You are right. But it's lesson all the way to 10:48 so that's still a big value tutorial video in my opinion. It's rare I get time in a video to show off and just skate, but Rio is so pretty it just calls for it.

Been stuck for months trying to stride backwards, balance all shot, panicking into immediate transition to forwards, no idea which shoulder to look over, on brink of quitting it. I have learnt something here,,,i was initially doing it wrong by putting the propelling leg infront while doing half lemon with one leg but am going to change that

Very helpful tutorial with the best editing yet. I skate to work every day on a paved trail, and going backwards adds a fun challenge and mixes up the muscle groups. Just started forcing myself to look over my weak side (right shoulder), and it was like starting from scratch!
That's amazing practice to do your weak side backwards. I really feel it in my shoulders and waist, as I have less flexibility in twist on the bad side, but it's a great workout for that reason.
Having a solid background in ice-skating, I have learnt a lot of these things by myself but this video tutorial goes SO MUCH DEEPER 😍 Can't wait to try out some of these techniques 😃
Hey! I have been doing this sport for four years, now i am 37, and at the begininng, some teenagers taught me the most basic tips, but the crossover trick was the first. Until the day i am still perfecting that move with my both legs, going fordward and going back too. Snake and cross are the best. In your video your explanations are quite sharp and correct, and step by step. Congratulations. I think you should put some spanish subtitles on your videos would be better for the viewers on this side of the Earth. I wish you kept uploading more videos like this, and greetings to you from Valparaiso, Chile.
You are a VERY good and concise instructor. I had been struggling with backwards skating for a while up until this point. Your tutorial is very straight forward and to the point and easy to understand. I think what helped me the most was doing little baby steps backwards with my knees pointed inwards and the rest is coming naturally (the more advanced steps). Thank you very much! try turning your shoulders and head first towards the backwards side, while still rolling forward. then slightly put the weight on the front wheels for a split second and turn your hip and feet to backwards. start trying this slowly and step by step, you will get better at it! there is no problem if you struggle with this for a while, lots of skaters can not skate backwards correctly.

I will definitely try this (again). Your video is pretty clear but you are undeniably a PRO, you make it look so easy but the reality is, the first time I tried to do those "pizza" moves not only I found very hard to barely move backwards, but when I actually started to move I felt extremely vulnerable and insecure. Guess I'm gonna try it once more.
This is an interesting progression, although several months late for me. I had to learn the hard way by trial and error (and by watching your earlier videos). You should mention in tutorials that the key to good backwards skating is decent hip mobility. Being able to do that backward bum wiggle which you dismissed is a good test. The proof is that I couldn't do it for life in the beginning... feet glued to ground.. .couldn't even comprehend how I'm supposed to be moving them... falling on my face - only the first stage of awkward back stepping worked. Very frustrating. Couldn't do the half lemon thing or backward criss-cross without losing balance. Now all of that seems very easy, but that's after months of practice combined with brutal yoga exercises to open the hips and get rid of anterior pelvic tilt. So I'd say, if you want to skate backwards, check your hips and posture. Try standing with the upper body straight and your legs crossed, one far behind. If you wobble, fall to the side and bend and twist, don't be impatient and fix your deficient flexibility first. The good news is that joint mobility and posture problems are fixable in short time and skating backwards will become part of the remedy.
Well done for making it through the first difficult weeks of skating backwards and you are right flexibility plays big role in skating, particularly in backwards skating. If I shared everything I know about backwards skating the video tutorials would deb hours long (and none would actually like that). Hope these easy progressions now help you polish your backwards....
