I went skiing for the first time a month ago. It was one of the most fun things I’ve ever did! If anyone gets the chance to go skiing, do it you won’t regret it 😁
I went for the first time today!! With a group of friends that have gone before but I was a total newbie. By the end of the day I was zoomin!! Absolutely amazing I will go back any chance I get
I did recently. I was OK. Hired boots n skis. They were apparently my size, but I couldn't turn properly. I couldn't get the leverage in my ankles. The more I tried, the more it hurt. Its probably the cheapish boots?!?!
@@StompItTutorials do you know why my ankles felt like they were being crushed. I am a waterskier, so felt at ease. My mates had their own stuff. They had no problem turning. Do you think it's the gear?
This is so cute.. And i think you are so talented teaching people, you just have the right feeling and empathy for that kind of stuff. I really think this is a special talent
Thanks for the RU-vid videos..I'm teaching my 60yr old mom and 2yr old how to ski!! All the videos you have made are helping and inspiring!!Great job!!
Late reply i know, but it's very much possible to learn how to ski in one day. My first time skiing the closest parallell i had was ice skating which i was terrible at. So i just learn the basic knowledge on how to brake and taught myself to ski by riding the easiest hill several times until i felt secure.
You are absolutely right, but the progression is still good .So if your student have never skated/surfed/snowboarded, may take longer to learn, but in the end he will have to follow the same steps
Also that hills really helps for begginer and learning, it’s not too steep, haha today I went skiing for the first time, it was awesome i fell a couple of time the trick is to really not be afraid and let yourself go, don’t force it just go with the flow, I saw kids like small kids do it, I’m a grown man and said if they can do it I can do it hahah tomorrow imma practice parallel turn and turning
This video is awesome! I'm skiing tomorrow after 4 years of no skiing, so I'm pretty much starting from the bottom.. I'm feeling a little scared/nervous and also very excited... practicing my postures at home while I watch this! Thank you!
I've never been skiing before but I'm going on a ski trip in March and I'm beyond excited! I've been binging your videos- they're so entertaining, informative, and the production is amazing! Please make more tutorials for beginners!
I know this is 4 years old, but you guys make it look like so much fun. Trying skiing for the first time this weekend, and I’m super excited, little afraid but excited mostly
All the other sports do help - so not a beginner But this tutor is amazing - wish ski schools had these instructors! As ski school is sooooo expensive but a must, especially if he is your tutor
do yourself a favor. Save your relationship and have your girlfriend buy a ski lesson instead. I am a fulltime ski instructor and I can't tell you how many relationships I have seen end on our beginner slopes.
What @OG GOODY said my man! Get her lessons while you go and get some laps in. I tried the teach her my self approach last year and the next day we were down at the ski school.
if a ski lesson can break a relationship, it doesn't worth saving. To teach you need to have a lot of patience and sacrifice your ski day, it worth paying besides ski instructors also need to eat.
At the end of the video, when the other videos to click popped up, they all covered Osmond when there was a completely empty side of the shot available. Reminded me of every time Mike Wazowski was covered up by a logo or UPC in Monsters Inc., lol.
Great video. I’m a beginner skier and ready to parallel, this video is inspiring. I will be watching it again and again until it’s time to hit the slopes.
Amazing video, great job Osman! This is such a useful video, as confirmed skiers it’s really important to know how to explain the very basics in order to really grow your understanding of the practice -and also because it always comes in handy tone a great teacher!- Thanks for the great content, can’t wait to see the rest of Osman’s ski evolution
I am really happy you fructified the chance of doing a big favour to someone. This stage of "frustrated not even-skier" puts everyone on the balance of even quit a sport that could have later on bring amazing satisfactions and benefits. Do you know any trick for learning how to slow down? I had for my first lesson an instructor that kept screaming at me " Do the slice of pizza ! Do the slice of pizza !" ( reffereing to that position when you do a sort of triangle with your skis and are also on the edge of the skis) and i kept saying " i am trying but i can't !" ( i was either on the edges, either doing the triangle but not both in the same time). And that was the whole "lesson" about. Like you said: not being able to explain how to do it, the "instructor" limited to just show me how she was doing it. Not very useful...
this is very helpful for me because i have ski today for School trip for 3 days im very worried to what to do so i watch some tutorials and what to do during leg pain and more some of like that for my safety i hope this works💗
Thank you for the wonderful presentation! I had much more challenging conditions, a smaller steeper bunny hill, lots of traffic, and a group lesson. I got the fundamentals but Where Osman had those concerns about forces and managing turns and weight made the circuit connect. I'll try a larger hill like that one and I think it'll be fun! Thanks again!
Like this guys approach - start them off with the "old time" methods that teach edge control, weight shifting, and skid turning, exactly the things beginners need to know to control things when they get on a slope that is a bit too much for them.
Your videos makes me miss teach skiing - been 5 years now - but this winter I'm taking my nephew to Chamonix for his first ski trip and your videos are such a nice resource to revisit all the basic techniques of teaching. I was a bit surprised though with how you taught plough turns - I always taught my pupils to move the center of weight to turn and not the "point you toes". I think this puts less strain on the knees - but I'd like to learn the ideas behind your teaching methods =) Best regards, - and again thx for creating these excellent resources :)!
good presentation of a beginner experience. I see some things here I can use in my professional ski instructing here at Taos Ski Valley, NM. Thank you for sharing.
I love your video's and your style of skiing. I'm 43 and getting back in to skiing after 20 years of snowboarding and skis have really changed. Suggestion: Can you please make a "how to ski twin tip (rocker/camber/rocker) skis?" Not as easy as some might think. I tried my first time last night and the skis kept over rotating in my turns, kinda squirrelly to be honest. I'm riding the Armada ARV 106's FYI. Any advice would be great. I'm just a free ride type that loves some side hits and I want to learn some flat land tricks too. My skis are fresh tuned and waxed too.
I find the title and image of this video discouraging. I am 62, overweight with minor balance issues and a left foot that turns outward by about 15-20 degrees. I've never even skated. I NEED to learn to ski. My reasons are personal, but assure you there is a very compelling (to me) need. My first lesson just showed me that skiing is an out of control, masochistic, activity. I couldn't even snowplough to a stop. Maybe I will be able to at my next lesson. Someone told me to try shorter, lighter skis next time. So you show a young , very fit, person as your beginner. Whoo hoo. I saw 4 year olds mastering their first day of skiing when I took my first lesson. Show me someone like me learning beginner skills in one day, and I'll be more impressed. Now I'm off to view the video for tips. I'm sure they will be great. Just letting you know, though, that the first impression of this video is not helping me to gain confidence.
I have been a ski instructor for 5 years, That Bowtie with snowplow is really smart! Really like your outfit, open wear jacket and pants right ? Thank you, Jens
So my girlfriend has had two lessons and is basically here at this level and making more parallel s turns. After two lessons I feel at some point she needs to learn how to slide and skid and do the basic hockey stop so she can stop if she needs to and also use skidding and sliding to control speed as she gets off the honey hill so she can better control her speed on steeper terrain. I am a self taught advanced intermediate and we are going to Colorado next month. Am I correct on her needing to learn this next? I feel she is timid and scared to take it to a bigger hill and feel if she could slide and skid she would feel more in control but they haven’t taught her that yet. You can’t always just make big s and c turns in my opinion. I want to help her get to the next level in her progression.
Thanks for this Video i was for 2 days at Åre and i try my first attempt with skiis... Almost to die but was amazing. Btw my problem in corners is i cant turn left so easy i feel my skii stock on snow or block me. I dont get what i make wrong(probably everything) But really i dont understand how can fix that problem. I gonna try in February and this time i will ask some teacher there if can make me some private lessons about my left corners problem. Thanks for your video, and for your time!
Yeah same with me.. we were ar Åre last week and first time to put skiboots on my feel and last for 4 hours learning to ski and stop and so on.. my partner is a great skier so he took time to teach me patienly.. we will be back in Åre on Feb 14-17.. you can join us☺️

@@aideng6306 Thanks for the info! I saw them in the shop today and they seem great in person. It's between them and the faction prodigy 2.0 that I'm deciding...
If you dimmed the music this would be a great video. I cant hear talk because i turned the music down then it busts my ears when they stop talking and the music turns back up.
how steep of a hill do i need? I have a family farm and would like to try skiing on it. I honestly cant find a minimum % grade required. Im fine with slow.
Great Video, I have had 2 skiing holidays, first two being sauzi d'oulx and serve chevalier. i'm going to the dolomites this January for my 3rd skiing holiday. Video on my channel to come. this was a nice recap of technique. I can stop and parallel turning right but not quite left. i'm going to perfect it this year. Better sound as well, where was the mic located?
At the out set forming an understanding of nature is an intimidating and daunting prospect. Just the rigors of being outside in the cold with nothing but squeaky cold powder beneath your feet is simultaneously pleasantly stimulating and frightening. These constant stimulations overwhelm many and they can never find their ground state so they wobble constantly within their cone of probability as they fall over again and again leaving a large gap between their level of excitement and their ability to function. using natural forces. children know the importance of rolling in the snow making snowmen, snowballs learning the temperature gradient moisture content, gauge pressure compaction ratios vital to establishing a stable ground state allowing you to manage all the geometries created from stacking force fields in different ranges of time dilation. these are the Big words needed to explain Counterbary= ground state. Bigger words come to mind, special Relativity, Local reference frame, dynamic Counterbary,, rectilinear motion, inertial frame of reference. Big words that I like thinking about in my brain it feels good to know what nature is and how to function in it. Newtonian mechanics and thermodynamic law govern all transitional state changing dynamics. excitation from the ground state results in function. The physics of motion applies to all mass. We are mass when in motion all comparisons are relative to observational disparity between different frames of reference. Of course you don't use such verbiage as lessons but for you own enjoyment as a coach knowing this is better than not knowing the context of learning.
hi i think im pretty exprienced at skiing and i want to start a bit of freestyling so i want to hit some jumps when i am confident that i can do the jump and land good on my feet, than ill try the jump but when im in the air i panic. Im wondering if you can make a video about 'how not to panic in the air while doing a jump'. I really like you videos as well and wanna say keep up the good work.
First of all, dont think too much just do it. Second, belive in yourself. Third, watch stomp it tutorials on how to jump and make sure you have a good pop. Fourth, keep your legs locked (but a little bit bent) and with some space inbetween. Make sure you look forwards and not to much down. Start with small jumps then bigger and bigger Sorry for writing a bible but hope this helped
I dont know how to do anything, but i wanna learn. No ice skating, no snowboarding , no skateboarding. none everything 😅. I never done anything but i wanna learn this
