiosity, because we do not sell very many package units in Colorado unless it is commercial, but I have done their training for the residential product line.
