I actually did enjoy that format, Ashley! I love that the fact that you didn’t just named 10 expensive smelling fragrances but rather discuss the notions behind the idea and therefore actually educated us a little. Though most people probably want a top 10 list which I’d be up to as well, I would also strongly encourage you to keep up those kind of educational videos. I really enjoy them. I mean I’m at a point where the next bottle of Parfum only adds marginal returns. But the deeper understanding of the topic itself really seems to have an endless benefit!
Interesting topic I’ve not seen discussed without focusing on price. You’re prospective and insights are educational without being boring or condesending. Thank you!

Nishane Sultan vetiver, Sisley Eau du Soir, Sarah Baker Rules of Attraction and Charade, original Dior Homme parfum, older formulations of N5 and Ysl Opium, F Kurkdijan Grand Soir, Mdci Chypre palatin, Xerjoff Alexandria II and III to name a few all smell classy and expensive. I always found certain brands more elegant than others, Roja fragrances smell expensive and elegant while Etat Libre d'Orange more playful and casual, I get the point, even if as you said wear what you want, which I do, there is a certain social consensus and common sense about what smells expensive, and changes as society evolves, interesting topic. A video of top elegant fragrances would be great! Thank you Ashley!
I really enjoy this video, Ashley, very educational. Something that smells very sexy can hardly come across as elegant/classy as the two are contradicting notions. However there are few exceptions when it comes to magical fragrance like for example Dior Homme Intense which is not only ultra sensual but also pretty refined. It would be great to hear from you breaking down this topic about sexy but classy fragrances, moreover with top 5 or 10 list included if possible, that would be magnificent to watch!
You make such great points, love this discussion. I’m wondering if our perception of what smells expensive is changing with time. I’ve been told that MFK BR 540 smells expensive. Since it’s a bit sweet and unusual smelling (compared to what was on the market before, not anymore these days maybe), it doesn’t really fit the traditional category of “expensive” scents. What do you think?
Also complexity plays a big part in it..... a fragrance that has an over-projection of just one synthetic note.... it will smell cheap and rightly so.... as the real cost of a modern perfume is the skill involved in making it, not the ingredients used. Over-using a single synthetic note is very easy and a lot of the start-up niche brands are excelling at it. But using complex synthetics, ones that are really challenging to use, this is the real art of expensive, modern perfumes. In my humble opinion

Only time I can remember thinking some fragrance was "cheap" is smeling some strange sinthetic orange note on someone that reminded me of something bad and artificial. Probably just because orange is so familiar and everyday note, and you can't do bad orange, right😉 Expensive on the other hand is classy, or it should be...

Great topic! Unfortunately I think most of it goes by associations - what you smell on other people that you think are "rich" or "poor" or just average. I like to think the person makes the fragrance...... If you are a good looking person, someone will like your cologne.....
Sometimes over Spraying a classy fragrance can come across cheap due to it getting cloying and heavy for others. It will inturn smell like a cheap fragrance that people can't stand.
Exactly! The best way is take care of yourself then use your fragrances with right amount of sprays (depends on specific fragrance), enough for yourself to smell it, and people catch the scent trail in the air, that's when magic happens, not when you poison the noses of everyone around.

I don't think of fragrances as expensive and cheap. I think of them as good or bad. There are expensive fragrances that smell terrible and others that smell awesome. And the same for cheap fragrances.
