This looks like a fun exercise to try once I get my sketchbook rolling! Speaking of that, I wanted to say thank you, should you ever see this comment. I came across your videos a few days ago and something in the way you explain things reminded me that art is supposed to be fun. It's always been part of my life but somewhere along the way, I lost my own artistic voice and barely even noticed. Your videos showed me this and I am now on a mission to correct it! I became afraid to just let go, to experiment, TO PLAY! So... thank you for bringing that spark back to me, Jess. It means more than I could ever put into words.

Sometimes it is better with colored pencil for some people. Especially in sketchbooks. The graphite is quite known to smear heavily. Thankfully colored pencils are one of the options that won’t smear across your pages. Plus it helps people who are left handed like me to keep from messing my sketches up.

@@hiddentidesgaming As a fellow lefty, I totally agree, although it's not hard to work around the messiness of charcoal or graphite. She's actually done a recent video doing monochrome portrait studies in color pencil.

You make it look so easy. My people look horrible. Proportions are all off, and usually they have stunted growth! But every time I try to fix it they look worse. Ugh. It’s so intimidating that I stop and just go back to my faithful landscapes. I do remember a time when even perspective in landscapes seemed so hard, so I’m hoping it’ll change. I should devote a small sketchbook to nothing but people! Oh and just a funny side note, I clicked on this video after seeing the thumbnail. As I began watching I saw your hands and right away it clicked. Those pretty fingernails Oh that’s Jess Karp! 😂 that’s when I recognized your voice.

In my paintings I like putting people in them. I like your renderings the people in general. Moms,Dads and kids mostly but people in general like in society. City workers and business people. Really like your drawings of people. era

Seems like this might work pretty well with ink brush/markers as well if you start with light tones. I may have to try it to get me kickstarted back into doing some stuff.

Oh, thought this was new :o how’d I miss it. This is a big help! Weather drawing or painting, humans are hard for me.
