Also something I learned is that if the bus is open you DO NOT need the skull key to reach skull caverns. You can access them during the spring three day calico event. This means that bc you never reached floor 120 all enemies will have HALF the hp compared to if you had the skull key. It also means that your starter clubs weapons will be fine to defeat baddies. I still agree that steel pickaxe is best :)
I managed to open the bus by the second day of desert fest by fishing and I had the Riverland farm so that started with a smoker. Another thing that helped me tone was getting the broken trident for that
Truth, I was able to get to the skull mines during the festival and didn’t see anything totally worth the few calico eggs I was able to get. And so I just used the ones I had to get a magic rock candy ¨̮
@@Bonfree24 if Demetrius is ever at one of the shops you can get deluxe speed grow and the guy above the traveling cart has strawberry seeds which are super profitable
@@Goteryup true, but for me Demetrius wasn’t one of the shop keepers. And also, due to when I’d purchase the strawberry seeds, they wouldn’t get more than 1 harvest in year one. And I already had a plan to get enough stocked up for year 2 (due to ones I already had planted). So, I felt it was going to be fine leaving it at that, and just making for a more fun skull cavern dive later on.
thx, im finally overcoming my fear bc i NEED autopetters. I have 5 barns and 4 coops, its so much work to have to pet all my animals. at the same time i refuse to ever go the joja route LOLLLL
This is fantastic! For a future video, maybe consider making (even a short) video on skull cavern or combat in multi-player. I love playing with friends, but we get absolutely destroyed by lag and the inability to pause when eating. Thanks again for this extensive video!
Im playing coop too and if your friend enters the inventory the game will pause when you eat. You just have to tell him to pause. Feeling the same with lag tho
This was one of the best videos I’ve watched on the caverns and maybe stardew valley in general. The amount of detail vs ‘get bombs’ etc is really awesome. Subscribed!
Bonus Tip: On the Springtime Desert Festival days, you can get food buffs that don't interfere with your normal food and drink buffs, check the wiki for combos that you want, but basically you can get another luck bonus on top of what you already had at the end there.
48:30 One other thing to consider specific to the Desert Festival! You can eat from the mysterious chef for long lasting special buffs that stack with normal food and drink buffs. The buffs always last 7 minutes, but your choices effect what buffs you get. A really good option is Rare Fruit with Uncomfortably Hot Sauce for +3 luck and +1 speed, but other options can give defense, attack, and mining levels. The only one you don't want is the shrimp, which give the dish a +3 fishing buff.
Though, as I understand it you can eat an unlimited amount of dishes at the festival, so if you need a fishing buff to do the fishing challenge and then a skull cavern-oriented buff, you can do that :)
Thats by far the best guide i've ever seen. Thank you very much for ur detailed guide, it shows everything from the start, now I can try my luck again at skull cavern :D
Thank you so much my man, such an amazing video I've been looking a guide like this for a long time most for the guides that I found with channels that have more then 100K subs are just general info they don't explain everything, but you made it so informative and so easy to understand, thank you again you deserve more 100K for reall :D
Great and very informative video as always. I'm so glad I discovered your channel. You definitely became one of my top 5 favorite stardew valley/gaming RU-vidrs. Also learned that people call the Television "Telly", lol. As someone whose native language isn't english, I've never heard that before, it made me chuckle :D
It's also good to take out the crabs when it's your first cavern runs because you can usually get a piece of iridium ore from them. Yes, it's disappointing that it's not an actual ore node, but at least they drop some iridium compared to the slimes that rarely drop iridium ore. If you go to skull caverns on the desert festival, make sure to get your free meal before going in as it does not count as a regular meal so you can stack the buffs you get from the chef with a magic rock candy. Select rare fruit as the base and then Uncomfortably Hot sauce. This meal will give you +3 luck and +1 move speed.
Throwing in a tip or two for beginners: I make a lot of cheese anyway, so I keep all my gold star cheese for food. With a barn of cows it stacks up quickly and it is a really good food source.
I personally don’t bother with the caverns until I have set up crystalariums with jade and I can consistently get down to floor 100. Just farm the regular mines for all the ores you need and kill slimes so you will get the charmer ring and never have to worry about those. It gets a lot easier once you unlock ginger island and you can farm coffee and pineapple en mass as well as being able to get ginger for ale that you can buff with qi spice. For combat I used an artful galaxy hammer with acrobat so I can just spam the special and use the click glitch to kill everything. I also threw three knockback buffs on it so I can pick and choose what I want to fight by just flinging mobs off the screen.
Great video brother! Something I learned was there was a book available after 1000 monster kills. Just when I think I know everything, there is always something new I was unaware of.
I would also recommend saving all your regular quartz bc you can get bombs with 5 of them. Even using 1 crystalarium will give you multiple of them per day.
I’ve never made life elixir for anything but completing the crafting completion requirement in three perfection saves. I just bring cheese or a good stack of either salmon berries or blackberries if I don’t have enough cheese yet.
Really helpful thanks. I onky started playing with 1.6 & not a fan of combat. But i have managed to get to floor 83 in skull cavern & have 2 autopetters so far. Definitely need to craft an iridrum ring & try out some of the other tips
Got lucky with prismatic shard while cracking geodes from regular mine, got the galaxy sword and still strugling reaching floor 30 in skull cavern. Those serpent is nightmare
On multiplayer I'm finding skull cavern ten times harder, because time never will pause, and monsters move differently. Knockback doesn't seem to work the same, and it's difficult to keep serpents from hovering on top of you, damaging you while you fight them. I'm normally comfortable hitting floor 130 in a day in skull cavern, but in multiplayer now I'm rarely hitting floor 40 anymore. I'm thinking that spamming staircases might be the only way to get down to iridium levels in multiplayer, early in the skull cavern days. Maybe after I get to Ginger Island and have more luck buffs I could get farther.
could largely be a lag issue. been playing with a friend and as the host I have no issues with mobs. Can't say much about how my friend does, especially since he's got crap internet. With my extremely barebones setup I could still hit level 40 or so quite easily. Once I have Ginger Island that'll probably jump to a hundred without too much stair spam.
@@sourcandy6469 I've been wanting a mod that pauses time while both people are in a state that would do so in singleplayer. I'll have a glance at the mod you recommended too.
@@AttacMage I've been using 'Pause Time in Multiplayer' for that and the mod worked quite well for me. I think there are also others that pause time when only one player is doing something that pauses time (which I think is fine if you're only playing as a pair but with more players can get quite cheaty)
Crystalariums can replicate jades, Jades can be traded for staircases, and staircases and be deconstructed into 99 stone. This makes farming stone incredible easy.
Seems like bombs are the bottleneck for how deep you can go realistically, so the first few runs need as many bombs as possible to make the effort worth it.
My preference is quartz trading for bombs, a couple of duplicators of quartz, with a few for ruby and jade keeps me rolling in bombs, but early game that's only feasible if you had quite a few saved from the regular mines 👍🏾
I think a good idea is to wait until you have done ginger Island and have really good gear before you do too much skull cavern stuff. Going in with a Dwarven sword, mermaid boots, and two decent combined rings makes it much much easier to do well.
How is it possible to get so much money to unlock the bus by Spring 7? At 0:30 Spring 6 I see 51,000g and at 1:21 Spring 7 I see 71,000g Total Earnings? While waiting for the new update on consoles, I have been practicing on my switch to get that much money before spring 15 (before the desert festival) and I find it impossible.
@@CapuchinMonkey1 In this video he obviously used animation cancelling, because he managed to make it to the bottom of the mines in one day. I can't do that on my switch :( In the 100 day video he bought 60 potatoes and 80 kale and barely unlocked the desert (had to sell almost everything). I would run out of energy watering all those crops and wouldn't have enough time to progress down the mines. He also got lucky fishing up the Neptunes glaive. Even if I did unlock the desert, I probably wouldn't survive in Skull cavern that early. Anyone else unlock the desert in spring year 1 for the festival? and what was it like?
I spent hours maxing all the hearts in pelican town and holding out on the desert till in got married. Only to find out i still gotta max out Sandys hearts 😅😅😅
forgive me for my ignorance but how do you get the zoomed out view so you can see more over the map? badly explained i know but someone must knw what i mean xD
@@maxbillyhalfh go into the settings on the pause menu and scroll down. There’s an option for zoom. Use left and right to zoom out and in respectively.
Making golden star cheese is much easier and give you energy too instead of making life elixir. But showing full Skull Cavern run with bare minimum requirement and all upgrade you can get in year 1 are very uplifting and motivating.
i don't think its possible unless you get some insane luck fishing up treasures worth loads of money, the video was a guide on skull caverns so to seed up my progress I spawned in money to save myself time
